  1. NZ 177-5published at 30 overs

Plenty of intent from Brydon Carse but eight runs off the over.

With 20 overs remaining England are going to have to take a few risks to bowl New Zealand out here.

  2. NZ 174-5published at 29.2 overs

Tremendous lines and lengths from Brydon Carse as he beats the defensive waggle of the left-handed Mitchell Santner's bat...albeit only to be punished for a no-ball having overstepped.

Santner meets the free hit on the full and smashes it square of the wicket for a one-bounce four.

  3. 6 runs

    NZ 169-5published at 29 overs

Daryl Mitchell slaps a drive through the covers off Luke Wood but the sweeper cuts it off.

He has more success off the final ball of the over when he lifts Wood for six with a well-executed ramp shot.

The sun has now gone down in Mount Maunganui as it begins to rise in the UK.

  4. NZ 160-5published at 28 overs

Harry Brook has his down-to-business head on as he talks plans with Brydon Carse.

The England seamer is straight as a die to Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner, who have to settle for a single apiece off the over.

Carse beats the outside edge of Santner's bat with a beauty to finish the over.

  5. NZ 158-5published at 27 overs

New Zealand require 66 runs from 138 balls.

    England need five wickets.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 26.4 overs

Bracewell run out (Overton) 51 (NZ 158-4)

A a bit of bonkers single from Michael Bracewell and he is run out.

The Kiwi batter nudges Sam Curran straight to Jamie Overton at mid-on and then decides to set off.

Bracewell is miles short of his ground despite a dive as Overton slides and directs a close-range throw into the stumps at the non-striker's end.

  7. 50 runs

Half-century for Bracewellpublished at 26.3 overs

A couple of balls later and Michael Bracewell rolls his wrists over the top of a short-pitched delivery from Sam Curran and the ball races to the boundary for four.

    He too has a half-century.

  8. 50 runs

Fifty for Mitchellpublished at 26.1 overs

A prod into the off side by Daryl Mitchell off the first ball of Sam Curran's fourth over, and a brisk single later he has a half-century.

  9. NZ 151-4published at 26 overs

Daryl Mitchell rubs salt in the wound by sweeping in a more traditional fashion against Adil Rashid and despite a good effort from Sam Curran on the boundary the Kiwi batter picks up another boundary.

Mitchell is on 49 off 60 balls.

  10. Mitchell survivespublished at 25.2 overs

UltraEdge shows Daryl Mitchell got a smidgen of glove on that reverse sweep so Adil Rashid's hopes of an lbw are foiled.

  11. England reviewpublished at 25.2 overs

Daryl Mitchell was dropped by Luke Wood off Adil Rashid reverse sweeping, but that does not deter the Kiwi batter from playing the shot.

He turns a full delivery from Rashid into a full toss and whips it for four.

Next ball Mitchell repeats the shot - but misses - and England think it's worth taking a look for lbw...having seen it turned down on field.

  12. NZ 142-4published at 25 overs

Coats are being zipped up at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

It's October in New Zealand so far from warm conditions to watch cricket.

Daryl Mitchell drives Sam Curran through the covers but cannot make clean contact and is a little frustrated with himself.

A Curran short ball is pulled by Mitchell but the boundary is prevented by some excellent work on the boundary.

  13. NZ 134-4published at 24 overs

Solid stuff from Adil Rashid. Four runs off the over. England will rue the dropped catch, though.

  14. dropped catch

Mitchell dropped on 33published at 23.2 overs

A dolly dropped by Luke Wood.

Daryl Mitchell reverse sweeps Adil Rashid to Wood at backward point but he shells a relatively straightforward catch.

How costly will that prove for England?

New Zealand are in complete control at the moment. Post powerplay, they have played only 20% false shots. England had played 30% false shots at this stage of the middle overs.

  16. NZ 130-4published at 23 overs

    Target 224

With not a huge amount to play with it's a tidy over from Sam Curran, with just three runs conceded from it.

The England left-arm seamer is hoping for batter error to bring him a wicket, though.

  17. NZ 127-4published at 22 overs

The imposing figure of Jamie Overton bustles in with purpose.

However, his fourth ball drifts ever so slightly down the leg side and the left-handed Michael Bracewell waspishly pulls it for a flat four.

Adil Rashid has looked to keep it wide outside off to left-handers. Around 80% of his deliveries to left-handers in this game have been outside or wide outside off stump.

  19. NZ 121-4published at 21 overs

Sam Curran is busy to the crease, but Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell pick the gaps with relative ease.

Curran's fourth legal delivery is a bouncer but Bracewell is able to play a controlled hook round the corner.

Barcewell has a run-a-ball 34. England dropped him on two, and it looks like he is determined to make them pay.

    Thanks, Matthew.

The sun is setting at the Bay Oval and things do indeed look quite serene for New Zealand.

Where can England find some inspiration from? Harry Brook throws the ball to Sam Curran for the first time today.
