Carse & Tongue will be dropped at Lord's. Rest Carse’s feet and Tongue doesn’t look good enough for this level. Archer and Potts to return?

    Graham, Essex

India should make the most of this Test and enjoy the batting. Going forward England will be less generous. Jofra Archer will be back and this gentle England attack will look a lot more fearsome.

    Martin in Derby

It's times like this where we really need something different, like express pace or mystery spin. Picking up a wicket before lunch looks extremely unlikely.

  2. Ind 361-5published at 97 overs

Shoaib Bashir finding a bit of drift into the breeze.

The left-handed Ravindra Jadeja dances down the pitch to the England off-spinner but does not connect cleanly, inside edges it and England prevent the single.

One in the cap for Bashir.

Over in county cricket, it's also been tough going for the bowlers, who are having to use the Kookaburra ball rather than the traditional Dukes ball.

59 centuries were scored in the County Championship in the last two round of matches. Our colleague Adam Lanigan has been investigating why the runs have been flowing and why it's a contentious issue in the Shires.

A good nut from Brydon Carse, who beats the outside edge of Shubman Gill's defensive prod. That's about as close as England have got this morning.

However, Gill picks up consectuive boundaries off the Durham seamer - the second of them a delicious square drive off one that is slightly overpitched.

Carse bellows 'catch' after the final ball of the over pops up off the edge of Gill's bat but there's nobody within range and the ball plops safe.

Shoaib Bashir replaces Chris Woakes as Ben Stokes shuffles his pack in search of a breakthrough.

The off-spinner brushes his back between deliveries as he bowls slightly into the breeze. Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja, as was largely the case yesterday, content to knock him into the gaps.

Plain sailing for the tourists so far this morning.

  6. Ind 349-5published at 94 overs

Brydon Carse, shirt untucked, bounds in with a bit of a grimace. He seemed to be carrying a bit of an injury yesterday and has had well-documented problems with his toes.

Neither Ravindra Jadeja nor Shubman Gill seem particularly troubled. It's going to take a good seed or a bit of a brain fade, perhaps, to dislodge them.

It's interesting that Ben Stokes has gone with himself today because I think Brydon Carse was second best after Chris Woakes yesterday.

There's been a few deliveries that have been short of the length today and have been steeper but other than that it's been a road.

How often has Ravindra Jadeja rode to his side's rescue against England?!

Shubman Gill has such a glorious cover drive and plays it with so much ease.

  10. Ind 348-5published at 92.2 overs

Shubman Gill is given a full length delivery from Chris Woakes and beautifully drives it through the covers for four. All balance, poise and elegance.

England aren't finding as much lateral movement with this second new ball compared to the first (1.4° v 1.1° combined swing and seam), but are bowling tighter, with 35% of deliveries since the change on a good line and length. The breakthrough hasn't come yet, but the foundations are there.

  12. Ind 343-5published at 92 overs

I faced the quickest bowler I've ever faced in Poland, by the way.

A chap called Vineet Sinha, who once won an X-Factor style search for India's next quickest bowler. He got Matt Prior out in a tour game but never quite made it to the top of the game. He was, however, lethal on an artificial pitch with a bit of concrete underneath.

India ticking along nicely here. Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja just picking off the bad ball as Ben Stokes gets through his fourth over of the day.

Gill is unbeaten on 125 and Jadeja is 61 not out.

Ben Stokes was asked by Vithushan Ehantharajah, our colleague at Cricinfo, before the Headingley Test whether he had considered taking the new ball now he is back to full fitness and has a less-experienced bowling attack.

He looked stunned to be even asked the question but has done so today, albeit on day two.

Stokes probably swings the ball more than any of England's bowlers in this match. There has not been much this morning.

  14. Ind 335-5published at 91 overs

Chris Woakes is profusely apologising to his team-mates after following through to a quick single and then turning to throw down the stumps at the non-striker's end.

He misses the sticks by a mile and Ben Stokes has to set off in hot pursuit to prevent the ball going to the boundary.

  15. Ind 331-5published at 90 overs

Great to hear from you, Zac. Can't beat a bit of interrailing. As it happens I've played a couple of games in Warsaw and Lodz.

In fact, if you're still in Poland next week I can point you in the direction of an interesting tournament.

Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Iceland and Poland - none of whom are members of the ICC - are battling it out for the 'Euro Cup' between 10-13 July in Warsaw.

Attempting to keep up with cricket while inter-railing through Europe is more difficult than expected, praying for early wickets!

India have had another decent partnership here and England will be wanting to get some wickets.

As Chris Woakes said yesterday, England will want to be batting as soon as possible.

  18. Ind 330-5published at 89 overs

A relatively calm and composed start by India so far. Nothing to suggest so far this pitch will be anything but good for batting today.

  19. 50 runs

Fifty for Jadejapublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 3 July

Ravindra Jadeja has a half-century off 80 balls with a gentle push off Chris Woakes.

He acknowledges reaching fifty with that exuberant sword waving of the bat before a more orthodox saluting of the gentle ripple of applause from the crowd.

England would absolutely take fewer than 400. If they did that they will have had a brilliant morning.

If it gets to 450, you'd understand that as there's still a few wickets to go and they'd still be in the game.
