  1. dropped catch

Stubbs dropped on 0published at 5 overs

    SA 23-2

    Oh, it's all happening!

Tristan Stubbs drives loosely at the last ball of the over, nicks it, but a diving Kusal Mendis puts it down.

He had to dive low to his right but top-level wicketkeepers should be taking those every day of the week.

    Frustration for Dasun Shanaka.

  2. Not outpublished at 4.3 overs

Clipping the thigh pad, so there's no wide but it's a wasted review.

Kusal Mendis seems very confident. They had to go for this.

  4. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 4.3 overs

    Now then!

The umpire has given it a wide but wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis is convinced that Tristan Stubbs has been caught down the leg side.

He persuades the skipper to take a look...

Interestingly, no Klaasen who was slated to come in at four. Tristan Stubbs is in instead.

The decision to use Dasun Shanaka has paid off. Markram was squared up by that delivery.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.2 overs

    Markram c Kamindu b Shanaka 12 (SA 23-2)

    A beauty!

Dasun Shanaka strikes with his second ball, getting one to swing across Aiden Markram and he gets a leading edge which flies to Kamindu Mendis, who takes a fabulous low catch at slip.

Here is how Thushara took the first wicket for Sri Lanka.

  9. SA 23-1published at 4 overs

    Target 78

Decent response from Thushara, just three from the rest of the over.

Absolutely terrific shot but it was in the slot.

That's an extraordinary shot. That flew off the bat.

  12. 6 runs

    SA 20-1published at 3.2 overs

OK, so Aiden Markram has had enough of being sensible.

He launches the first six of the innings over extra cover! Class.

  13. SA 14-1published at 3 overs

    Target 78

Markram is fine to continue, and rotates the strike well with Quinton de Kock to survive an accurate over from Angelo Mathews.

There haven't been any fireworks yet, it's been a sensible start.

Markram looks really and truly in discomfort on his haunches.

Mathews really banged that in and it just took off.

  16. ouch!

    SA 13-1published at 2.3 overs

Aiden Markram has been hit in the most uncomfortable place for a male batter.

He's down on his knees, taking a few deep breaths.

This is what we didn't see in the Sri Lanka innings, the willingness to play the more regular shot and just pick up a single.

They kept going for the big shots and paid the price early on.

  18. SA 13-1published at 2 overs

    Target 78

I like the look of Nuwan Thushara. The action is very unique, the slingshot-like arm firing the ball in, but he's also got lively pace and even though he knows that victory is unlikely, he's still steaming in.

Sri Lanka desperately needed one early.

It's about putting something, some uncertainty, into the South Africa minds.

Nice, solid, regulation catch to the slip fielder. Just the breakthrough Sri Lanka would have wanted.

If nothing else, just to raise their morale.
