And now it's an almost impossible task for the number 11. He's not meant to be in these positions!

  2. SL 71-9published at 18 overs

Nuwan Thushara is in at 11 for Sri Lanka and based on those few balls he faced from Kagiso Rabada, he is a true number 11.

He looks entirely ill at ease. He isn't supposed to be left with this much to do.

You'd say Sri Lanka need every run they can get but I kind of understand Maheesh Theekshana turning down a single from the last ball to keep strike.

That's just gone straight up in the air and Aiden Markram makes no mistake.

Sri Lanka have been so poor. They haven't thought about their approach at all. The field is so attacking that if you get it past them, it's at least two every time.

Just doing that would have at least got them 120 or 130 but all they've done is look for big shots the whole way through.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.2 overs

    Pathirana c Markram b Rabada 0 (SL 71-9)

Excellent slower ball and Kagiso Rabada has another.

Matheesha Pathirana was trying to whip the ball away and almost had time to play the shot again by the time the ball arrived.

He gets a leading edge and the ball balloons up to Aiden Markram to gobble up the chance at mid-on.

Ottniel Baartman can do absolutely nothing wrong!

Oh, a wide! That'll ruin his figures.

  7. SL 71-8published at 17 overs

    Fantastic from Ottneil Baartman.

He beats Maheesh Theekshana time and again in the over.

Just one run from it and that was a leg-side wide. Four runs conceded from three overs, he's slacking.

South Africa could chase this down in seven overs, and they'd have good incentive, as well. We're only a couple of games in but I already get to mention net run-rate!

  9. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 3 June

It feels a long time since Ottneil Baartman claimed the first World Cup wicket in New York at the start of this innings.

It has only got worse for Sri Lanka since then and now the seamer is back after conceding just three runs from his first two overs...

Matheesha Pathirana swings and misses at the last ball of the over and that is the end of a stunning spell from Anrich Nortje.

Four overs bowled and he finishes with figures of 4-7!

It's just brilliant from Nortje, mixing up his slower balls with the short stuff and encouraging Mathews to take it on.

    He's got figures of 4-7!

That's Mathews gone, and with him go Sri Lanka's hopes of posting anything close to a reasonable total.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.4 overs

    Mathews c Baartman b Nortje 16 (SL 70-8)

Another quick bouncer and a fourth wicket for Anrich Nortje.

The South Africa fast bowler has been superb and this was a brilliantly accurate bumper that got big on Angelo Mathews.

He top-edges the hook shot - it is the dismissal of choice for Sri Lanka batters today - and Ottneil Baartman takes the catch at fine leg.

  14. SL 68-7published at 15 overs

The over started with a six from Angelo Mathews that gave Sri Lanka a slimmer of hope.

It ends with a Kagiso Rabada bouncer that Maheesh Theekshana turns away from as it whistles past his nose.

Just missed a straight one, simple as that. He's cleared the back leg, trying to whack it through the covers but completely missed.

There aren't many demons in the pitch. It was tricky at the start, it nipped around, but it's not the pitch for a score like this.

Sri Lanka just haven't been good enough.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.4 overs

    Shanaka b Rabada 9 (SL 68-7)

    Stumps everywhere.

Something of a wild shot from Dasun Shanaka after he backed away to give himself room.

He misses, Kagiso Rabada hits and Sri Lanka are seven down.

We don't need that kind of drama/ controversy today, thanks, Alex!

I'm such a fan of Angelo Mathews, I love watching him bat. There's always entertainment, whether it's through his actual batting or if he's doing something like getting timed out!

    Stand and deliver!

  20. 6 runs

    SL 67-6published at 14.1 overs

    Six more!

Angelo Mathews drags a ball from Kagiso Rabada from wide outside off and deposits it over deep mid-wicket!

Great timing to comfortably clear the ropes.
