Just for balance, Pant has played 31 ODI's and averages 33 with only 1 hundred. Not sure he would get in our team let alone be best player.

Another dynamic start from Duckett, but we’ve been here before. Can he convert a promising start into a match-defining innings this time?

  4. Eng 35-0published at 5 overs

After Ben Duckett crashes one through the covers for his sixth boundary of the day, India finally move an extra fielder into the offside.

Just one run comes off the remaining four balls of the over.

Negativity is part and parcel of being an England fan, Tom.

If you could pick one India player to put in the England team, who would it be? And vice versa?

Without wanting to sound too negative but how many teams could India produce that would win this game? I'd wager 3. Likes of Pant and Jaiswal would be our best players, let alone get in the team!

  7. Eng 28-0published at 4 overs

    A positive start for England.

Ben Duckett has 22 (15) while Phil Salt has 6 (9).

Mohammed Shami is back for his third over.

  8. Eng 28-0published at 3.4 overs

Bowl short to Ben Duckett. Get pulled for four.

That could become a familiar sight for Harshit Rana.

  9. Eng 23-0published at 3.1 overs

Harshit Rana is bowling into the pitch with some venom and being rewarded. That's the second or third time he's cramped Phil Salt for room.

  10. Eng 23-0published at 3 overs

Ben Duckett is timing the ball nicely early in his innings and feeding off the relatively short boundaries in Cuttack.

Two fours off Mohammed Shami's second over.

Watching Harshit Rana bowl 90mph opening the bowling still makes me annoyed he was used as a sub and won that T20 for them. Ridiculous

Nice recovery from Harshit Rana after seeing his first two deliveries of the day go to the boundary.

  14. Eng 14-0published at 1.2 overs

Back-to-back fours for Ben Duckett as he says hello to Harshit Rana.

The first is pulled nicely for four. The second is a lucky inside edge past KL Rahul.

  15. Eng 6-0published at 1 over

First boundary of the day goes to Phil Salt at the end of an otherwise tidy Mohammed Shami over.

In other news, Paul Collingwood and Marcus Trescothick are among the sub fielders for England... could be fun.

  16. Eng 1-0published at 0.1 overs

Phil Salt is immediately off the mark, striking the ball into the leg side.

He wants two but Axar Patel is rapid in the field.

England openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett enjoyed an electric partnership in Nagpur (before that run out). Can they give England another bright start today?

Mohammed Shami has the ball in hand for India. Here we go!

England have lost the first ODI of a bilateral series in six of their last seven series (discounting a washout against Ireland), but have won the second ODI on three out of five occasions before today.

England have called up Somerset batter Tom Banton for Wednesday's third ODI in Ahmedabad because of Jacob Bethell's injury.

Bethell has sustained a left hamstring injury that will be assessed further when England arrive in Ahmedabad on Monday.

Banton, who made the last of his six ODI appearances for England in 2020, is the leading run-scorer in this year's International League T20 competition, hitting two centuries.

The 26-year-old will join up with England on Monday.
