That's a wrap for the first of today's games - take a read of Ffion Wynne's report of South Africa's easy victory from Dubai.

They sit in second in Group B after one game with a healthy net run-rate.

We'll be back for very shortly for India v New Zealand (15:00 BST) - we'll see you there.

So good from South Africa today!

  3. 'It wasn't easy out there'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 4 October

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt: "It wasn’t easy out there, that’s for sure. It’s definitely one of the hardest knocks I have had physically, so yeah, it was really tough. I had to squeeze quite a lot of spin in there and it was tough to manage with the heat.

"It think it was pretty excellent all-round from the team. The way that Marizanne started with those two early wickets and then the four wickets from Nonkululeko Mlaba, we were really pleased. It was great to get the win in the shed as well at the end."

  4. 'A very disappointing game'published at 14:14 British Summer Time 4 October

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews: "A very disappointing game, not the way we wanted to start. We have to pick up the pieces quickly, it's a long tournament, we've still got a shot with it but it's going to take some performances.

"I think they bowled really well, we weren't able to play with a high enough strike rate."

The depth of West Indies cricket is certainly a concern. A lot of young women are turning to other sports and away from cricket. The talent pool is something they have to think about and it's safe to say they were really not on it today.

  6. 'This is very special for me'published at 14:13 British Summer Time 4 October

Player of the match Nonkululeko Mlaba: "This is very special for me, I know I'm playing for all the people back in South Africa. I'm representing my family, I've got their name on the back of my shirt, it feels good."

On her bowling plan: "Stick to the stumps, don't leave the stumps - that really worked for me today."

On their unbeaten opening partnership: "I was sitting in the changing rooms as it was hot outside, I kept clapping, saying 'Yes, man!'"

This has been excellent from South Africa. What a year Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits are having. We didn't even get to see what Marizanne Kapp can do with the bat, as she was due to come in at number three. I think they will go far in this tournament, for sure.

Wolvaardt finishes on 59 from 55, Brits with 57 from 52 - not a bad way to start the tournament.

The West Indies used eight bowlers, with Zaida James pulling out after just one delivery.

Only captain Hayley Matthews completed her overs - although Karishma Ramharack was one ball short, both bowlers finished with figures of 0-22.

Tazmin Brits has quite the story, by the way. She's now blazing a trail in cricket, after winning world javelin gold as a junior. A devastating car crash ended her Olympic dream but she has fought back to become one of cricket's most destructive batters. Have a read of her amazing story here.

The West Indies were a little underpowered. You need at least 140, possibly a little bit more. But there has been a fair bit of variety in the West Indies bowlers, which has been good to see. It's not been all one trick pony.

And there it is - a comprehensive win for South Africa with 13 balls to spare.

Wolvaardt pulls Ramharack out to mid-wicket for two, bringing the scores level, then pushes into the covers for a single to complete the win.

Superb work from this pair, who were visibly breathing heavily in the evening heat of Dubai.

South Africa would really love to get this done in a ball or two.

    Nope, not in this one.

A tidy second over from Qiana Joseph, just the four singles from it.

Yes, Brits certainly is fine to continue!

She dances down the track to clout Matthews down the ground, almost hitting the first six of the innings with the ball dropping just short of the ropes.

A single to mid-wicket sees her retain the strike - can South Africa wrap this up in the next over?

South Africa are cruising to victory, there's no doubt about it and they will be really happy with this victory. They will be trying to get these last few runs in as fewer balls as possible now as net run-rate may be important.

Physio time again, as Matthews' delivery spits up off Brits' upper arm and into her grille as the batter attempted the reverse sweep.

    She'll be fine to continue.

  17. Fifty for Tazmin Britspublished at 15.1 overs

    SA 104-0

Both openers now pass fifty as Brits pushes Matthews' first ball to mid-wicket and runs.

There's a bit of slip as she approaches the non-strikers end and she crosses the crease feet-first.

No matter, that's the half-century off 45 balls.

  18. SA 103-0published at 15 overs

    16 needed from 30 balls

Quieter over, with South Africa taking three further singles from the back half.

Brits' single from the final ball takes her to 49.

This has been an exemplary performance from South Africa. The only downside, I would say, is that the rest of the South Africa batters won't have a chance to get out there and have a go on this wicket. They play England next so it would have been good for them.

  20. Fifty for Laura Wolvaardtpublished at 14.1 overs

    SA 100-0

    Fifty up, hundred up.

Wolvaardt reaches both landmarks from the next delivery, knocking Alleyne to square leg.

She reaches her half century from 45 deliveries.
