India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is out there in the middle now.

The tourists are in a spot of bother here - not something they have experienced during this tour so far.

That was definitely a hot yoga kind of lunge from Jemimah Rodrigues.

    It gets better for England!

Linsey Smith into the attack for England and Jemimah Rodrigues thinks she has width to play her when there simply isn't any.

Smith's delivery pitches and rattles straight into the middle and off stumps.

  4. Ind 19-1published at 2 overs

Shafali Varma brings Issy Wong's first over to a conclusion with another four.

The ball was up in the air for a while but lands safe and rolls away to the boundary.

Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues, the new batter in, also opened her account with a quick single during that over.

  5. Ind 12-1published at 1.2 overs

But Shafali Verma reminds England she is still in business here.

The India batter was in fine form to power India to a solid position during the early overs in Manchester earlier this week and gets off the mark by chipping Issy Wong to the boundary.

It goes one bounce over the rope.

Credit to the gameplan. By coming round the wicket, you could see Smriti Mandhana was trying to give herself room and got tucked up by the short ball.

A really smart wicket for England and Em Arlott.

    What a start for England!

Em Arlott gets the wicket of the dangerous Smriti Mandhana.

The India opener tries to make room with her foot and tries to clear the ring, but only manages to drill one straight into the hands of Linsey Smith.

  8. Ind 8-0published at 0.4 overs

Two dot balls to get things under way from Em Arlott.

But Smriti Mandhana then gets into the groove with back-to-back boundaries - first smoking one over mid-on and then pulling the next one to the fence.

England have lost the series but momentum is always important, especially ahead of an important ODI series.

And Smriti Mandhana defends the first delivery of this fifth and final T20 straight back to Arlott.

England all-rounder Alice Capsey, who does not feature today, has set herself the goal of becoming the "best batter in the world".

The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in England's white-ball sides since making her debut in July 2022, playing 26 ODIs and 45 T20s, registering four half-centuries in the shorter format.

However, she has posted single-figure scores eight times in 13 T20s over the past year.

"Over the last year to now, I haven't performed how I would have liked," said Capsey.

"I want to be the best batter in the world. Any player who's playing international cricket will want to strive to be the best."

Capsey also admitted England's fielding has "not been good enough over the last 12 months."

"Our fielding has been a big talking point. We haven't been good enough over the last 12 months and again this series. Everyone holds their hands up to that," said Capsey.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, speaking to BBC Test Match Special: "I think I've lost five tosses in a row but we want to create a team that doesn't depend on the toss.

"Really happy with the way we've played in the last four games and this is another important one for us.

"Two changes, Amanjot Kaur and Sneh Rana are rested. Kranti Goud makes her debut and Harleen Deol is back.

"It's always important for any team that is doing well to continue that momentum so we want to finish on a good note."

England captain Tammy Beaumont, speaking to BBC Test Match Special: "We are bowling first. We want the first use of the wicket. We aren't happy with the way we have performed. We have been put under pressure and challenged by a very good India side. There is a lot of effort going on behind and I am confident the performance will come."

On Danni Wyatt-Hodge playing her 300th international game: "She is evergreen. Just eight games to overtake [Charlotte Edwards]. What a great character she is. The way she has reinvented her from an amateur to professional era is amazing."

England are a team in transition and there is no need for panic, head coach Charlotte Edwards said after their T20 series defeat against India earlier this week.

"As long as we are looking to get better, I am not going to panic," Edwards told Sky Sports.

"We are going to be calm. We are a team on a journey. We are a team in transition. It's not going to happen overnight.

"We are not going to suddenly get this team performing how we want them to. But hopefully we have got a bit of time, certainly in T20 cricket.

"Hopefully you will see an improved team in ODI cricket, that's our immediate goal come October."

The autumn sees England head to India and Sri Lanka for the 50-over World Cup, putting the one-dayers that follow today's fifth T20 under a greater spotlight.

Nothing but pride to play for for England today, as they take on India one last time in this T20 series.

India took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series after comfortably winning the fourth game at Old Trafford by six wickets on Wednesday - it was their first women's T20 series triumph in England.

But before we can move on to the three one-day internationals between the sides, Edgbaston will be our setting for the fifth and final T20 today and the two captains have already been out in the middle for the toss.
