Very poor showing from England and Ben Stokes this morning. Field placings too defensive and dropped catches. Catches win matches. Needs to mix it up in the afternoon session. These two get set and it’s game over as India will take the game away from England. Stokes needs to be brave and put pressure on the Indian batsmen. The great captains know when to press and when to stick. Lot of thinking to do for Stokes this lunchtime!!!

  5. A costly drop?published at 13:32 British Summer Time 5 July

England had a couple of chances to remove Rishabh Pant before lunch.

A diving Chris Woakes, who had covered a lot of ground, could only get his fingertips to the ball with Pant on 31.

However, earlier in the innings, Zak Crawley dropped this routine chance with Pant on 10...

This bowling attack will get slaughtered down under. Surely Wood, Archer and Atkinson would come in for these seamers if fit? And not sure what Bashir is offering on these sorts of wickets. Could bring Bethell in and use him and Root in tandem?

However, since walking out in the 30th over, Rishabh Pant has been at his counter-attacking and entertaining best.

He's already got 41 (35), including five fours and two sixes. Shubman Gill has 24 (41).

Here's an interesting tale. Could Italy be headed to their first T20 World Cup?

Former Australia batter Joe Burns is captaining the Azzurri in a European qualifying tournament in the Netherlands which starts today.

The top two sides qualify for the event in India and Sri Lanka next year and Burns, who played 23 Tests for Australia, reckons the Italians "got the team" to make it.

BBC Sport has caught up with Burns to hear about Italy's chances and what is driving him to play for them at the age of 35.

Ben Stokes has just waited for each of his teammates, the last of them being Ben Duckett who was fielding in the deep, to give them a high five by the boundary before leaving the field.

It looked a clear attempt to keep spirits up. England looked tired at times there.

    Thanks Tim.

I think Rishabh Pant has made Tim's week after he complained yesterday that I was getting all of the good action.

Surely even the most die-hard England supporter watching at Edgbaston wouldn't mind another 30 minutes or so of Rishabh Pant after lunch?

India are in total control. England have done well, they have created half chances and now you've seen with Rishabh Pant and those two dropped chances but once he's in, he is so hard to get out.

Looking forward to the Ashes with a weak Aussie batting line-up and very strong bowling against England's very weak bowling line-up and decent batting. No score draw?
