If India bat all day today, they not only win this Test, but put a lot of mileage into England bowlers making them tired for the quick turnaround for the third match.

Karun Nair attempts to sway out of the way of a Brydon Carse bounce but gets clocked on the helmet. A brute of a delivery. A quick concussion check required.

  3. Ind 76-1published at 16 overs

A tight-ish third over of the morning from Chris Woakes.

England will need to create pressure, moments and theatre if they are to knock India over in the timeframe they want.

It's cooler today and with the floodlights on, obviously gloomy.

What do we reckon? England need to bowl India out for the cost of another 100 runs to have a chance?

    Or are you all believers?

Oh that's edged and it's gone for four. It would have gone to a third slip. One of those moments and you've got to be a little bit defensive but they do need wickets.

  6. Ind 75-1published at 15 overs

Gasps from the Edgbaston crowd after KL Rahul edges one wide of second slip and the ball races away for four.

If England had a third man in the cordon, they might have been in business.

We've seen some beautiful off drives to square drives and that was a cover drive. This to me is the most beautiful shot in cricket.

"A lovely shot" - Rahul hits Carse for four

KL Rahul drives stylishly through the covers for four off Brydon Carse's second delivery.

Next ball there's a stifled lbw appeal after nip backer from Carse.

Ben Stokes is briefly interested but soon backs down when he's told about an inside edge.

Let's keep chipping away at the wickets, that's what England need to do.

  10. Ind 67-1published at 14 overs

Watchful nudging and nurdling to start from KL Rahul and Karun Nair off Chris Woakes' first over of the day. No huge movement through the air yet despite the cloud cover.

This pitch still looks a belter.

Brydon Carse will bowl the second over for England.

KL Rahul has just checked his guard out in the middle.

Chris Woakes has the ball in hand and is at the top of his mark.

The Edgbaston crowd sound fairly revved up. They sense how important this morning session could be in the context of this Test match.

England will be hunting wickets this morning with a ball which is 13 overs old.

They managed to take one wicket before stumps last night when Yashasvi Jaiswal was trapped lbw by Josh Tongue - albeit after some shenanigans with a delayed DRS call.

It's grey, cloudy and overcast at Edgbaston this morning. We might get the odd cloud burst.

Jamie Smith was the 17-year-old tipped for international honours by England legend Alec Stewart.

He has packed more into the past 12 months than most have managed in the seven years since.

Next week's third Test at Lord's will mark the first anniversary of Smith's Test debut on the same ground.

After his brilliant unbeaten 184* is he now destined to become England's greatest wicketkeeper-batter?

His batting average certainly stacks up at the moment.

BBC Sport's Matthew Henry has taken a closer look...

India are on top. India lead by lead by 244 runs with nine wickets in hand.

But when will India declare? Will India leave themselves enough time?

England are behind. England are facing a record fourth-innings chase.

How will England approach today with ball and bat? This England side don't like draws but will they settle for one?

    Questions, questions.

Welcome to live coverage of day four of the second Test from Edgbaston.
