I would feel nervous leaving England 450 and plenty of time in the game. The timing is important and perhaps even the ploy to keep England out on the field as much as possible.

Seven players on the on-side now. You can see that Shubman Gill has been tested with his technique and his wrist work has been admirable this Test.

  3. Ind 270-4published at 58 overs

    India lead by 450 runs

Shubman Gill takes a single to move India's lead up to 450.

Joe Root and Harry Brook have popped up on screen trading cartwheels. One can assume neither player is expecting to be called upon to bowl any time soon.

How is a batsman repeatedly throwing their bat into the field any different to a bowler bowling beamers? Whether deliberate or not, it is dangerous play. A bowler would be warned and then taken off after two (or one if deliberate). Why shouldn’t a batsman be given out after a similar number of bat throws…?

I felt for Shoaib Bashir is getting a little bit of turn but it's not quick enough so even with turn you have time to negate it.

  6. Ind 269-4published at 57 overs

Shoaib Bashir continues to hold up an end. However, he hasn't looked like taking a wicket for a while.

I'm thinking it's time for Nasser to pass the baton over to Stokes for worst decision at the toss in England Cricket history. Do we have a ceremony?

    Jasper in Verwood

Regardless of whether England actually plan to ignore the draw and chase India’s total, they’ll say they will just for the fear factor. Still, can’t wait for everyone to ignore this and lose their collective minds over today’s post-match interviews anyway.

    Rob in London

Clever bowling this from England. Leaking runs quickly to lull India into a false sense of security so that we can chase down a declaration of 500 in four sessions.

Shubman Gill's fitness is very good when you consider the long innings he's played in this Test and now quickly dropping and running two.

I'm a little bit in love with that catch map. I spent a module at university putting Premier League football grounds on a map to look at away travel. Fascinating stuff. Maps, graphs, infographics... right up my street.

The scoreboard keeps ticking over. Three runs added.

Here's where the catches have been taken when Shoaib Bashir has picked up wickets in Test cricket in 2025. There's been an awful lot caught at cow corner/on the boundary.

A total of 16 dismissals for Bashir in 2025:

    • 10 caught by fielder
    • 3 bowled
    • 2 LBW
    • 1 stumped
    • 0 caught by wicketkeeper
  12. Ind 264-4published at 55 overs

    India lead by 444 runs

For a split second, Shoaib Bashir is interested in an lbw shout against Shubman Gill.

He wheels round to the umpire, mouth open, but quickly withdraws his cry.

India take two from the over to extend their lead to a satisfying 444 runs.

Daily Telegraph's Tim Wigmore: 500 runs in the series already for Shubman Gill - an incredible start to his career as captain. Don Bradman's all-time record for most runs in a series - 974 runs - is not completely impossible with three Tests to come.

  14. Ind 262-4published at 54 overs

It's a quiet maiden from Ben Stokes, so here are some highlights from Rishabh Pant's entertaining innings.

Shubman Gill is the first Indian to achieve 500 runs in the first two Tests of a series and the 13th player in history.

I think India have a score in mind and they want to get there quickly.

  17. Ind 262-4published at 53 overs

Shubman Gill drives the second ball after drinks for four.

He pings the fourth over mid-wicket for six. Hands on hips from England's fielders.

The India captain takes Shoaib Bashir's 11th over for 13 runs.

Ideal for a fun rule change. Player throws his bat (accidentally or on purpose) and a fielder catches it, then it's out! Should encourage players to keep hold of the willow!

Here's a reminder of the only wicket to fall in the first hour of the afternoon session.

Rishabh Pant was caught by Ben Duckett off Shoaib Bashir for 65 (58).

  20. drinks break

    Drinks - Ind 249-4published at 52 overs

    India lead by 429 runs

Harry Brook is practising his gymnastics in the outfield. I'm sure I've just seen Jacob Bethell too.

Ben Stokes' over costs three runs.

At drinks, India are 249-4 with Shubman Gill on 67 (85) and Ravindra Jadeja on four (17). Everyone runs off for a comfort break.
