    Dawid Malan hits his first ball for four, driving elegantly through the cover region.

    He has now done the same to Dillon Pennington with the fifth and sixth ball, two creamed cover drives to take him to 12 from six.

    His innings in the first dig saw him rattle to 64 from 45 balls with eight sixes and four fours and he talked at the end of day two about staying positive.

    Not sure whether a repeat would really suit here but strap yourselves in because this could be entertaining.

    Haseeb Hameed may well decide to keep on some hittable bowling.

    Worcestershire have begun their second innings under serious pressure from some more good Warwickshire swing bowling.

    Chris Woakes hits Gareth Roderick on the pads but the umpire shakes his head.

    The following ball, Roderick gets his head over nicely and punches a shot into the leg side for four.

    You get the feeling that Charlie Allison is seeing it well.

    Dan Worrall takes a bit of pace off and he hammers it straight down the ground for a magnificent maximum, the first of his innings.

    He is now 128 not out - exactly 100 more than his previous best first-class score - and Essex are 384 ahead.

    The ball gets up on Ricardo Vasconcelos and he feels he has to play at it, only to edge behind to James Bracey who makes a simple take.

    Terrific fast bowling from Akhter.

    And it brings immediate dividends (or nearly immediate with L P-W's third ball).

    Adam Lyth is trying to cut that away but too close to his body and he feathers it through to the keeper.

    Jacob Duffy's next ball is tentatively pushed at by Chris Rushworth who is caught at Rob Jones at second slip.

    A good end from Duffy and Worcestershire will return to the crease with a target of 327 to win.

    I think if at the start of the day you said the target would be 327, you'd have said they would struggle to get that.

    What a bizarre dismissal!

    Ethan Bamber looks to heave Jacob Duffy for six and ends up crashing the bails off with his bat.

    The ball ends up flying into the air and wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick takes a stunning diving catch, not knowing Bamber's stumps were already out of place and will not get the credit on the scorecard that he perhaps deserves.

    A decent cameo from Bamber who could have been out twice there and he walks for nine.

  9. Worcs v Warwicks 279-8 (lead by 325)

    Sam Hain continues to play the correct shots and has now ticked over to 86 not out, seemingly unbothered by the loss of his recent partner Chris Woakes.

    He has been superb for Warwickshire today and will hope he can reach his century without losing any other partners.

    Charlie Allison hits a low skimmer over mid-on for a two-bounce boundary. A single follows to take him to 118.

    Big, big wicket.

    Ben Cox is standing up to Scriven's medium pace and it is a good job he didn't get any glove on that. Or certainly didn't seem to on the replay.

    Keaton Jennings did though with the ball spitting horribly off a length and taking a flick of the glove past Cox.

    Peter Handscomb takes an excellent diving catch to his right to land a huge blow in the context of the match.

    It is a strange choice of shot from Luke Procter, who looks to sweep but gets it awfully wrong and it goes straight on to hit him plumb in front.

    Good bowling, however, from spinner Ollie Price in his first over.

    Noah Thain is caught in two minds and lets a short of a length ball from Jamie Overton hit him in the chest.

    In the best Brian Close tradition, he doesn't rub it.

  18. Sussex delighted by 'massive' win

    Sussex were the first team to win today - beating Hampshire by nine wickets at the Utilita Bowl.

    Here's what all-rounder Fynn Hudson-Prentice had to say about it.

    “It is a massive win for us especially coming off the back of some heavy defeats away from home. To come here and play the way we did was huge for us and a confidence booster.

    “There is a sense of responsibility [with Ollie Robinson and Daniel Hughes missing] that other players gain. Ollie has been fantastic for many years and is an international level bowler and Dan’s been so good since he’s come over and been phenomenal.

    “When you lose two players of that quality, who are settled in the team, there is an onus on others stepping up and performing."
