  1. dropped catch

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 410-6

    Jason RoyImage source, Rex Features

Charlie Allison edges Tom Lawes, but Jason Roy cannot hold on above his head at slip despite getting both hands to the ball.

Another frustrating moment in a day of frustrations for Surrey.

  2. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time

Northants 15-0 v Gloucs (lead by 105 runs)

Well, that's a statement of intent.

Ricardo Vasconcelos hooks Tom Price for six incredibly nonchalantly with a shot you're more likely to see later on this summer in the T20.

Inevitably, there is then a small break in play as the visitors aim to find where that ball actually ended up.

    Magnificent stuff.

  3. Postpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time

    Yorks 159 & 63-1 v Notts 228 & 393-8d

That should have been four and that is poor from Dillon Pennington.

Brett Hutton is punched to the long off boundary by James Wharton and Pennington sets off in chase.

He gets there as the ball reaches the rope but his body is over it as he scoops it back.

It would be surprising if he didn't realise that but he gets up and throws it back in as Yorkshire run three.

    Shady.

  4. 100 runs

for Charlie Allisonpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 406-6

No punching the air, no histrionics, 20-year-old Charlie Allison quietly removes his helmet and raises his bat to acknowledge the Essex balcony.

What a moment - he pushes Jamie Overton away for a single to reach a maiden century off 185 balls.

An impressively mature contribution and one which augurs well for the future. Essex lead by 344.

  5. 50 runs

250 up for Warwickspublished at 16:32 British Summer Time

Worcs v Warwicks 252-7 (lead by 298 runs)

Two boundaries from Chris Woakes, who moves on to 33 not out, moves Warwickshire past 250 as they approach the 300-run lead mark.

Anything too straight and Woakes will be all over like a rash.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time

    Denly lbw Reece (Derbys 587-5 dec v Kent 326 & 52-1)

Luis Reece comes in from round the wicket, the ball seems to keep slightly low and Joe Denly is gone.

Kent are 209 behind as Daniel bell-Drummond comes to the crease.

  7. Postpublished at 120.5 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 404-6

Charlie Allison deflects down to third man for four - it wasn't any kind of chance, he kept it on the ground all the way.

Allison pushes a single to mid-on and goes to 99 as Essex's total reaches 400 and Noah Thain clips the next one for four to long leg.

  8. Back underway at New Roadpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time

    Worcs v Warwicks 242-7 (lead by 288)

We are back underway at New Road where Warwickshire may also have an eye on a declaration within the next hour or so.

  9. Postpublished at 119 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 392-6

    Noah ThainImage source, Rex Features

The final session begins. Tom Lawes drops short and Noah Thain square cuts for four.

Final ball of the over, he drives to extra cover for a couple and brings up the 50 partnership with Charlie Allison.

    Good start for Essex.

  10. GLOUCESTERSHIRE HAVE DECLAREDpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time

    Northants 469 & 0-0 v Gloucestershire 379-8 dec

Well, I don't think anyone saw that one coming.

A brave decision from the visitors who remember were still 90 runs behind and had the fantastic Cam Green still at the crease and ending his innings by hitting the final ball for six.

Despite leaving runs behind, they have rather sportingly declared in order to force a result either way before the close of play tomorrow.

Perhaps results elsewhere, such as Glamorgan's emphatic 10-wicket victory over Middlesex, have forced their hand somewhat.

  11. Tea at Grace Roadpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time

    Leics 457 v Lancs 206 & 209-5 (trail by 42 runs)

For all that they have lost two wickets that has been a decent session for Lancashire who have shown some grit as they try to get past Leics' first innings total.

Much remains on the shoulders of Keaton Jennings who walks off with 108 (his first century of a troubled campaign) and George Balderson who is 6 not out.

Balderson has two first class hundreds and 10 half centuries so can stick around well enough but aside from Tom Hartley who is next in, Lancs are running out of batters.

  12. GLAMORGAN BEAT MIDDLESEX BY 10 WICKETSpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time
    Breaking

    Glamorgan 383 & 8-0 v Middlesex 155 & 235

It takes Glamorgan 14 balls to finish the job - Asa Tribe seeing them home with a single to mid-wicket.

Job done by the Welsh county, who make it three wins in a row ahead of the month-long break for the T20 Blast and are second in the Division Two table.

Spin bowler Matthew Kuhnemann took 6-53 in Middlesex's first innings, justifying his signing for this game.

Sam Robson (66) and Toby Roland-Jones (57) went for their shots in a couple of eye-catching cameos but Middlesex must now regroup following back-to-back defeats.

  13. Postpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time

    Glamorgan 383 & 0-0 v Middlesex 155 & 235

The umpires decided tea should be taken after Middlesex's second innings came to an end.

The players are back out there now with Glamorgan needing to score eight runs to win the game.

    This shouldn't take long.

  14. Tea at New Roadpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time

    Worcs 181 v Warwicks 227 & 241-7 (lead by 287)

Sam Hain successfully sees out the final over of the second session on day three as Warwickshire's lead approaches 300.

It's a second session that has belonged to the visitors, having put on 81 runs for the loss of just two wickets and barring a dropped catch from Rob Jones, the eighth-wicket partnership have managed Worcestershire's best efforts rather comfortably.

The sun begins to shine ant New Road and we are expected to have another 40 overs before the end of play today.

  15. Tea at Derbypublished at 16:02 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 587-5 dec v Kent 326 & 48-0

Kent reach tea with no further damage done after being asked to follow on by Derbyshire skipper Wayne Madsen.

Ben Compton made 156 as they added 116 to their overnight 210-3 before their first innings came to an end when Jake Ball had to retire because of an injury.

Compton is now out there again with Joe Denly, who has 32 not out, but they need another 213 to clear the deficit.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time

    Bell c Cox b van Beek 19 (Lancs 197-5, trail by 54)

George Bell tries to turn into the leg side off his hip, gets a top edge and skies a simple chance to Ben Cox.

The Leics keeper runs to short leg to take the catch and Lancs lose another.

Keaton Jennings is going strong at one end but he is running out of partners.

  17. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 388-6

Another good session for Essex, who add three to the total off Nathan Smith and go in to tea with a healthy lead of 326.

They have added 109 during the afternoon for the loss of Tom Westley, Matt Critchley and Michael Pepper.

Star of the show has been Charlie Allison, whose best first-class score prior to this game was 28, but is now 94 not out.

He and Noah Thain have added 45 for the seventh wicket and skipper Westley must now be contemplating the possibility of a final-session declaration.

  18. 'Warwickshire's quality making the difference'published at 16:00 British Summer Time

    Worcs 181 v Warks 227 & 241-7

    Jim Dale
    BBC Hereford and Worcester

Warwickshire didn't bowl well in that little session on the first day.

They made the necessary adjustments and I think the consistent quality that they have shown now is the difference at the moment.

  19. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time

    Northants 469 v Gloucs 379-8

The final ball of the second session is swatted away languidly by Cam Green for six as he moves on to 118 not out.

The Australian's third maximum of his innings - a fantastic effort from Green who has helped reduce Gloucestershire's deficit to 90 runs with two first innings wickets remaining.

Keaton Jennings reaches a century against Leicestershire

Keaton Jennings pulls a short tired-looking delivery from Logan van Beek for four to bring up his century in 163 balls with six fours.

The former England opener stood down from the captaincy of the red ball side after five rounds of this Championship.

Jennings, who was appointed skipper of the four day outfit in 2023, will continue to lead the side in the Blast and will no doubt be grateful for a change of pace and format after such a difficult start.

But he has in his hands here the chance to play 'a captain's innings' of some note for the club.

The opener got close to a century against Northants at Old Trafford with 96 back in April but this is a return to form after nine scores under 50.
