38% of boundaries are scored straight down the ground at Cardiff in the men's Hundred, only Headingley (42%) has a higher percentage among the eight grounds.

  2. Spirit 43-1published at 35 balls

England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith is the next batter for London Spirit.

He sees off the last ball of Josh Hull's five and now we're going to get a first look at spin as Chris Green prepares to bowl.

Really safe pair of hands with Paul Walter. For a moment it looked like a monster hit, like it was going into the River Taff but it just held up in the wind. Walter sets himself underneath and takes a very simple catch on the boundary edge.

    Williamson c Walter b Hull 14 (Spirit 43-1)

    Breakthrough for Welsh Fire.

Kane Williamson tries to go down the ground and the ball goes a long way up - but that is what costs him.

It holds up in the wind and just when you think it might still clear the fielder at long-on, Paul Walter comes into view and it's a straightforward catch for the big man.

    Williamson never really got going.

Played beautifully by Kane Williamson. That is why he's such a high quality player.

  6. 6 runs

    Spirit 39-0published at 30 balls

    Williamson 13, Warner 23

'Tall Paul' Walter is on to bowl the next five. Even in a bowling attack that features Josh Hull and Riley Meredith he is still the tallest in the attack.

He gets through a good first four but Kane Williamson is down the track to the fifth and dumps it back over his head for six!

David Payne is like a metronome. He doesn't miss length, that's his strength.

Perfect shot from David Warner. Very intelligent.

  9. Spirit 29-0published at 25 balls

Last five balls of the powerplay and David Warner makes the most of the field being up, hitting over mid-on and getting more than enough elevation to comfortably clear the fielder.

Not timed but with the man up, it didn't need to be. Four more.

David Payne raps him on the pad last ball, appeals for lbw but that was sliding down leg. Powerplay done.

Josh Hull is a good young prospect and will probably be well suited to this surface.

  11. Spirit 21-0published at 20 balls

Good set from big left-armer Josh Hull despite that earlier boundary.

Welsh Fire are keeping the two high-profile Spirit openers quiet so far.

  12. Spirit 18-0published at 16 balls

David Payne is back and sends down a slower ball to David Warner.

The Spirit opener waits for it but still doesn't quite time it.

There's enough bat on it to clear mid-on though and bobble away to the boundary.

A couple of edges have been found by London Spirit. Welsh Fire have bowled well.

  14. Spirit 14-0published at 15 balls

Edged... but just wide of slip again!

Riley Meredith so nearly gets rid of Kane WIlliamson in his first set of five.

David Warner tries to hit the ball out of Cardiff next up but misses and nearly swings himself off his feet.

  15. Spirit 11-0published at 10 balls

Some start from David Payne with both Kane Williamson and David Warner struggling to line him up and opting to try risky/ inventive shots to no avail.

Warner then throws a bat at a ball just outside off, gets a thick edge and it goes just wide of slip and away for four.

Good use of the feet next ball from the Australian before he slaps the ball through the covers for four more.

  16. Spirit 2-0published at 5 balls

David Payne continues to get the ball swinging early on and after just two singles from the first five, he's handed another five balls up top.

  17. Postpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 9 August

    Kieran Parmley

David Payne has a reputation as a wicket-taking new ball specialist however he's yet to really fire in Hundred games in Cardiff, with only three wickets in 18 sets inside the powerplay before today's game.

  18. Spirit 0-0published at 1 ball

Swing straightaway for David Payne and he shapes it back onto the front pad of Kane Williamson.

There's a big appeal but the umpire is unmoved. Too high and possibly a bit leg side as well.

    Otherwise a good shout...

  19. Postpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 9 August

Here come the teams and already we've got a change to the London Spirit batting order from the first game with Kane Williamson moving up to open with David Warner.

Keaton Jennings drops down to three.

Left-arm seamer David Payne will bowl the first five balls for Welsh Fire.
