Time for a quick hop over to the men's game then... and as summer approaches in Australia, so does the return of one of the leading T20 domestic cricket tournaments: The Big Bash League.

The 14th edition of the competition begins on Sunday, 15 December and will take place over a six-week period.

Eight teams form the Australian domestic competition and it will feature some of Australia's and the world's biggest names.

Here is all you need to know.

  2. Lightning keeps players offpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December

Well, we should be seeing the players emerge onto the outfield about now.

However, it is looking rather stormy in Potchefstroom and apparently there has been some lightning.

As a result of that, the players are being kept off and the start of England's chase has been delayed.

I'm reliably informed play can't start/ restart until at least 30 minutes after the last lightning strike but hopefully it is safe to resume once that time has elapsed.

In case you missed it a little earlier...

Australia continue to build their impressive form ahead of the Women's Ashes, sealing a 3-0 ODI clean sweep against India with an 83-run win in the third and final match of the series.

The hosts slipped to 78-4 but Annabel Sutherland's sparkling 110 from 95 balls helped them recover to 298-6, alongside half-centuries from Ash Gardner and Tahlia McGrath.

Gardner then took 5-30 as India were skittled for 215 in 45.1 overs, despite opener Smriti Mandhana's glorious 105.

India reached 189-3 and looked in control of the chase before Mandhana was dismissed by Gardner and sparked a collapse of three wickets for no runs, with Harleen Deol's 39 the only other contribution of more than 20.

England have never successfully chased this many runs against South Africa in ODI cricket. Their highest successful chase against SA was in Canterbury in 2018 where they chased 229-3, with Tammy Beaumont scoring 105 at the top of the order.

Further to this, England have been set 234 or more on 35 occasions in ODI cricket. They have chased this target down on just six occasions (17%).

Sophie Ecclestone came on to remove Laura Wolvaardt and, as has been the case so many times in recent years, was the pick of the England bowlers.

The left-arm spinner is the number one bowler in the world for a reason and even on a belting batting track, took 2-26 from her 10 overs.

There were also two wickets apiece for fellow spinners Alice Capsey and Charlie Dean after Lauren Bell had taken the first of the innings...

South Africa made a pretty strong start, largely thanks to a superb innings from captain Laura Wolvaardt.

The opener scored an elegant 61 from 68 balls, with nine boundaries. Which feels light given at one point she seemed to be driving every other ball sumptuously to the cover boundary...

England will be pleased to keep South Africa under 250, but this total will still take some getting.

    Thanks, Tom.

This game looks set up nicely for an exciting chase, I reckon.

England will need to produce their highest ODI chase against South Africa to win but the pitch in Potchefstroom looks a belter.

Plus, traditionally, it has been even better for batting under lights...

As the players take a well-deserved breather it is also time for me to take a break.

Luckily Sam Drury is here take you through the interval and the start to England's reply.

England will be pleased with this total, despite it being South Africa's highest score in an ODI against England. On this surface they should back themselves to chase this.

  11. SA 233-8published at 50 overs

Welcome runs for South Africa as Mieke de Ridder pulls into the on-side for four.

De Ridder then somehow forces a short ball into a similar area but without the power, so they can only run two.

Six off the final over means South Africa finish on 233-8.

England looked pretty pleased with themselves as they make their way off the field.

This has been brilliant bowling from Nat Sciver-Brunt, no two balls have been the same. England's death bowling has been so classy.

  13. SA 227-8published at 49 overs

A miserly final over from Nat Sciver-Brunt costing just one run means she ends with figures of 0-40.

England have suffocated this South Africa innings impressively well.

  14. SA 225-8published at 48 overs

Nonkululeko Mlaba looks absolutely desperate to smack every ball as hard as she can.

She finally makes contact with a pull into the leg-side, but Danni Wyatt-Hodge cuts it off on the bounce and South Africa can only run a single.

If these two get 10 runs from the last three overs they will be happy.

Mlaba has been trying to hit the ball far too hard and has lost her shape completely when she swings across the line.

  16. How's stat?!published at 15:21 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December

The average first-innings score in women's ODI at this venue is 181, with the highest score being 299. South Africa will be thinking 240 gives them a very good chance.

  17. SA 223-8published at 47 overs

Mieke de Ridder and Nonkululeko Mlaba are scrambling to try and get as many runs as they can, but cannot find the middle of the bat.

Just three singles from the over, though one of those was a nicely-played ramp shot by De Ridder down to deep third.

South Africa will have wanted that 260 to 280 target; this is an easier scoring ground than others.

They need to get Mlaba on strike here as a priority.

  19. SA 220-8published at 46 overs

Brilliant death bowling from Lauren Bell, who mixes up her pace and length to befuddle Mieke de Ridder, with just one coming off the over.

You would always rather your fielder go for the catch at this point in the game. Capsey slightly over-dived but a great effort.
