At Rawalpindi in 2022, England had batted 14 overs at drinks and they were 103-0.

Then England went on to make 506-4 in just 75 overs on that first day.

  2. Eng 86-1published at 13 overs

A bit of excitement midway through a probing over from Shamar Joseph.

Ollie Pope was hit on the thigh pad and set off looking for a leg bye. He was sent back by Ben Duckett and ends up sprawled on the ground having dived to make his ground.

Maiden over. The first of the day.

A record-breaking start to the day for England. Be honest, who saw that coming after Zak Crawley fell third ball?

In the latest achievement of a remarkable summer, 16-year-old Rocky Flintoff has made a century for England U19s in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Cheltenham.

He got there off 176 balls with eight fours and two sixes.

The son of England legend Andrew Flintoff made a hundred for Lancashire second XI earlier this season and subsequently signed professional terms at Old Trafford.

Archie Vaughan, son of Michael, is also in the England U19s side.

  7. drinks break

    Eng 86-1published at 12 overs

Jason Holder comes back well after that boundary to start the over.

Five dot balls follow and it's time for drinks.

A frankly ridiculous first hour of this second Test in Nottingham.

My girlfriend is sat watching the cricket for the first time. In the sixth over she asked me if they’re allowed to leave it. Welcome to Bazball.

Another crunching drive from Ben Duckett, another shot that should be cut off in the covers.

But it's not, so that's another boundary. The 12th of Duckett's innings so far.

I love Jimmy and completely agree with everyone who believes he should be playing in this match and for the entirety of this summer. However, the frustration and anger seems to be spilling over towards Woakes and Wood. Both of these two were our best bowlers last summer in the Ashes and Wood bowled well in India without too much reward. They should still be playing and so should Jimmy.

Shamar Joseph starts with three dot balls before offering just a hint of width.

That's all Ollie Pope needs to carve it away past gully for four.

McCullum out! Run rate now below double figures. Can’t watch this negative style of play. Bizarre morning of Test match cricket!

    Andy Zaltzman

Ben Duckett's 50 came from 32 balls. It is his 11th score of 50 or more in just his 22nd Test. He achieved three centuries amongst those scores.

It was the fastest fifty by an England opener, beating the 36 balls record shared by Duckett himself, Zak Crawley and Ben Stokes.

  14. Eng 76-1published at 10 overs

Ben Duckett's half-century comes in as the joint third-fastest Test half-century for England.

He gets three the ball after getting to that milestone and nails an on- drive to end the over but it's straight to the mid-on fielder.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Duckettpublished at 9.1 overs

    Eng 72-1

There's the half-century from Ben Duckett.

Brought up with a boundary - of course - to get to 50 from 32 balls. The fastest fifty by an England opener.

He's hit 11 fours, including four on the bounce to get him started.

  16. Eng 68-1published at 9 overs

How disappointing, England are now barely scoring at more than 7.5 an over...

Good stuff from Alzarri Joseph, who started well, lost his way for a couple of overs but has come back well.

He whistles a bouncer just past Ben Duckett's nose - and replays show it was extremely close to the outside edge as well.

Not that I ever had this feeling at this ground, but everyone tells me that if you bat here then the ball gets sucked towards the boundary.

It's normally supposed to happen after lunch, but today it happened from 11:01 - the moment Zak Crawley go out.

West Indies have got to stay calm here.

  18. Eng 66-1published at 8 overs

    Here come the boundaries again.

Ben Duckett won't get the fastest England half-century in Tests but he's run it close.

He dispatches a wide half-volley from Jason Holder and then ends the over with a gorgeous straight drive to move to 48 from 29 balls.

    Sir Alastair Cook
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

It almost felt like schoolboy cricket, didn't it? Just for that period of four or five overs, Ben Duckett was playing a totally different game.

I think Brathwaite did the right thing bringing Jason Holder on. He's just got to try and bowl a few through the keeper and hope for a mistake so that the West Indies can start again.

At the moment, it's fully back in England's favour.

It's testament to Jimmy Anderson's immense professionalism that he has taken on this new role. If I were in his position I would be furious; put out to pasture so England can "plan for the future", only to see Woakes (35) and Wood (34) selected. Wood hasn't bowled with a red ball since early March, and in his two games for Warwickshire, Woakes has figures of 71 overs, 1 wicket for 220 runs. Surely neither will go to Australia 25-26.
