What are the stats on England results when they win the toss and bowl? I'm sure they are more successful when they bat first and get runs on the board.

    Joe in Salford

In the past five years England have won 16 of 36 ODIs when batting first and 13 of 31 when bowling first so there's not a lot of difference.

This is not the best start from Jacob Bethell. He's drifting leg side, maybe there's a breeze.

  4. drinks break

    WI 84-1published at 15 overs

    King 41, Carty 37

That's not what Harry Brook would have wanted from his bowling change.

Jacob Bethell's first over goes for 12, including a wide and back-to-back boundaries for Brandon King. Only a sharp stop from Saqib Mahmood prevents King from making it three fours in a row.

West Indies will probably be the happier side at drinks.

What West Indies wanted in this game would be to get a start.

They didn't get that with Jewel Andrew and I was disappointed that he was elevated up the order because it gave him everything to lose.

John: This is a better test for England today. Wickets not coming easily in seam bowler friendly conditions. The 20 overs of spin will be crucial.

  7. WI 72-1published at 14 overs

Brandon King hasn't abandoned his tactic of dancing down to England's pacers. However, it's yet to really come off - he misses the ball by some distance on his latest attempt.

Saqib Mahmood bangs in his next delivery in response and King wears it on his body.

Here comes the man of the moment... Jacob Bethell.

Vis-a-vis the current West Indian batters, "The King and Carty" sounds like a fine country pub. Outside play area, home made pies and craft ales 🍺

    Ryan in Doncaster

  9. WI 71-1published at 13 overs

Keacy Carty scores West Indies' first boundary since the eighth over. Not sure the ball went where he was aiming for but it's four runs all the same.

Nine off the over for West Indies. The scoreboard is moving again. Remember those dropped catches?

I’m worried that this team under Brook in trying to be very aggressive with field settings will not utilise the ultimate weapon in 50 over cricket which is building pressure to force false shots.

You're not getting off the hook that easily, James.

It's a good return from Saqib Mahmood, conceding three singles and getting some sharp turn. He's changed ends. I wonder if he's brought his mountain of sawdust...

A mixed start from Carse here, his confidence appears to be fluctuating. Hoping he can find some consistency.

Saqib Mahmood returns to the attack, replacing Brydon Carse.

  14. WI 59-1published at 11 overs

You're right, AP. There were some excellent catches from both sides at Edgbaston. Here are some of the best in case you missed it.

Matthew Potts is getting a bit of zip from the ball. After leaking 11 runs off his first over, he's conceded just four off his next two.

AP: England are really going to suffer for those two dropped chances. Odd considering both teams pulled off multiple absolute screamers in the first ODI.

Brandon King is not messing around. When he has a chance to throw his hands at something he's doing it with full gusto.

  17. WI 56-1published at 10 overs

    King 30, Carty 21

    Nice work, Jack.

England have pulled it back at the end of the powerplay, with consecutive tight overs from Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse.

After 10 overs, Brandon King has 30 (29) and Keacy Carty has 21 (26).

Poor start from Carse, think he needs a confidence booster about now. (Trying something different).

    Jack from Bath

  19. WI 54-1published at 9 overs

Ooooh that was close from Matthew Potts! His final delivery of the over goes whistling past the bat and through to Jos Buttler.

Just a single added to West Indies' total.

Brydon Carse has produced an average swing of 1.70 degrees today, the most he has found in the first 10 overs in any ODI so far in his career. His average length of 5.53m is also the fullest he has ever bowled.
