Brandon King gives it a tidy smote, doesn't he?

Brandon King is worth watching. If he stays in he could do some damage.

  7. WI 25-1published at 6 overs

Brandon King makes the most of his early lifeline, whipping Brydon Carse for four through mid-wicket.

Two boundaries off the over - one streaky, one calculated.

Put down again. Ben Duckett got hands to it. It's a tougher chance this time and it whizzes to the boundary.

To call it a chance is possibly a little harsh.

  9. dropped catch

Dropped catch - King on 11published at 5.1 overs

Another catch goes down off Brydon Carse's bowling and this time it's Brandon King who is reprieved.

It's a touch harsh on Ben Duckett, who was leaping as high as he can at second slip, but the ball goes through his fingertips and races away to the boundary for four.

A better over from Saqib Mahmood with just a single and a leg-bye coming from it.

And there's now a molehill-sized mound of sawdust stationed at his end. Puts one in the mood for building sandcastles.

  11. WI 17-1published at 4.4 overs

Saqib Mahmood has asked for the yellow bucket of sawdust and will do some home repairs before resuming his over.

Sophia Gardens, bathed in sunshine, is looking lovely.

That was a beautiful delivery. I don't know how it missed the stumps.

That was extraordinary from Brydon Carse.

  13. WI 15-1published at 4 overs

Brydon Carse can't believe he hasn't picked up a second wicket and neither can I!

First, he has Keacy Carty dropped by Ben Duckett at second slip. Then, he finishes the over with a yorker to Brandon King and the ball whistles past his off-stump. That was very close.

It was a tricky catch but you expect Ben Duckett to take that in this day and age.

I think most second slips would expect to catch that.

    Early lifeline for Keacy Carty.

He nicks it and Ben Duckett, diving to his right at second slip, gets one big hand to the ball but puts it down.

  16. WI 14-1published at 3 overs

This battle between Brandon King and Saqib Mahmood is getting quite exciting.

He cover drives the penultimate delivery of the over serenely for four. He dances down to the next ball but Mahmood gets it to move and it goes through to the keeper.

Saqib Mahmood started the over uncharacteristically by bowling slightly wide before correcting his radar. Mahmood's consistency of line is a hallmark of his bowling – he has bowled 85% of his deliveries either in the channel or on the stumps line in the first Powerplay, that is the most for an English bowler in home ODIs since the start of 2020.

  18. WI 9-1published at 2.1 overs

An unorthodox piece of fielding on the rope from Will Jacks saves a run.

He slides, gathers, slides some more, digs his knee in, and somehow avoids touching the rope, ending up curled up on his side. He's certainly keeping busy in the field early on.
