The average powerplay score in Antigua is 45-2. Batting first, it's 44-1.

  2. WI 47-2published at 10.2 overs

Classy stuff from Shai Hope - he times an on drive off Saqib Mahmood to perfection, it is barely a push but it zips away for four to long on.

That is one hell of a shot from Hope. Last over of the powerplay and he looks to attack but a horizontal bat thwack off a short ball over extra cover takes some doing. Turner perhaps beginning to tire in his fifth over of the spell.

This is such a slow outfield. Almost Dharamsala slow. You need to go aerial.

  4. 6 runs

    WI 40-2published at 9.2 overs

Hope gets back on strike and lashes Turner high over cover point for the first six of the day. That might be the moment that gets the skipper going.

Interesting battle between Turner and Carty here. England have packed the point region with three catchers, and yet the opener is still targeting the zone. 35% of Carty's ODI runs come through point, so it's a key area - but he does average just 6 with the cut shot. England will fancy their chances if he keeps going.

  6. WI 33-2published at 9 overs

Saqib Mahmood replaces Jofra Archer for his first bowl in an ODI for 18 months. There's a decent swinging yorker that Keacy Carty has to dig out, before the Sint Maarten batter nudges him away off the last to pinch the strike ahead of the struggling Shai Hope.

Good, inventive captaincy from Livingstone nearly brings a third wicket as Bethell can’t hold on to a blistering drive from Carty. He’s placed a virtual three-man slip cordon from backward point to cover as the ball is again slightly stopping on this pitch.

  8. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 8 overs

    WI 29-2

Keacy Carty drives to point and a flying Jacob Bethell cannot hold onto a left-handed diving effort high above his head. I'm putting that down as a drop, but you could also say "runs saved". Great effort, either way.

Two balls later, Carty gets it right by drilling Turner past Bethell for a rare boundary.

Amidst the gloom of Thursday’s comprehensive trouncing, Archer and Turner’s excellent opening burst got rather overlooked. They’ve been every bit as good today but are getting their rewards this time.

  10. WI 23-2published at 7 overs

This is impressive stuff from Jofra Archer - maidens are a rarity it seems in ODIs but he's just sent one down. Shai Hope is on just three from 17 deliveries so far.

Another nicely-timed shot fails to reach the boundary. Par score may be 10-20 lower today than Thursday.

  12. WI 22-2published at 5.3 overs

Carty pushes past point off Turner, but once again the ball loses all momentum in the outfield. I don't think this going to be a 380 plays 360 match...

  13. WI 19-2published at 5 overs

Jofra Archer is upping the pace as he gets into his third over, making Shai Hope duck under a sharp bouncer. Seeing the Sussex man firing on all thrusters again is good to see with a lot of ODIs coming up.

Slow pitch and very slow outfield after the recent rains. Batters may have to do plenty of running today.

  15. WI 17-2published at 4 overs

West Indies skipper Shai Hope joins Keacy Carty, the first international cricketer from the island of Sint Maarten, to try to drag this one back. Carty flips the last ball of the over off his hip for four.

Sint Maarten is the island where jet planes come in to land ith their wheels just a few feet over tourists on a beach - you might have seen that on YouTube - and there's a bit about the island in the 2022 Wisden Almanack if you know where to dig.

Turner goes round the wicket and snaffles another!

It's short and Evin Lewis wafts at it, but he gloves it through to Phil Salt, who only has to step to his right to give the seamer his second of the day.

"I love it when a plan comes together..."

  17. WI 10-1published at 2.2 overs

Evin Lewis swivels and pulls Jofra Archer in front of square leg, but this outfield has soaked up a lot of rain of late and the ball holds up well short of the rope.

John Turner's been around the England squad for a couple of years but has suffered some bad luck with injuries, and his celebrations reflected that. His action has a touch of Matthew Potts about him, and he forces new batter Keacy Carty into a jab back on to his pads with some extra pace.

What a catch to give John Turner his first international wicket!

Brandon King drives loosely outside off stump, and Jordan Cox dives to his left at point to claim a magnificent grab.
