  1. 50 runs

50 up for Yorkshirepublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 12 April

    Glos v Yorks 54-3

Harry Brook forced to bide his time so far with Gloucestershire right on top at Bristol and Joe Root out for just two.

Brook is seven from 30 balls trying to get his side deeper into the session.

Shan Masood more fluent alongside him on 37 having steered his seventh boundary through cover.

  2. 'Wicket for debutant Tickner'published at 12:25 British Summer Time 12 April

    Glamorgan 43-1 v Derbyshire

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Derbyshire’s New Zealand debutant Blair Tickner made quite the start in Cardiff as he claimed the wicket of Glamorgan’s Billy Root with his fourth ball and caused immediate problems to in-form Sam Northeast.

The Kiwi took over in the ninth over and Root was beaten by Tickner’s first delivery, hit the second for four and nicked the fourth to Brooke Guest.

Derbyshire’s new captain David Lloyd- Glamorgan’s leader of last season - is making his red ball debut for his new county, as is fellow Welshman Aneurin Donald.

His team are bowling on a wicket which looks reasonably dry, given the soft outfield which delayed play by 30 minutes.

Glamorgan give a debut to once-capped England spinner Mason Crane, with seamer Craig Miles recalled to play for Warwickshire.

  3. 100 runs

Century stand for Bearspublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 103-0 v Durham

Alex Davies brings up the Warwickshire 100 in a fitting manner - with a boundary.

It's a flick off the legs to the short midwicket ropes, his 12th boundary of the morning.

The 100 has come up in the 19th over and it is a first opening century stand since the end of the 2022 season.

  4. 'A good morning for Warwickshire'published at 12:23 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 93-0 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's been a good morning for Warwickshire so far. They have rattled along to 94-0 in the first hour and 10 minutes of play, having been put in by Durham.

The boundary on the western side of the ground is a short one, but the ball has been going across the rope in the other direction as well.

Alex Davies has 55 runs. His half century was his first against Durham and came in 57 balls. It included 9x4s and a six into the stand on that short side of the ground. He's played aggressively at times and gone after the bad balls, while treating the good deliveries with respect. Rob Yates has 36 runs at the other end.

It's cool and overcast in Birmingham but it's meant to warm up this afternoon.

  5. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 74-1

Nice stuff from Tom Lammonby and Matt Renshaw at the Kia Oval.

Lammonby's cut shot off Dan Lawrence sees them bring up a 50-run stand for this second wicket.

Lammonby in particular has hit the ball rather sweetly this morning.

  6. Postpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 82-2 v Kent

As Glenn said, this has been a smart fightback from Essex.

Jordan Cox in particular looking in very good order as he stands as tall as a small man can to punch a full-ish ball from Wes Agar past mid-off.

Very sweet and shot of the morning so far.

  7. 'The ball has looked very unresponsive'published at 12:17 British Summer Time 12 April

    Northants v Middlesex 56-1

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

After an hour and eight minutes if the match (16 overs), Middlesex have already turned to spin as Josh de Caires comes in to replace Toby Roland-Jones.

Ryan Higgins carried a great deal of threat in his opening spell and drew an edge from Luke Procter, fine of a wide fourth slip, the very next ball after collecting Justin Broad.

Other than that the ball has looked very unresponsive on a good early season pitch for the batters.

  8. Lyon into the attackpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 47-2 v Lancashire

When you have a spinner with more than 500 Test wickets to his name, you throw him the ball.

So Nathan Lyon comes into the Lancashire attack.

Nick Gubbins gets a well-run three with a late cut and James Vince a leg bye as Hampshire take four off the Australia off-spinner's first over.

  9. 'Credit to new skipper'published at 12:14 British Summer Time 12 April

    Leicestershire v Sussex 65-3

    BBC Sussex

All change at Grace Road, where Leicestershire having been asked to bat raced to 59 without loss against some indifferent Sussex bowling.

Rishi Patel and Marcus Harris looked in complete control, until Harris followed a good delivery from Ari Karveleas to be caught behind.

However credit the new Sussex skipper John Simpson who changed the bowling round and was rewarded when Fynn Hudson-Prentice sent Louis Kimber’s off stump cartwheeling out of the ground and next ball bowled Leicestershire skipper Lewis Hill.

  10. Elsewhere in Division Twopublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 12 April

Another Root has just been dismissed, Glamorgan's Billy Root went shortly after his brother.

Glamorgan are 31-1 against Derbyshire - Blair Tickner with the wicket.

Leicestershire have just lost three quick wickets against Sussex to fall from 59-0 to 65-3 - Fynn Hudson-Prentice took two wickets in two balls there.

Northants are rebuilding nicely against Middlesex after losing Justin Broad cheaply. Emilio Gay and Luke Procter have taken the hosts to 55-1.

  11. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 63-1

Shot of the morning from Tom Lammonby!

Gus Atkinson offers a bit of width to the Somerset left-hander, but the execution is glorious as he caresses it through the covers for the most delicious of boundaries.

Lammonby moves to 30 as Atkinson struggles to find his rhythm.

  12. Vince in familiar modepublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 42-2 v Lancashire

The fall of both openers means that James Vince has come to the crease in that usual position.

The Hampshire skipper never seems to arrive at the crease at 150-2, does he?

He gets a bit of a helping hand when he grabs a single and there is a shy at the stumps at the opposite end, which misses and goes for four over throws.

  13. Postpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 12 April

    Glos v Yorks 41-3

After Joe Root fell lbw for just 2, Harry Brook is out there for Yorkshire with his side in trouble.

But as Brook gets off the mark with a silky straight drive for four off Zaman Akhter, he looks without a trouble in the world.

Captain Shan Masood on 27 at the other end.

  14. 50 runs

50 up for Nottspublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 50-2 v Worcs

Both openers have been removed and Notts are trying to rebuild with Ban Slater, on 21, and Joe Clarke, 4.

Slater has cut Adam Finch for four through backward point but Worcestershire have settled with the ball after a busy opening 45 minutes.

  15. 'Essex are rebuilding well'published at 12:05 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 61-2 v Kent

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

Essex are rebuilding well here on a pitch which looks on the slow side.

The early departures of Khushi and Westley will have given the Kent bowlers some encouragement but they have failed to keep it tight enough.

Frequent overpitching has allowed Elgar, and Cox in particular to free their arms and drive to the boundary.

  16. 50 runs

50 for Alex Daviespublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 81-0 v Durham

Alex Davies carves a Ben Raine delivery slightly backward of point but it's four more and that is his 50.

    A first as Warwickshire captain.

Coming off 57 balls, he has struck nine fours and a six, with everything coming off the middle of the bat.

  17. 50 up for Somersetpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 51-1

Tom Lammonby guides one through midwicket for a couple to bring up his team's 50.

After being put in to bat, that is decent stuff from the west country outfit.

But you never feel safe against Surrey with their strength in depth!

  18. wicket

WICKET Orr c Hurst b Bailey 10published at 11:58 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 26-2 v Lancashire

Ali Orr's maiden Hampshire innings is at an end.

The debutant had been becalmed and he's undone by a fine ball from Tom Bailey, coming round the wicket, which cuts through him and gets the edge.

A first wicket of the summer for Bailey, one of the perennials of the county circuit.

  19. 'A massive moment in the game'published at 11:56 British Summer Time 12 April

    Glos v Yorks 25-3

    Shah Faisal
    BBC Radio Bristol

    This is massive!

Zaman Akhter makes an instant impact as Joe Root was looking to play it on to the onside, got squared up and the finger went up pretty rapidly.

That is a massive moment in the game.

  20. Bazball Bearspublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 69-0 v Durham

Scott Boland is taken out of the attack after giving up 30 runs off his five overs.

He is replaced by Brydon Carse, but he can't stop the bleeding of runs.

Carse's opening over gives up 16 runs with three boundaries as Rob Yates cracks a very short and wide last ball to the fence.

The Bears are in Bazball mode!
