  1. 250 runs

250 up for Essexpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 253-3 v Kent

Matt Critchley going well on 45 from 66 balls and alongside Dean Elgar the pair have a stand of 84 for the fourth wicket and have brought up a first batting point.

Elgar on 116 with six overs to tea.

  2. wicket

WICKET Rew c Foakes b Atkinson 3published at 15:32 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 211-6

What a spell this is for Surrey!

Gus Atkinson beats James Rew with successive balls - moral victories for the bowler.

Then when he offers width outside the leftie's off-stump, Rew throws the bat at it but only edges it through to the wicketkeeper.

That is a big wicket for Surrey. They have now taken five wickets for 15 runs.

  3. 100 for Yorkshire's Masoodpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 12 April

    Division Two latest

It's been a captain's innings from Yorkshire number three Shan Masood at Gloucestershire. The Pakistan batter has just gone to his 26th first-class century.

Yorkshire have lost Jonny Tattersall, but they've recovered well from 90-5 to 221-6.

Elsewhere, Kiran Carlson is leading Glamorgan's effort against Derbyshire - he's on 72 in their 153-3.

Leicestershire have passed 200 against Sussex, but they're five wickets down.

Northants are still going strongly against Middlesex. Opener Emilio Gay is into the 90s with his side on 157-1.

  4. Wicket maidenpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 211-5

Cameron Steel completes a wicket maiden.

He's full of confidence after a career-best 5-25 v Lancashire six days ago.

  5. wicket

WICKET: Montgomery c Holder b Smith 11published at 15:27 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 190-4 v Worcs

A second wicket of the session for Worcestershire.

Matt Montgomery tries to force off the back foot a ball that's slightly too close to him and he nicks a healthy edge to slip.

Jason Holder, standing quite wide, reaches out with two hands past his right shoulder to take a solid catch.

  6. wicket

WICKET Goldsworthy c J Overton b Steel 10published at 15:26 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 211-5

Leg-spinner Cameron Steel is thrown the ball for the first time today and he strikes third ball!

Classic leg-spinner's delivery as he pitches around middle and off, it turns away and Lewis Goldsworthy edges it to slip.

Very good pouch from Jamie Overton.

From 196-1, Somerset are now in a bit of trouble at 211-5.

  7. 'Prest has played some very fine shots'published at 15:23 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 174-4 v Lancashire

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Tom Prest has got better as this innings has gone on, he's played some very fine shots.

  8. 150 runs

150 for Rob Yatespublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 283-0 v Durham

Too straight from Scott Boland and that is a gift for a player on 147 as Rob Yates sends another ball to the boundary.

He is now 151 not out from 166 balls.

We had a 335 not out and a 221 last week - is Yates going to become the third player to reach at least 200 this season?

Jim Dale: Hard to believe that these are the scores in the County Champ in mid April, after a rain drenched start to 2024… not sold on the ball change just yet…

Craig Nicolson: Slightly calamitous period for Somerset!

  10. 'Clarke has continued from where he left off'published at 15:19 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 186-3 v Worcs

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Joe Clarke has continued from where he left off last weekend, with another high-quality innings for Notts.

Since applying pressure to the spin of Josh Baker with those two huge sixes straight after lunch, he has had the upper hand over the Worcestershire attack.

The ball has softened and offers little so there’s every possibility that the former Pear will make it centuries in back-to-back matches.

  11. 'A fantastic effort from Elgar'published at 15:18 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 234-3 v Kent

A fantastic effort from Essex’s South African, Dean Elgar.

He showed plenty of what he could do at Nottinghamshire last week and has never looked in any trouble today.

Many will see him as the replacement for Sir Alastair Cook and on this evidence County bowling attacks will find it just as difficult to bowl to Elgar

  12. Bears bring up first batting point - without loss!published at 15:18 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 274-0 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham's decision to put their hosts in this morning does not look like a good one at the moment.

Alex Davies (119) and Rob Yates (138) have put on more than 250 runs, bringing up the first batting point in the process.

It's the best opening stand by Warwickshire against Durham. It beats the 206 from Nick Knight and Mark Wagh in a win at Chester-le-Street in 1997.

The Kookaburra ball appears to be offering very little to the bowlers though. However, on the basis of what I have seen so far, there's no reason to think Durham can't score a load of runs on this track too.

  13. wicket

WICKET Gubbins c Wells b Lyon 50published at 15:12 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 163-4 v Lancashire

You don't get 530 Test wickets without having a few things in your armoury!

Nathan Lyon has seen Nick Gubbins reach his 50, but he offers a bit of flight and it draws the edge from the batter.

It flies to slip where Luke Wells makes no mistake.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Nick Gubbinspublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 162-3 v Lancashire

Nick Gubbins cuts one away off Nathan Lyon and that is his 50. It has come off 112 balls with six fours.

The partnership between him and Tom Prest is currently worth 52.

  15. wicket

WICKET Banton c Foakes b Atkinson 1published at 15:05 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 199-4

    This is how Surrey roll!

They broke the 178-run partnership and they have taken three wickets for three runs.

Tom Banton is in trouble to Gus Atkinson and he gets an inside edge to nick it behind as Ben Foakes makes a tricky chance look straightforward.

  16. 250 runs

250-run standpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 261-0 v Durham

Still no sign of a first Division One wicket since 2016 for Durham.

And to rub salt into the wounds, Rob Yates brings up the 250-run partnership with a whipped six over deep backward square.

Brydon Carse is the unfortunate bowler.

Yates has now overtaken Alex Davies.

And there is another maximum. This is a lot squarer as Yates moves onto 133 with that shot.

    This is absolutely 100% Bazball!

  17. 100 for Dean Elgarpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 217-3 v Kent

It was a promising start for Dean Elgar at the beginning of his three-year deal last week with 80 and 26 to help his side to victory at Notts.

But he's gone on today to a 49th first-class hundred.

Nathan Gilchrist is too full and Elgar drives through cover-point for four to go to 99 before a clip off the pads for four more next ball brings him a 148-ball century.

The first of what Essex will hope will be many tons for the county.

  18. wicket

WICKET Lammonby lbw b Clark 100published at 14:56 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 198-3

His first ball after reaching his ton and Tom Lammonby is heading back to the dressing room.

Coming round the wicket to the left-hander, Jordan Clark has Lammonby playing around one and that is plumb.

Somerset have now lost both set batters in the space of 10 minutes.

With two wickets and the run-out, Clark is the man putting his hand up for Surrey.

  19. 100 runs

100 for Tom Lammonbypublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 198-2

He may have just lost Matt Renshaw after that needless run-out, but he tucks Jamie Overton into the legside for the single he needs.

That is century no.7 of his first-class career.

After needing 17 balls to get off the mark, he has got to his hundred off 132 balls and it is warmly acknowledged by a decent-sized Oval crowd.

  20. wicket

WICKET: Slater c Roderick b Finch 70published at 14:52 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 167-3 v Worcs

A breakthrough for Worcestershire and Adam Finch has provided it.

But no credit for the bowler really as Ben Slater nicks a full ball down the leg side to the keeper.

A very unfortunate end to an attractive innings.

The visitors won't care how it comes becomes they were really struggling after two early blows this morning.
