  1. Tea at the Utilita Bowlpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 216-4 v Lancashire

    Another good session in Southampton.

50s for Nick Gubbins, James Vince and Tom Prest, but two wickets for Nathan Lyon have kept Hampshire in check as Lancashire have plugged away.

  2. 'A good afternoon for Nottinghamshire'published at 16:00 British Summer Time 12 April

    Tea: Notts 223-4 v Worcs

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

A good afternoon for Nottinghamshire, they look as if they're in the mood to put a decent score on the board.

But we thought that about the exact same time last week.

  3. wicket

WICKET Yates c Lees b Ackermann 191published at 15:58 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 343-1 v Durham

No record opening stand for Warwickshire. No double ton for Rob Yates.

He tries to go big again off Colin Ackermann, but gets it too high and the catch is taken by Alex Lees at long-off.

Relief for Durham, but a wonderful innings from Yates.

25 fours and five sixes in his 206-ball knock - a supreme effort.

  4. Postpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 343-0 v Durham

Colin Ackermann is bowling his part-time off-breaks. I'm not sure there are too many Durham bowlers queuing up to have a go in these circumstances.

His first ball of the latest over is dispatched straight on for a maximum!

Ackermann is then full and that is driven for four more by Rob Yates.

Ball number three... six more to Yates! He is up to 191.

  5. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 223-4 v Worcs

Joe Clarke has led Notts so far today and he goes to tea 98 not out.

After the loss of both openers cheaply, Clarke shared 133 with Ben Slater before he was strangled down the leg side for 70.

The home side in a decent spot after winning the toss but Worcestershire, who also removed Matt Montgomery in the session, will still feel right in the day.

  6. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 272-4 v Kent

The dismissal of Dean Elgar for 120 will just make the sandwiches taste a little better for Kent.

But it's still very much Essex's day so far having won the toss, going along at over four-an-over.

Matt Critchley goes to the break 54 not out.

  7. Bears record under threatpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 322-0 v Durham

Warwickshire's record opening stand - the 377 put on by Norman Horner and Billy Ibadulla against Surrey in 1960 - is in serious danger of going here.

  8. 50 for Matt Critchleypublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 265-4 v Kent

Jack Leaning is on for a few overs of off spin.

And it's quite tight until he goes too full and Matt Critchley drives him smartly through cover to raise fifty in 80 balls.

  9. 'Very good cricket from Surrey'published at 15:48 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 216-8

    Dan Whiting
    BBC Radio London

This is a combination of very good cricket from Surrey, putting them under pressure and poor cricket from Somerset.

I don't think it's all one way or the other.

  10. 50 runs

50 for Tom Prestpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 205-4 v Lancashire

A fine knock from the 21-year-old and a third fifty of the Hampshire innings.

He has played Nathan Lyon well and he reaches 50 with a good stroke through the offside off the leg-spin of Luke Wells.

Can he carry on where Nick Gubbins and James Vince failed?

  11. wicket

WICKET C Overton b Steel 0published at 15:46 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 216-8

Sorry Anthony, it's not going to be this partnership!

Cameron Steel effectively yorks Craig Overton with a fullish ball which pitches, spins and knocks the stumps over.

    Great stuff from the leggie.

Remember, Somerset were 196-1! They have lost seven wickets for 20 runs.

  12. 'Somerset need a partnership of good substance'published at 15:45 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 216-7

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset need a partnership of good substance having thrown away a really good position.

  13. 'A very soft and tame way to go'published at 15:44 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 258-4 v Kent

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

Well that was a very soft and tame way to go for Dean Elgar.

He has been exemplary in everything he has done and then pops a simple catch to Muyeye at short midwicket.

Even though he has made 120 Elgar almost needs a crane to get him off the pitch such is his disappointment.

  14. 300 runs

300 up for Warwickshirepublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 300-0 v Durham

Rob Yates dances down the track and slaps Callum Parkinson through the covers for four.

That is the 300 up for Warwickshire, all without losing a wicket. A second batting point.

Yates has 161 and Bears skipper Alex Davies 130.

This is a controlled assault from the home bowlers on some hapless and helpless bowling.

  15. Thomson's star turn for Derbyshirepublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 12 April

    Glamorgan 164-4 v Derbyshire

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Sophia Gardens

An off-spinner turning the ball miles on the first day of a County Championship match in April?

It sounds improbable but that’s been the case for Derbyshire’s Alex Thomson, who’s caught the eye against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens today.

Thomson, who was Derbyshire’s leading wicket taker in this competition last season, has taken two scalps so far in the form of Zain ul-Hassan and Kiran Carlson.

Carlson, trapped lbw, was a particularly notable victim as he looked to be in fine form before succumbing to Thomson for 74.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Elgar c Muyeye b Parkinson 120published at 15:41 British Summer Time 12 April

    Essex 258-4 v Kent

Dean Elgar's fine innings is over and Kent have a very important wicket on the stroke of tea.

He tamely taps up a ball from Matt Parkinson to midwicket. Just got there a bit too soon.

A disappointing end to his first hundred for Essex.

  17. Hat-trick ballpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 211-7

Gus Atkinson with his hat-trick ball. Somerset skipper Lewis Gregory to face...

Short ball and Gregory ducks underneath it.

  18. 'Durham's bowling could be better'published at 15:38 British Summer Time 12 April

    Warwickshire 293-0 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

There's absolutely nothing doing with this ball from a Durham point of view.

Their bowling could have been better in spells but it's certainly not been dreadful.

  19. wicket

WICKET Aldridge c J Overton b Atkinson 0published at 15:35 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey v Somerset 211-7

Gus Atkinson is on a hat-trick!!

Short, fiery and into the ribs and Kasey Aldridge gets in a horrible tangle. Not what you want first ball.

It loops up and Jamie Overton moves round from slip to take an easy catch.

End of the over - Atkinson will have to wait for the hat-trick ball!

  20. 'Lyon looks class'published at 15:35 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hampshire 178-4 v Lancashire

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Nathan Lyon may have had his Lancashire stint cut short to just seven matches but he’s having an influence here.

There’s nothing in the pitch for him, but a mixture of guile and changes of pace have kept the batters watchful against him.

He had Vince very cleverly caught at leg slip having set the field for just that kind of dismissal.

He also tossed the ball up to Gubbins inviting the drive whilst simultaneously giving the ball every chance of a modicum of spin. Both happened to provide first slip with a simple chance.

Two players who reached 50 then out pretty quickly afterwards.

Tom Prest played two reverse sweeps early in his innings against the Australian both with success. But hasn’t tried it since.

    Lyon looks class.
