  3. 'Kookaburra ball is definitely different' - Critchleypublished at 18:38 13 April

    Close: Essex 530-7 v Kent 245-1

After day two v Kent, Matt Critchley spoke to BBC Essex about the Kookaburra ball.

"It’s definitely different but I don’t think it’s a bad thing," he said.

"If it’s a good wicket you should be able to score runs. But we also saw last week (at Trent Bridge) if you get on a wicket which is doing something you can take wickets.

"We’ve had four games with it now and won three so we must be doing something good with it."

  4. Close of play at Bristolpublished at 18:37 13 April

    Gloucs 263 v Yorks 326 & 57-0

That's it for day two at Bristol, where Yorkshire have extended their lead over Gloucestershire to a healthy 120 with all 10 second-innings wickets intact.

Openers Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean have guided the visitors to 57-0 at stumps after Gloucestershire were bowled out for 263 earlier in the day.

  5. 'It hasn't really sunk in yet' - Salespublished at 18:35 13 April

    Close: Northants 552-6 dec v Middlesex 128-1

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

James Sales told the BBC his achievement in scoring a maiden first-class hundred against Middlesex at Wantage Road "hasn't really sunk in yet."

The 21-year-old was a late call-up for the match following an injury to George Bartlett, and grasped his opportunity with an unbeaten 113 - watched by his father David, one of Northamptonshire's all-time batting greats.

"I'm really happy to get the first one out of the way, and happy to contribute something for the team," he said.

Sales and Emilio Gay (261) shared a fifth-wicket stand worth 181, a county record against Middlesex, to boost the home side to 552-6 declared - and 19-year-old seamer Raphy Weatherall claimed the wicket of Mark Stoneman with his eighth ball on first-class debut as the visitors closed on 128-1 after another run-heavy day.

  6. 'Lower order needs to stick around'published at 18:33 13 April

    Close: Notts 399 v Worcs 220-6

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

A day of disappointment I guess for a couple of players, Lyndon James out for 96, he'll be heartbroken about that, so too Rob Jones out for 90 in the Worcestershire innings that's a top score for the Pears.

They could do with the lower order sticking around tomorrow morning and getting as close as they can to the Nottinghamshire first-innings score.

We've had two full days here at Trent Bridge and the third day tomorrow also expected to be largely dry so we can see this game move on nicely with both sides pretty much in contention.

  7. Close of play at Utilita Bowlpublished at 18:33 13 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 233-4

We began the day wondering who was on top. We end the day wondering who is on on top.

Hampshire added 62 runs for the last four wickets this morning.

But at 211-2, it looked like Lancashire were set to grab control only for two wickets in two balls from Ian Holland to wrestle it back.

They will resume tomorrow 134 runs behind with six wickets left and Keaton Jennings on 85.

The Lancashire captain's wicket could be the decisive one of the match.

  8. Close of play at Cardiffpublished at 18:31 13 April

    Glamorgan 237 & 74-4 v Derbys 198

Bad light has intervened at Cardiff to halt the game with Glamorgan on 74-4 in their second innings.

Colin Ingram (10) and nightwatchman Mason Crane (3) are the not-out batters after Alex Thomson picked up three wickets for the visitors and Glamorgan will resume 113 ahead on day three.

  9. Postpublished at 18:25 13 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 229-4

Into the final three overs of the day in Southampton.

George Bell is battling hard alongside captain Keaton Jennings to try to get to the close only four down.

  10. 'Durham are not out of this'published at 18:25 13 April

    Close: Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 178-3

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It could have been worse, it could have been better, but Durham are not out of this by any stretch of the imagination.

  11. 'It's been an absorbing day'published at 18:22 13 April

    Close: Surrey 358-6 v Somerset 285

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It's been an absorbing day with good batting from Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Ben Foakes and Jamie Smith with an elegant 50 as well.

Somerset's bowlers have stuck to their task commendably.

  12. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:21 13 April

    Notts 399 v Worcs 220-6

Brett D'Oliveira and Nathan Smith see Worcestershire safely through to stumps after that double strike by Calvin Harrison, but they still need another 30 runs to be sure of avoiding the follow-on.

Harrison, who has figures of 3-78, earlier hit his maiden first-class half-century while Lyndon James was last man out for 96 after the pair had shared a seventh-wicket stand of 146.

D'Oliveira ends the day on 29 not out, with Smith on 15.

  13. 'A good Saturday afternoon for Kent fans'published at 18:18 13 April

    Close: Essex 530-7 v Kent 245-1

    Alex Hoad
    BBC Radio Kent commentator

Ben Compton bringing up his century from the final ball of the day, joining skipper Daniel Bell-Drummond in three figures at Chelmsford. If a certain beer company did Saturday afternoons for Kent fans...

The 218-run partnership from 426 balls and lasting more than two sessions has taken any jeopardy out of the game for Kent and meant an opportunity for them to chase down batting bonus points tomorrow.

Intriguingly the visitors could potentially even end this game with more bonus points than Essex, should they put their foot down and also avoid losing wickets in the 30 overs remaining for the accrual of bowling points.

  14. Ten-wicket haul for Alex Thomsonpublished at 18:17 13 April

    Glamorgan 237 & 69-4 v Derbyshire 198

It is 13 April, but we have a 10-wicket haul to celebrate for a spinner!

Step forward Derbyshire's Alex Thomson. After a career-best 7-65 yesterday, he removed the first three Glamorgan wickets in this second innings.

Sadly, Sam Conners has just bowled Billly Root, so Thomson's chance of 10 in the innings has gone!

Glamorgan lead by 108 with six wickets remaining.

  15. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:15 13 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 178-3

The players leave the field at Edgbaston and there will be no century tonight for Alex Lees.

He goes to bed on 94 not out as he anchors this Durham reply to Warwickshire's mammoth score.

They trail by 520 and basically have to bat for the rest of this match to escape with a draw.

  16. Close of play at the Kia Ovalpublished at 18:13 13 April

    Surrey 358-6 v Somerset 285

A good, hard day's cricket is a fair description for today at The Oval.

Kasey Aldridge gives up just a single from the final over as Cameron Steel and Jordan Clark make it to stumps.

Surrey lead by 73 thanks to Dom Sibley's 100 and half-centuries from Rory Burns, Jamie Smith and Ben Foakes.

But the visitors have kept at it and a word for Shoaib Bashir, who has now bowled 31 overs in this innings and gone at little more than two runs per over.

Remember, Bashir is still learning his craft as a spinner.

  17. Could Lancashire counter-attack?published at 18:12 13 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 211-4

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Lancashire might look at this period now when the ball is not doing much because it's 60 overs old, it's the end of the day and maybe one or two bodies are tired. They might look at this as a chance to try and counter attack a little bit, press on and that's what we've seen with the two quick wickets.

All of a sudden Hampshire are up again and thinking actually this could be a very, very awkward nine overs left tonight for Lancashire to try and bat.

  18. Close of play at Northantspublished at 18:12 13 April

    Northants 552-6 dec v Middlesex 128-1

Another day dominated by the batters comes to a close at Wantage Road.

Middlesex opener Nathan Fernandes goes to stumps on 65 with Max Holden unbeaten on 40.

But the day has belonged to Northants Emilio Gay, who scored 261, while James Sales also made a maiden first-class century.

  19. 200 up for Worcestershirepublished at 18:08 13 April

    Notts 399 v Worcs 203-6

Worcestershire are edging closer to that follow-on target of 250, with four overs remaining to be bowled tonight.

Nathan Smith takes the Pears' total beyond 200, cutting Liam Patterson-White to the boundary.

Smith is on nine, with skipper Brett D'Oliveira at the other end on 23.

  20. 'Batting averages being boosted'published at 18:08 13 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 245-1

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

Difficult to see where a positive result is going to come from in this one.

After piling-up 530-7, Essex will have hoped to put pressure on the Kent batting but they have discovered just why the visitors found it so hard to take wickets.

The ball gets soft quickly and the low and slow pitch is making it comfortable for the batters who just have to concentrate.

And concentrate Daniel Bell-Drummond and Ben Compton have, to both make well constructed centuries.

A draw looks the favourite but batting averages are there to be boosted…
