  1. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 10-0

First boundary of the morning as Brad Wheal strays onto leg stump and Emilio Gay gratefully clips it off his pads to the fence.

It's been a bright start for Durham, with Gay on six and Alex Lees scoring four from the two deliveries he's faced so far.

  2. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 8-0 after 3 overs

Craig Overton is a tiny bit short, more back of a length, allowing Dean Elgar to punch two through the covers.

A couple of balls later he over compensates and the South African southpaw gets the first boundary of the morning in sumptuous style, straight driving past mid off for four.

  3. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 1-0

Craig Overton got one to leap off a length to Dean Elgar first ball, creating plenty of oohs and aahs in the press box, but little alarm as the first over is technically a maiden, just one leg bye giving big Paul Walter a couple of balls to face.

Josh Davey, as expected, takes the new ball ahead of his skipper Lewis Gregory from the River End.

  4. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yorkshire 4-0 v Warwickshire

The return of Joe Root and Harry Brook has forced a bit of a reshuffle for Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath, who wants to keep his bowling options broad.

So Dom Bess has been shoved up to open the batting with Finlay Bean left out. He's been in good touch with his maiden century in the win over Worcestershire so he'll be up for the challenge.

First over from Ethan Bamber safely seen off by Adam Lyth, who carefully steered the third ball to deep third for the first runs.

  5. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 3-0

Four slips in formation alongside wicketkeeper Ben Brown as Kyle Abbott gets the game under way for Hampshire.

Durham captain Alex Lees is off the mark immediately, pushing a quick single into the covers while Emilio Gay collects a couple of runs through gully.

  6. Overton to old team-mate Elgarpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 0-0

Somerset did the crucial first part right today, winning the toss, so it is not Messrs Porter, Cook (returning and could be announced an England man by the end of today) and Snater creating havoc with the new Dukes ball on a green top, but potentially Davey and Gregory along with the returning Craig Overton.

Overton had a Thursday night-Friday morning back spasm (a common occurrence seemingly with Ben McKinney missing today for the same reason) but is back with new ball in hand to Dean Elgar.

  9. Foxes leading the waypublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 2 May

    Division Two

Leicestershire and Derbyshire, two sides who have struggled in recent seasons, have enjoyed fine starts to this campaign. They're first and second in the early table.

Derbyshire visit winless Glamorgan, while the Foxes host Northants - who are also without a victory.

There's still no James Anderson for Lancashire as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

The Red Rose county, who have drawn all three of their matches, face Gloucestershire at Old Trafford.

There's also a big game at a sun-baked Lord's where Middlesex host Kent. Both will be keen for a return to Division One this season.

We'll bring you updates from Division Two throughout the day.

  10. Lovely morning in Southamptonpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hampshire v Durham (11:00 BST)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's a nice morning in West End and we are set for highs of around 24C today.

Durham didn't return home after their two-day win at Worcester on Sunday. Instead they stayed in the West Midlands and made the trip to Southampton from there.

Emilio Gay and Matty Potts return today. Potts had to miss the game at New Road - at the behest of the ECB. Gay had a stomach injury. Brendan Doggett also missed that game with an ankle issue and is back. Which means no place for loanees Jake Ball and Jack Blatherwick.

It had been rumoured Ben Raine will sit this one out - and he is. Opener Ben McKinney also misses this one.

Durham have gone with two spinners in George Drissell and Callum Parkinson, who hasn't played yet this season. They are playing on the track used for the Somerset game last weekend.

Sonny Baker missed Hampshire's draw with Somerset - also at the behest of the ECB - so he returns, as does Felix Organ.

This is match number 33 between the two, but Durham have only won twice in Southampton.

  11. Unbeaten Hampshire won't worry about the Rainepublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hampshire v Durham (11:00 BST)

There’s little danger of rain today at the Utilita Bowl, but Hampshire might have been more concerned about a slight variation in spelling – namely Durham’s Ben Raine.

The 33-year-old seamer was in good form during April, picking up 19 wickets – second only to Nottinghamshire’s Fergus O’Neill – and his figures of 4-20 ensured Worcestershire were steamrollered for just 81 as Durham triumphed inside two days at New Road.

However, Raine is rested for this one, with Matty Potts and Brendan Doggett spearheading Durham's bowling attack - and opener Emilio Gay also returns in place of Ben McKinney, who has a back spasm.

Hampshire have made an undefeated start to the season and, while bad weather scuppered their chances of forcing victory against Somerset last time around, there was plenty to please the Hampshire faithful, with Brad Wheal and James Fuller taking four wickets apiece.

Nick Gubbins impressed again with the bat, top-scoring with 82 – but Hampshire, having mustered only two batting bonus points so far, will need a few more sizeable contributions elsewhere.

  12. Green for the quickspublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex (11:00 BST)

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Taunton

Poor Nick Pepper the Somerset head groundsman has been given all sorts of requests in recent times.

Before his tenure, when this pitch was dubbed 'Ciderabad', Somerset were much maligned for making it spin, particularly in that famous game against Essex back in 2019 when they sealed the title here.

Today he could have prepared a turning surface, but even after a poor (by his high standards) first few games and last season, Simon Harmer is still one of the best spinners in world cricket.

A dangerous tactic either way, but Somerset need a first win of the season, so have gambled on the green tactic that has Sam Cook, Shane Snater and Jamie Porter licking their lips.

However, Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl, so their quicks will get first use.

Somerset also see the return of a great servant, Dean Elgar back from paternity leave to play against his old side. Most memorable of his time here was that partnership with the recently departed Roelof van der Merwe against Surrey in the One Day Cup. He also batted well opening the batting in the T20 Blast match here last year.

  13. Root & Brook back as Bairstow brings up 100published at 10:46 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yorkshire v Warwickshire (11:00 BST)

Wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow appeals for a catch with Joe Root and Harry Brook in an Ashes Test against AustraliaImage source, Getty Images

Yorkshire skipper Jonny Bairstow celebrates his ton today before scoring a run as he makes the 100th County Championship appearance of his career against unbeaten Warwickshire.

The former England keeper has made a decent start as Tykes skipper, leading the side to one win, one defeat and one draw on their return to Division One and has been in decent nick with the bat with a couple of half-centuries - notably an undefeated 86 in securing the draw with Durham last time out.

He couldn't have asked for a bigger boost in his milestone game than to have old international team-mates Joe Root and new England white-ball captain Harry Brook in the side after Rob Key and co made them available for this match, with the Test against Zimbabwe on the horizon.

The pair each played five times for Yorkshire last season, scoring more than 800 runs between them.

They are not the only new faces for this one as Australia A seamer Jordan Buckingham makes his debut after signing for the next five games.

Like Yorkshire, the Bears sat out the last round of games and come suitably refreshed to defend their unbeaten record.

Australia all-rounder Beau Webster is in line for his debut having arrived for his three-month stint, compensating for Sri Lanka's Vishwa Fernando whose short-term deal has ended.

There's still no Chris Woakes, although he's back in the nets after an ankle injury, , externalbut the latest exciting graduate of the SACA (South Asian Cricket Academy) Zen Malik has been drafted in as batting cover to give boss Ian Westwood some selection flexibility.
