Paul Walter missed out on three figures for Essex when dismissed for 95 but Jordan Cox makes no mistake.

He had to play second fiddle to Walter early on but has accelerated through the day.

It's his ninth century in the First Class game coming from 132 balls with 18 boundaries.

England selectors may be taking note.

Oh, and the Essex 300 is up as well.

  2. Two batting points for Durhampublished at 77.4 overs

    Notts v Durham 301-7

A nice line and length from Lyndon James beats George Drissell's inside edge but misses the stumps.

The Notts all-rounder then strays and goes full on to Drissell's pads.

The batter says thank you very much and flicks it over the man at midwicket for his second boundary.

It brings up the 300 for Durham and a hard-earned second point.

  3. Postpublished at 38.3 overs

    Hants 97-2 v Yorks 121

Umpires James Middlebrook and Rob White have wandered to the boundary edge and it looks like we are going to have a ball change.

The new one is tossed to Ben Cliff, who starts a new spell by being clipped through the leg-side by Fletcha Middleton for a single.

The Hampshire opener is 40 not out - and a somewhat ironic cheer follows as partner Toby Albert finally gets off the mark.

    Warks v Sussex 317-4

Oh, a thing of beauty from John Simpson as he straight-drives Ethan Bamber for four.

    Simpson moves to 89 now.

Warwickshire have no answer to this.

    Northants 38-2 v Kent 231

A second breakthrough for Kent as Grant Stewart bowls Luke Procter for 21 at the start of the 12th over.

    Notts v Durham 297-7

Lyndon James oversteps as Notts concede a 10th no-ball of the innings.

He also throws in a wide and completes an eight-ball over.

Farhan Ahmed - younger brother of England spinner Rehan - continues to be tidy as he whirls away with his energetic action. Three from his 17th over.

    Warks v Sussex 312-4

That's the 150 partnership between Tom Clark and John Simpson.

The floodlights are on at Edgbaston.

A day that started well for Warwickshire has turned out to be a rather tough one.

Tom Clark has completed his century and the experienced captain John Simpson has played really well for his 72.

Warwickshire are finding it increasingly difficult to get much out of the pitch and to stem the flow of runs.

  9. Postpublished at 37.3 overs

    Hants 97-2 v Yorks 121

A quiet period at the Utilita Bowl as Hampshire look to get things back on track after losing Mark Stoneman and Nick Gubbins.

Ben Coad has a short mid-off and short mid-on in place for Toby Albert, who has faced 18 balls and has yet to score a run.

Lancashire have Australian Test opener Marcus Harris in their squad this season - but he's not first up in this match.

Michael Jones, signed from Durham, is partnering Keaton Jennings as the Red Rose look to see it through to the close with as little damage as possible.

Toby Roland-Jones and Ryan Higgins are sharing the new ball.

    Somerset 110-3 v Worcs 154

Tom Banton takes a little step down the wicket to Ben Allison and unleashes a mighty pull which races to the rope.

He moves into the 40s at a run-a-ball.

  12. Postpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 4 April

    Essex 283-3 v Surrey

Jordan Cox enters the nineties as he crashes the ball away through the off side.

The run rate is heading up towards four per over - Surrey need another wicket.

  13. Reece cleans up Gloucestershirepublished at 70.4

    Derbys v Gloucs 222

The Luis Reece show comes to an end at Derby as he has Matt Taylor caught by Caleb Jewell for eight.

It gives Reece final figures of 6-52 from 20.4 overs - not a career-best as he once took 7-20 - but a top effort nonetheless.

And don't forget canny medium-pacer Anuj Dal, who ripped out the middle order with 4-43.

Graeme van Buuren's 67 was the top score for the visitors.

  14. 300 runs

300 up for Sussexpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 4 April

    Warks v Sussex 307-4

John Simpson eases Tazeem Ali away to the point boundary and then drives the spinner to the extra-cover fence.

    This is painful for Warwickshire.

  15. 100 runs

100 up for Somersetpublished at 25.1 overs

    Somerset 101-3 v Worcs 154

Tom Banton drives Ben Allison down the ground for an eighth boundary which brings up three figures for Somerset.

Things look a whole lot rosier since Banton came to the wicket at 39-3.

  16. Postpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 4 April

    Essex 271-3 v Surrey

A tired looking delivery from Dan Lawrence is short, wide and whacked away to the cover boundary by Matt Critchley.

They take a single before Jordan Cox edges wide of slip for four more.

The champions are not enjoying this.

    Bashir b Ahmed 20 (Glamorgan 229-9 v Leics)

The battle of the young England spinners comes to an end at Sophia Gardens as Rehan Ahmed bowls Shoaib Bashir.

But Bashir has done well, adding 53 for the ninth wicket with Chris Cooke, who is 55 not out - his half-century took him 95 balls and arrived with a single off Tom Scriven.

  18. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 4 April

    Warks v Sussex 296-4

A brilliant century from Tom Clark who went through the gears.

His first 50 came from 145 balls and his second off just 78 deliveries.

The way things are going his captain, John Simpson will be joining him on three figures as he has gone to 71 from 95 balls.

It's all about Sussex at the moment.

    Ackermann c Montgomery b Ahmed 116 (Notts v Durham 278-7)

Colin Ackermann aims a swish of frustration at the stumps as he falls for a well-made 116.

He seems to be caught in two minds as he nicks Farhan Ahmed to Matt Montgomery who pulls off a super catch.

It came to him quickly but he held on to remove Durham's key man after a 203-ball vigil.

    Ben Raine joins George Drissell.

Dan Lawrence has had a good few overs today - this will be his 14th.

I'm not sure he would have envisaged himself being used so much at the start of the season, but it is quite dry and we've said all day, there's not a huge amount on offer for the spinners.
