I loved that from Harry Brook. Josh Hazlewood has been brought back and everyone expects him to hit that good length. He does, but Brook has managed to hit him for runs!

  3. Eng 221-3published at 29.3 overs

Harry Brook stands tall and backs his eye to scoop a delivery from Josh Hazlewood from close to his body for four.

A couple of balls later and Brook confidently pulls Hazlewood square for four more.

Brook has looked in sublime touch, today, as per exhibit A:

Those big cheers for the overthrows suddenly died down when the crowd saw just how tight that run out was on the big screen.

But Jamie Smith just got his foot down in time and the cheers return.

That was a bizarre piece of fielding, I have to say! Josh Inglis has given away a four with that throw, but he did clip the stumps and so-very-nearly ran out Jamie Smith!

  6. Eng 213-3published at 29 overs

An eventful delivery as England pick up six runs after some overthrows following a shy at the stumps at the non-striker's end by Josh Inglis.

However, Jamie Smith was coasting along and there's a few nerves as the umpire's review it. Smith's bat isn't down but his foot is as he strides into the crease. Just.

There's something of Matthew Hayden about Jamie Smith. Adam Zampa holds the pace off and Smith clatters him to the ropes. Effortless.

Harry Brook has been brutal against anything short in this innings off both the quicks and the spinners - Australia's default tactic to him hasn't quite worked out as yet.Short balls:

    • v Pace - 20 off 10
    • v Spin - 22 off 9
  9. Eng 201-3published at 28 overs

Harry Book has 71 off 48 balls. Jamie Smith is 23 off 17.

This is what I love about Jamie Smith. Look at how effortlessly he plays it, but then the ball just flies!

Marnus Labuschagne into the attack. Jamie Smith is licking his lips.

With the minimum of fuss, Smith uses his reach and pummels the Aussie part-time spinner back over his head for a straight six.

I haven't seen Adam Zampa bowling like this in ages. He's usually very reliable. Must be the illness!

  13. Eng 191-3published at 27 overs

Harry Brook's judgment of length has been spot on.

He drills Adam Zampa's last-but-one delivery for four through the covers.

Brook has looked in fine touch today.

Sean Abbott, sporting a cookie-duster moustache, bangs it in short to Harry Brook at the end of his sixth over.

It's a lively bouncer, and Brook takes on the hook. The ball flashes off the top edge and goes over the diving Josh Inglis for four.

Abbott has his head in his hands.
