Nice bowling there, hope England can keep it up. Critical period coming up here

The odds are always in Australia's favour if Steven Smith is in the middle! So, it's two big wickets for England, who now have slightly more cards in their favour.

    Smith c Smith b Potts 5 (Aus 75-2)

    Smith caught Smith!

The Australian edition attacks Matty Potts' bowling, lashing a number of drives including one to the cover boundary.

He tries again from the final delivery of the over and nicks an inside edge behind for England's Smith to snaffle a catch.

Delight in the stands, as you'd expect.

I know people have liked being down on this white-ball series but it's been pretty entertaining. And TMS is the soundtrack as ever. It's been great seeing new Aussie and England players, and also new particularly Jacob Bethell and Matthew Short. And my new favourite bromance, Mark Wood and my favourite Australian import, Geoff Lemon. More of this!

  7. Aus 68-1published at 9 overs

Steven Smith starts his innings with two dot balls, with the first of those beating his outside edge.

Just two runs from Carse's second over, after his first went for 19.

Well bowled, Brydon Carse! He's shown really good character here to bounce back. He was hit for 19 off his first over but he's taken up that challenge.

    Head b Carse 34 (Aus 68-1)

Carse gets his revenge on Head!

Having dispatched the England seamer for 18 in the previous over, Head goes to loft Carse over mid-wicket and sees himself castled.

Head departs for 34 from 23, he's got Australia off to a flyer.

There was a nice elegance to that shot from Mitchell Marsh. It will be interesting to see who England turn to after the first powerplay!

  11. Aus 66-0published at 8 overs

Marsh gets in on the action, whistling Matty Potts back down the ground for four.

Potts closes the powerplay with a couple of dots - it's been a good one for Australia.

Australia are off to a quick start inside the powerplay as has been the case for the last couple of years. Only 2021 England can better them in terms of powerplay scoring rate.

    Fastest scoring powerplay teams:

    • England 2021: 7.12
    • Australia 2024: 7.09
    • Australia 2023: 7.03
    • India 2023: 6.39

Australia are changing the gears now with the ball moving a little less. It's danger signs for England!

  14. Aus 60-0published at 7 overs

    Four more!

Fuller from Carse and Head squirts him away for another boundary at backward square.

19 from the over, 18 of them Head's, who moves to 32 from 19.

There were gasps around the press box the moment that ball left the bat of Travis Head.

The sound was incredible and it was an enormous hit!

It's not into the stands, it's over the roof! It's a monster of a six from Travis Head!

  17. 6 runs

    Aus 56-0published at 6.5 overs

First change for England, and it's not a nice welcome to the innings for Brydon Carse.

Travis Head pulls him for two fours, a pull to fine leg and a powerful cover drive that bring up the Australian fifty.

That's just for starters though, as the Australian opener dispatches Carse for a gigantic six that clears the Mound stand.

    We'll need a new ball.

  18. Aus 41-0published at 6 overs

    Lovely shot!

Marsh cuts Archer uppishly, sending the ball flying to the boundary at backward point.

A further single moves Marsh to 19 from 22.

  19. Aus 33-0published at 5 overs

Potts does a reasonable line in revenge, thudding the following ball into the body of Marsh then hooping a big inswinger in that Smith takes well to his left.

With that amount of deviation you'd expect an edge, but apparently not on this occasion.

That wasn't even a short ball, that was pretty much on length. Mitchell Marsh gets hold of it and he's popped it seven or eight rows into the stands!
