Lewis, during yesterday's extended rain commentary I invented a semi-sentient super-sopper and inserted it into the Star Wars universe.

Why do the ICC not invest in proper pitch covers for all host venues of a tournament, a cover that covers the whole field and almost works like a tank that collects the rain water and can be syphoned off the top out of the field of play. Wait, have I just came up with an invention?

    Lewis

The only sport in the world where results are determined by weather and the fact that they will not allow fixtures to be replayed. The relevant bodies really need to look at this. I feel for England, I really do.

I think it's the end for Mott and Buttler regardless. Feels like many of the current squad have given as much as they can. It would be sensible to start looking to the future.

It's not often that you can say the weather in Manchester is just the same as in Antigua.

For the record, the players have to be on the field by 21:46 BST for a five-over game. We still have time, folks.

How can it be right that England could go out of the tournament without having played two of their four group games. What other sport would allow that?

    Pete

I love my cricket but have been very disappointed with this tournament’s lack of games. Who decided that it should be played in a rainy season? Whoever wins, it will not be a true result as teams have not had the opportunity to show their worth.

    Christina

Looking forward to the torrent of English criticism of the tournament rules if this game is rained off. England could, of course, have avoided this scenario if they hadn't lost to Australia.

It’s the start of the rainy season in the Caribbean and so it’s no surprise that afternoon downpours have popped up in Antigua.

Further showers will come and go through the rest of the day with some heavy and thundery ones. But towards the end of the afternoon I’m hopeful they will subside to allow a dry end to the day - perhaps with a bit more blue sky and sunshine.

    Let us pose a question.

If England go out of this tournament today, it'll largely be because of the rain taking out this match today and their game against Scotland.

Would it therefore be unfair to review the positions of coach Matthew Mott and captain Jos Buttler at this point?

This tournament was going to be the critical point in deciding their futures - if we'd seen the same issues that marred a disappointing ODI World Cup campaign, it likely would have seen one or both of them depart their positions.

But - should they go out - it'll largely be thanks to factors outside of their control. Yet England may still think now is the right time to make changes, with nine months until the next global tournament and several veterans approaching the end of their careers.

So what do you think? And who would you pick in their place?

A few of you are asking for a forecast. This is what BBC Weather says - so not much chance of significant rain but if it does come, it could be thundery and heavy. The lack of a breeze isn't helping shift the grey clouds on either.

The rain has stopped again and England's players are starting to emerge in a not very subtle attempt to get everyone to get a hurry on.

Simon Mahon: If it keeps raining in Antigua and there is no result between England & Namibia, then there's a pretty high chance the Scotland cricket team will still be in the T20 World Cup after the football side have been knocked out of Euro 2024.

  18. Last time out: Namibia thrashed by Australiapublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 15 June

Namibia suffered a heavy defeat by Australia in their last game as they were bowled out for 72.

The result saw Australia book their place in the Super 8s and confirmed Namibia's elimination.

  19. Last time out: England hammer Omanpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 15 June

After losing to Australia, it looked like England would need two big wins to overhaul Scotland's vastly superior net run-rate.

As it turned out, they only needed one after bowling Oman out for 47 and chasing it down in 3.1 overs.

They still need to beat Namibia and hope Scotland lose to Australia, though...
