  1. NZ 235-3published at 59 overs

Kane Williamson now averages 97.69 in Hamilton, which is just ridiculous.

Rachin Ravindra looks to charge Shoaib Bashir, but the England spinner pushes the delivery wide, causing Ravindra to adjust and chop the ball into the ground.

  2. NZ 232-3published at 58 overs

    Lead by 436

Kane Williamson charges Jacob Bethell again and biffs the ball over his head for four.

We are seeing a change of tempo now for New Zealand, who are looking to hammer home their already considerable advantage.

  3. 100 runs

Kane Williamson reaches his century in style!

He skips down the track to Jacob Bethell and absolutely launches the ball back over his head for six.

It is the fifth Test in succession that Williamson has reached three figures at this ground.

  4. NZ 220-3published at 57 overs

New Zealand's lead is now 424, meaning England would need to break the world Test record to secure victory.

  5. 6 runs

    NZ 220-3published at 56.4 overs

Rachin Ravindra is slowly warming to his task. Shoaib Bashir gives this one some air but Ravindra plays a powerful slog-sweep over mid-wicket for six.

  6. NZ 210-3published at 56 overs

    Lead by 414

Five runs off Jacob Bethell's four deliveries.

We will bring you an update on Ben Stokes' fitness as soon as we have it. But you would have to think he will not bat given England's situation is pretty dire.

That really didn't look good, did it? Remember when Stokes pulled up mid-over in Christchurch? He at least stayed on the field. This time he was straight off and in obvious discomfort.

  8. NZ 205-3published at 55.2 overs

Oh dear. Ben Stokes does not look comfortable here. In fact, he is walking straight off.

It looks like it could be his left hamstring, which he tore while playing in The Hundred in August.

A huge blow for Stokes and England, who are already in a whole heap of trouble.

Jacob Bethell will complete the over and Ollie Pope will assume the captaincy.

  9. NZ 201-3published at 55 overs

    Lead by 405

Kane Williamson steers the ball wide of Harry Brook at first slip and to the rope to move into the nineties.

He averages 92 at Seddon Park so we should not be surprised.

  10. India slip to 22-3published at 02:12 Greenwich Mean Time

India are in all sorts of bother at the Gabba, having fallen to 22-3 in reply to Australia's 445.

Mitchell Starc removed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill - both caught by Mitchell Mash.

Then Josh Hazlewood has just nicked off Virat Kohli cheaply.

Another shower is sparing India any more damage for now.

  11. dropped catch

Williamson dropped on 86published at 54 overs

It's a tough chance, but a chance nonetheless.

Kane Williamson goes for a loose pull, the ball brushes off the glove, but Ollie Pope cannot quote pouch it one handed diving full stretch to his left.

  12. NZ 195-3published at 53 overs

    Lead by 399

Too short from Shoaib Bashir and Rachin Ravindra, who has been pretty reserved all day, pulls away to the rope for his second boundary of the innings.

New Zealand's lead is now 399. They could have a bit of a thrash to move their lead beyond 418 and declare to set England a record run chase.

    They won't though.

  13. NZ 187-3published at 52 overs

    Lead by 391

Play and miss from Rachin Ravindra as he is finally tempted to have a nibble at a wide delivery from Ben Stokes.

Ravindra is 17 from 64 deliveries.

  14. Postpublished at 01:59 Greenwich Mean Time

Skipper Ben Stokes has brought himself on for the first over after the drinks break. He is 2-45 from 10 overs so far.

    You are most welcome, Jeremy.

Entertaining/exhilarating/frustrating certainly sums up watching England pretty well.

This might not be the best ending to 2024 but I want to thank BBC Cricket for allowing me to follow all 17 tests from Pennsylvania. Thoroughly entertaining/exhilarating/frustrating. Cheers!

  18. drinks break

    Drinks - NZ 186-3published at 51 overs

    Lead by 390

A rare loose shot from Kane Williamson and he is nearly done for.

One hand comes off the bat as he charges Shoaib Bashir. The ball loops up into the on-side, but just evades Brydon Carse who was diving backwards at mid-wicket.

It is time for a drinks break with New Zealand slowly, very slowly tightening their grip on this game.

  19. NZ 180-3published at 50 overs

    Williamson 80, Ravindra 15

Just as I say that, Kane Williamson has to get a wriggle on as New Zealand push for a slightly risky single. The throw is not far away from Gus Atkinson, but I think Williamson would have been home regardless.

Williamson then pulls to deep fine leg for a single to bring up the 50 partnership from 121 balls.

It is death by a thousand cuts for England at the moment.

  20. NZ 176-3published at 49 overs

    Lead by 380

Don't forget this is an extended session because of the earlier rain, so we still have 90 minutes until tea.

The way Kane Williamson is batting I expect him to still be at the crease at the interval. He is looking relatively untroubled out there.
