New Zealand's lead has gone past 600 runs - this is the first time they have done so against England and the second time overall in their Test cricket history, the other being 659 runs against Sri Lanka in 2018 at Christchurch.

  2. NZ 408-7published at 95 overs

Shoaib Bashir is given the chance to bowl with the fresh cherry and New Zealand nudge it around for three singles.

    Thanks, Mike.

Yep, Brook being given the new ball mid-over sums up where we are in this match.

If you are an England fan and still with us, give yourself a pat on the back.

Right, to contemplate a world where Harry Brook is taking the new ball, here's Tom Mallows.

  5. new ball

    NZ 405-7published at 94 overs

    Lead by 609

Ah, Harry Brook, a new ball bowler.

A Santner single is the last run scored with the old cherry, bringing up New Zealand's 400.

The all-rounder then smears the first delivery of the new ball through the covers for four, and takes a single to retain the strike.

  6. NZ 398-7published at 93 overs

Here's Bashir for his 32nd over.

Santner smacks his fifth ball through mid-off for four - that takes him to 17 from 12 and New Zealand's lead past 600.

    NZ 393-7published at 92 overs

    Ah.

England are bringing Harry Brook on to bowl - they might as well scrawl "Declare, please" across his forehead.

He sends down four dot balls before Santner clouts him for a straight six.

It's taken on the grass bank by a man wearing shorts and a shirt and tie - an impressive take as he had to compete with another spectator and was running towards a wall.

  8. 6 runs

    NZ 387-7published at 91 overs

    Lead by 591

    Scooped over the fence!

New batter Mitchell Santner gets off the mark with a big six down the ground, stepping down the pitch and lifting Bashir's penultimate ball over the top of the advertising hoardings.

That shot takes Bashir to 150 runs conceded.

    Phillips c Carse b Bashir 3 (NZ 380-7)

    Well, there goes Phillips.

He goes to clout Bashir over the ropes and drops the ball straight into the hands of Brydon Carse at deep mid-wicket.

Bashir has his second wicket, for the cost of a mere 144 runs.

Yeah, I'd say just an hour is being generous, Kyle.

Maybe fair enough with Kane Williamson still out there, but I'm not really sure what they're doing now.

Two more singles from this Bethell over.

Kyle: There is no way England get anywhere near this total. New Zealand should just declare and they should have done for at least an hour.

  12. NZ 378-6published at 89 overs

A couple more singles from Bashir's over are added to New Zealand's tally.

Any sight of an England seamer?

At this stage of the night, I'm prepared to believe that fast bowlers have never existed and they're just a creation of my tired mind.

    Another England review.

Phillips pushes to mid-off and sets off, but is sent back by his batting partner.

England think he might not have grounded his bat properly, with Pope taking off the bails, but replays show he was fine.

  14. NZ 376-6published at 88 overs

Still no sign of a declaration, Glenn Phillips walks out.

He takes a single into the covers.

A first Test wicket for Jacob Bethell!

It's six and out for Daryl Mitchell - he lofts the England spinner down the ground but falls two balls later, not getting hold of his shot and finding Matty Potts at long-off.

Potts takes the catch falling backwards, his cap and shades spilling onto the ground on impact, but he manages to hold on to the thing that matters.

The have gone off for rain AGAIN at the Gabba, but not before India lost another wicket to slump to 48-4 in response to Australia's 445 all out.

Rishabh Pant was the man to go, edging a Pat Cummins delivery through to Alex Carey when on nine.

Skipper Rohit Sharma has walked out to join KL Rahul, who is unbeaten on 30. The other batters managed just 17 between them.

When the rain dries up you can listen to commentary of that match here.

  17. NZ 368-5published at 87 overs

Mitchell drops to a knee and sweeps Bashir away for four.

Meanwhile the TV cameras pick Tim Southee out in the changing room - he's still in his training gear.

He has 98 international sixes - perhaps he can arrive at next drop and go boundary hunting...

  18. 50 runs

50 for Daryl Mitchellpublished at 86 overs

    NZ 364-5

A half century for Daryl Mitchell, turning Bethell's penultimate delivery square for a single.

The landmark comes from 71 balls.

On another note, England have bowled exclusively spin for 20 overs. Matty Potts was last on in the 66th over, Stokes bowled half of the 56th, Carse had the 50th, Atkinson the 40th.

    Anything you can do, Tom...

Mitchell takes his turn to launch a six down the ground, giving Bashir's penultimate ball a wallop.

Given Stokes' recent injury record, there was simply no point risking him bowling so many overs when the series is won. Time to accept he's a middle-order batsman who can chip in with a few overs, because his presence as captain is more important than that of an all-rounder.
