  1. dropped catch

Williamson dropped on 86published at 54 overs

It's a tough chance, but a chance nonetheless.

Kane Williamson goes for a loose pull, the ball brushes off the glove, but Ollie Pope cannot quote pouch it one handed diving full stretch to his left.

  2. NZ 195-3published at 53 overs

    Lead by 399

Too short from Shoaib Bashir and Rachin Ravindra, who has been pretty reserved all day, pulls away to the rope for his second boundary of the innings.

New Zealand's lead is now 399. They could have a bit of a thrash to move their lead beyond 418 and declare to set England a record run chase.

    They won't though.

  3. NZ 187-3published at 52 overs

    Lead by 391

Play and miss from Rachin Ravindra as he is finally tempted to have a nibble at a wide delivery from Ben Stokes.

Ravindra is 17 from 64 deliveries.

  4. Postpublished at 01:59 Greenwich Mean Time

Skipper Ben Stokes has brought himself on for the first over after the drinks break. He is 2-45 from 10 overs so far.

    You are most welcome, Jeremy.

Entertaining/exhilarating/frustrating certainly sums up watching England pretty well.

This might not be the best ending to 2024 but I want to thank BBC Cricket for allowing me to follow all 17 tests from Pennsylvania. Thoroughly entertaining/exhilarating/frustrating. Cheers!

  8. drinks break

    Drinks - NZ 186-3published at 51 overs

    Lead by 390

A rare loose shot from Kane Williamson and he is nearly done for.

One hand comes off the bat as he charges Shoaib Bashir. The ball loops up into the on-side, but just evades Brydon Carse who was diving backwards at mid-wicket.

It is time for a drinks break with New Zealand slowly, very slowly tightening their grip on this game.

  9. NZ 180-3published at 50 overs

    Williamson 80, Ravindra 15

Just as I say that, Kane Williamson has to get a wriggle on as New Zealand push for a slightly risky single. The throw is not far away from Gus Atkinson, but I think Williamson would have been home regardless.

Williamson then pulls to deep fine leg for a single to bring up the 50 partnership from 121 balls.

It is death by a thousand cuts for England at the moment.

  10. NZ 176-3published at 49 overs

    Lead by 380

Don't forget this is an extended session because of the earlier rain, so we still have 90 minutes until tea.

The way Kane Williamson is batting I expect him to still be at the crease at the interval. He is looking relatively untroubled out there.

I won't, David. But I can't speak for everyone reading this.

Anonymous here…. The school think he’s sick. Watching his dad day drink is educational right?

David Edwards (& Freddie). Don’t tell the school.

  13. NZ 172-3published at 48 overs

Pressure released for Rachin Ravindra, who pulls a short ball from Brydon Carse through mid-wicket for four.

Carse then has a right old pop at Ravindra at the end of the over. I'm not sure what he said but I don't think it is broadcastable.

Brydon Carse bowled three consecutive deliveries on an eight metre length to Kane Williamson before going a metre fuller to bring the lbw appeal - just an umpire's call away from yet another wicket set up for the fuller ball for Carse as we've often seen this series.

  15. NZ 168-3published at 47 overs

    Lead by 372

Rachin Ravindra is getting visibly frustrated here. He has only added four runs to his total this morning.

He goes for a sweep off Shoaib Bashir but it only brings a single down to deep fine leg.

Kane Williamson then shows some nimble footwork to skip down the track and loft the ball over Ben Stokes at mid-wicket for four.

Stokes looks to the heavens in frustration, but he wasn't really close to reaching that.

  16. Not outpublished at 45.5 overs

Ooh, just. It is umpire's call, with the ball projected to just kiss the top of middle and leg.

Williamson survives and England keep their review.

  17. England reviewpublished at 45.5 overs

Kane Williamson is trapped on the back foot by Brydon Carse and the ball cannons into his front pad, just above the knee roll.

The umpire turns down the appeal, but England send it upstairs.

    Is height an issue?

  18. Australia bowled out for 445published at 01:26 Greenwich Mean Time

India bowler Jasprit Bumrah holds up the ball after taking 6-76Image source, Getty Images

The rain returned at the Gabba in Brisbane just after India wrapped up the Australia innings.

The hosts were dismissed for 445, with Alex Carey the last man out for 70. Jasprit Bumrah finished with figures of 6-76.

It looks like the rain has stopped though and the umpires are out having a look and the Aussie bowlers are measuring their run-ups. Hopefully play will resume soon.

You can listen to live commentary of India's reply here.

  20. NZ 163-3published at 45 overs

It is still very gloomy at Seddon Park with the floodlights on. That may impact play later on if the cloud persists.

Just the single of Shoaib Bashir's latest over. New Zealand have scored just 27 runs in 13 overs so far today.
