The fact that Rishabh Pant doesn't move his feet much and he's got all these unusual areas where he can score will help, he's very handsy as a batter. He'll just have to stand and deliver, obviously he'll be searching for the boundary.

In fairness, if you've learned to walk again after a car crash that nearly took your life, coming out to bat with a painful foot is probably pretty straightforward.

Ooof, now Brydon Carse takes a bite out of Washington Sundar.

His first delivery rears up and the India spinner gets in a mess, gloving it into the leg side.

Just a no ball off the over, Rishabh Pant doesn't face.

Rishabh Pant could come and get 20 runs really quickly, or he could do something completely different. Or he's bluffing and will start sprinting to get runs.

  8. Ind 314-6published at 102 overs

Gutsy or stupid from Rishabh Pant and the India coaches? Bit of both?

Either way, he resumes on 37 from 48 deliveries - and back goes the field, there's not going to be many quick singles.

The India wicketkeeper pokes at his first delivery as Stokes goes round the wicket, and the England skipper beats the bat with the following delivery too.

Surely it's not. He has a broken foot doesn't he? Here comes Rishabh Pant walking slowly.

    What drama.

Caught! Finally England have a wicket. Ben Duckett has taken a good catch here. My word England have toiled for that, they've worked hard for that.

    Thakur c Duckett b Stokes 41 (Ind 314-6)

Shardul Thakur's resilient stand comes to an end!

He'd sensibly left the previous swinging delivery from Ben Stokes but was tempted to driving at this one and the ball flies to Ben Duckett at gully.

It's a smart catch, the ball flew swiftly and Duckett takes it leaping to his left, keeping his eyes on the ball so that he's facing away from the wicket when he takes it.

And look who it is - Rishabh Pant is hobbling down the pavilion steps.

Shardul Thakur takes a single through point from the opening delivery of Brydon Carse's over and then Washington Sundar doesn't score off the remaining deliveries.

Reminiscent of the start of Sundar's innings, when he didn't score off his first 18 deliveries.

It's been a proper battle but India have rode it out. They've not scored many but they're holding their ground.

Washington Sundar would've been out if that connected. That's the last thing that India want.

  18. Ind 313-5published at 100 overs

Oooh, England almost have a breakthrough on two occasions.

Shardul Thakur clips Ben Stokes to mid-on and Washington Sundar sets off from the non-striker's end, before being sent by his batting partner.

It's because Brydon Carse is swooping down on the ball and the England seamer takes a shy at the stumps from a tight angle - Sundar takes a full-length dive, but would have been beaten by a direct hit.

Thakur then cuts the final ball of the over just in front of Ollie Pope at backward point.

Anytime you get close to 400 in the first innings, that's such a strong position to be in, it will always be a tough chase for the other team.
