    Phoenix 81-1

A half-century for the Birmingham Phoenix opener!

Emma Lamb's superb season continues - she's been in great form for Lancashire, has been recalled by England and now has a 50 in her first game for Birmingham Phoenix.

She brings it up with a two through backward square off Kirstie Gordon.

Across her career, Ellyse Perry averages 54.30 against leg-spin - the highest batting average of any bowling technique.

  3. Phoenix 78-1published at 50 balls

Strategic time-out over - Ellyse Perry gets a bit of strike having played second fiddle since coming in.

She hits Graham's final ball down to long-on for a single.

I'm liking this innings from Emma Lamb.

She hasn't overhit the ball. She is just using the pace and just tapping her shots on the head. She is finding the gaps well.

  5. Phoenix 77-1published at 48 balls

A third Australian in the attack now as Heather Graham comes on to bowl.

Emma Lamb sends her first delivery into the leg side, and the return throw hits the stumps and flies away, allowing an extra run.

The opener then adds her eighth four, guiding the ball through backward point.

A further single and Phoenix will now take a strategic time-out - curious.

  6. Phoenix 70-1published at 45 balls

A conventional sweep this time from Emma Lamb, sending Alana King's first ball over the boundary.

The rest of the set goes for singles - Lamb is on 41 from 23 balls, Perry on seven from six.

    Fantastic striking from Emma Lamb.

When you know that Ellyse Perry is at the other end, it gives you a sense of relaxation. You are so much more confident and you back your own abilities because you think: 'I've got Perry at the other end here!'

It would be good to see an English batter get some runs and really top the table today.

  8. Phoenix 62-1published at 40 balls

Two more Emma Lamb boundaries as captain Ash Gardner brings herself on to bowl.

A tidy reverse sweep reaches the ropes, and the following delivery is lofted through the covers.

This is Lamb's first match in Phoenix colours - she's been a Manchester Originals player up until now.

  9. Phoenix 52-1published at 35 balls

Boundaries for Emma Lamb, firing Cassidy McCarthy past mid-on and then helping the ball past fine leg.

That brings up the Phoenix fifty.

It was a strong start from Georgia Voll but if the Trent Rockets were going to look to get a wicket, the person they were always going to turn to is Alana King. She is one of the best and that is exactly why.

Let's see what captain Ellyse Perry can do in the middle.

  11. Phoenix 41-1published at 30 balls

And indeed Aussie also replaces Aussie as Phoenix captain Ellyse Perry comes to the middle.

She gets under way with a single into the covers.

A superb powerplay by the Birmingham Phoenix who score 36 off their first 25 balls.

They are the only team in the competition so far to have not lost a wicket in their first powerplay and are in a strong position as a consequence, even if they did lose a wicket second ball out of the powerplay.

    Aussie takes Aussie!

Leggie Alana King comes into the attack after the powerplay and takes a wicket with her second delivery, removing compatriot Georgia Voll.

The opener goes for a big whippy sweep, doesn't make contact and up flies a bail.

The batters are doing a fantastic job but they are being helped by a little bit of untidy fielding and poor execution with the ball.

I'm a little bit surprised that Trent Rockets have brought their spinner in so soon. The ball is swinging around, which you don't often see, so you would think maybe the seamer is worth another go.

  15. Phoenix 36-0published at 25 balls

A quieter set to end the powerplay, just four runs from Cassidy McCarthy's second set of five.

Emma Lamb mistimes a pull but it lands safely in the leg side.

  16. Phoenix 32-0published at 20 balls

A first sight of spin with Kirstie Gordon, and the Phoenix batters sweep her for three fours in the set.

It's Emma Lamb who dispatches the first of those, then Voll smacks the other two from consecutive deliveries.

Trent Rockets have just got to tidy things up a little bit here. They haven't made the tidiest start to this innings so far.

You don't really want to be setting that kind of tone this early on, you want to be nice and sharp at the start of a campaign.

  18. Phoenix 16-0published at 15 balls

Alexa Stonehouse has the right to be annoyed with her fielders after a couple of mis-fields cost some extra runs.

She be irked with Emma Lamb too - the Phoenix opener whacks the final delivery over the set through mid-wicket for a one-bounce four.

Young Australian Georgia Voll gets her first taste of The Hundred after a stellar year in T20 cricket.

This is her record in T20s this year:

    • Runs: 365
    • Average: 46
    • Strike-rate: 153
    • High score: 99*
  20. Phoenix 8-0published at 10 balls

Cassidy McCarthy takes the second set of deliveries - she's playing in just her third Hundred match after playing two games for Rockets in 2023.

Georgia Voll whips the seamer's final delivery through mid-wicket for the game's first four.
