  1. Goodbye!published at 05:20 British Summer Time 16 June

Well after all that, it's more heartbreak for Scotland. They are out of the T20 World Cup at the group stage after a superb batting performance from Australia.

However, they leave this tournament with their reputation significantly boosted and will come back with their pride intact. I only hope our footballers can do the same...

Right, George and I are off to our beds. Picture Father Ted and Dougal.

Thank you for joining us. Good night (morning?).

Scotland have been superb in this tournament, and so close to an extraordinary win.

If this competition has taught us anything, it’s that the inclusion of big numbers of associate nations makes the event just so much more interesting.

  4. Marsh pays tribute to Scotlandpublished at 05:09 British Summer Time 16 June

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh paid respect to the Scottish side after being pushed all the way: "We knew we'd qualified before tonight, we spoke pre-game about sticking to our game and how we're trying to win.

"Scotland are a really good outfit, they've improved a hell of a lot over the last few years. We've got a lot of respect for them, they took it down to the wire and it was a good chase in the end.

"We spoke as a group around staying really consistent with how we want to play. Tonight, there was less pressure on us as a team but whenever we've been challenged, it brings the best out of us. We were pushed right to the end there and a bit of experience came through.

"The World Cup starts again now. We've got a lot of trust in our group that we can keep winning games of cricket. T20 is a hard format, you can be slightly off and lose to anyone - as we almost saw today."

  5. 'The guys can hold their heads high'published at 05:04 British Summer Time 16 June

Scotland skipper Richie Berrington was proud of his players' performance: "We were in a pretty good position. It was obviously a good wicket tonight, the guys gave us a great platform in the first 10-12 overs. We didn't manage to capitalise on it in the back end.

"It was a really good start. Unfortunately we didn't manage to execute for long enough. They have great ball strikers all the way through the team and a few big overs in the back end got them back into the game and made it hard to pull back.

"There was a bit of a breeze, so we tried to get them to hit away from it as much as possible, which we did well at times but there was a couple of overs which we didn't quite nail.

"The guys can hold their heads high in terms of how they've played their cricket throughout this tournament. It was a fantastic knock from Travis Head and Stoinis played a few good shots.

"It's great learning for us, great experience for the guys. We're disappointed because we were in a position where we could win."

  6. Postpublished at 04:58 British Summer Time 16 June

Australia's player of the match Marcus Stoinis spoke to the media after his award:"The plan was the usual - get yourself in, hit some nice shots, hit the ball hard along the ground and assess the situation from there.

"There's a strong breeze, which meant that end was easier to hit to. The wicket was really good. We saw they batted really well, we knew it would be a good wicket.

"I was just trying to keep [Travis Head] batting. He picked his bowler and turned the game in that over. It was unfortunate that he got out but he changed the game in that over with those sixes.

"I've been fortunate to play consistently over this last three or four months. I've had good game time. There's no substitute for confidence, that's the recipe we're all trying to keep a hold of."

    Gutted is an understatement.

Dropping Travis Head was a crucial moment, but I'm sure all Scottish fans will be incredibly proud of this team.

  8. Australia win by five wickets; Scotland are out and England progresspublished at 19.4 overs

Tim David smashes a huge six to complete the victory.

Scotland get so close, but fall short. How many runs did they leave out there in the final two overs of their innings? How vital were those dropped catches?

    That could have been history.

  9. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 19.3 overs

Chris Sole drops Tim David! That could have changed the entire game!

Sole slips as he tries to take it in the deep, it's a horrible moment for him.

  10. Aus 178-5 (target 181)published at 19.2 overs

Another easy single given away and it's just three needed.

Scotland need some magic from Brad Wheal.

  11. Aus 177-5 (target 181)published at 19.1 overs

We're into the last over - Australia might be getting nervy. They've left it late.

Just a single off the first ball. Scotland change the field for Matthew Wade.

  12. Aus 176-5 (target 181)published at 19 overs

A very harsh wide on Safyaan Sharif and Australia just need one big swing to get them over the line. It looked like Tim David had chased that.

The next ball cannons off the umpire's shoe and it's just a single instead of a four.

Five needed off the last over and Brad Wheal will bowl it.

  13. Aus 171-5 (target 181)published at 18.3 overs

Matthew Wade scores two before a dot ball.

Then there's a single. Nine needed off eight.

No one is sleeping right now. This is heart-racing stuff.

  14. Aus 169-5 (target 181)published at 18.1 overs

12 needed off 11 and the England fans in the crowd are looking a lot happier now.

Safyaan Sharif comes back on. Brave after a very expensive over.

  15. Aus 168-5 (target 181)published at 17.5 overs

Another short delivery is swatted to the boundary rope by Tim David but there's a fielder there.

    Matter of time now, surely?

  16. Aus 163-5 (target 181)published at 17.2 overs

The next two balls run away for four.

Tim David pulls the first away off his hips, doing the same with the next. A filthy full toss from Brad Wheal and fully punished.

It's now a run a ball. Grim for Scotland.

  17. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 17.1 overs

Brad Wheal comes back on and drops a chance with his first ball.

Or does he? I think it dropped just short. Yup, an inch short.

Tim David was the guilty party, chipping it back to Wheal.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.6 overs

    Stoinis b Watt 59 (Aus 155-5)

Mark Watt gets his man. It's on middle stump and Marcus Stoinis misses it all ends up.

We didn't expect that. Stoinis clearly wants to set up a tense finale.

  19. Aus 155-4 (target 181)published at 16.5 overs

Mark Watt is into Scotland's attack. It would be a remarkable turnaround if they were to strangle Australia from here.

After a few fairly wide deliveries, Marcus Stoinis swats one over Watt's head for four. The next is another reverse sweep for another boundary.

  20. 50 runs

50 for Marcus Stoinispublished at 16 overs

Before that wicket, Australia had scored 46 off the last 12 legitimate balls.

Sharif's final ball goes for four as well, a beautiful cut from Marcus Stoinis - 22 off that over. The momentum is well and truly with Australia.

50 up for Stoinis as well. The coolest man in St Lucia.
