Summary

  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.3 overs

    Kemp b Jonas 2 (Eng 87-5)

    Fran Jonas has four wickets!

An absolute peach of a delivery from Jonas, Kemp plays around it and it clatters into middle stump.

She is certainly having a field day with the ball and at Lord's, there are not many better places to have one.

Heather Knight has dismissed that, with her wrists over the leg side. That's why people love watching her bat.

  3. Eng 86-5published at 12.1 overs

A captain's shot from Heather Knight.

The first ball of Fran Jonas' over is short and Knight dispatches that with ease through the leg side, watching it race away for four.

  4. Eng 82-5published at 12 overs

Freya Kemp is out next to bat and takes two singles from as many balls in what ends as a six-run over.

Eden Carson and Fran Jonas have both been great with the ball and Jonas, who already has three wickets, will now bowl her final over.

Carson is a real point of difference - she spins the ball hard, bowls at a good pace and takes wickets for fun.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.2 overs

    Jones c Green b Carson 11 (Eng 77-5)

    Another wicket for Eden Carson!

Amy Jones looked to send that delivery back down the ground where it came from, does not get enough on it and picks out Maddy Green down the ground who takes a comfortable catch.

England are five down, with almost half of their innings still to come.

Amelia Kerr is obviously a good bowler but it feels like an easing of the pressure now New Zealand have taken Fran Jonas off.

  8. Eng 76-4published at 11 overs

All four of New Zealand's wickets have come via spin so far, but Amelia Kerr is yet to take any, on figures of 0-25 from her three overs.

She gives up 10 runs in her latest over.

  9. Eng 72-4published at 10.2 overs

Brilliant from captain Amy Jones, who could do with a good score here, given England's current position.

A well-timed slog sweep carves through mid-wicket and finds four.

    Thanks, Ffion.

New Zealand's bowlers will be delighted with this start, taking the wickets of England's top four early will undoubtedly be giving them a boost.

At 66-4 at halfway, how many can England turn this into in the next 10 overs?

  11. Eng 66-4published at 10 overs

In England's first game of the summer against Pakistan at Edgbaston, they slipped to a barely believable score of 11-4.

It was up to Heather Knight and Amy Jones to rescue them - which they did, and the experienced duo are in the middle now to do the same job (albeit from a less catastrophic situation).

Halfway through England's innings, which is my cue to hand over to Jonty Colman.

The young spinners are taking this game away from England. Alice Capsey was not prepared to have a little look. That is a beautiful piece of bowling from Eden Carson. Past Alice Capsey and beautifully into the gloves of Izzy Gaze.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.1 overs

Capsey st Gaze b Carson 25 (Eng 61-4)

Another! New Zealand's spinners are working their magic.

It's another soft dismissal, from England's point of view. Alice Capsey pretty much just wanders out of her crease and just walks past it, leaving Izzy Gaze with a simple stumping.

There's very little intent to actually hit the ball, the perfect start for Eden Carson's spell.

  14. Eng 61-3published at 9 overs

A moment of magic like that can change a game completely, and given the significance of Sciver-Brunt in England's batting line-up, it could turn out that way here.

Fran Jonas has figures of 3-13. She's having a day to remember.

That is the best catch Fran Jonas will ever take in her life. That's caught Jonas rather than the other way around, she has surprised herself. When you want a little bit of something special, that is what you want. Dare I say that England are in a little bit of trouble here? That is a little bit of magic.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.2 overs

    Sciver-Brunt c & b Jonas 16 (Eng 57-3)

Fran Jonas, take a bow! That is spectacular.

The spinner takes her third wicket and it's the best of the lot. Nat Sciver-Brunt nails it back at her, she sticks out a hand and plucks it out of thin air one-handed.

Brilliant athleticism and a celebration to match. Sciver-Brunt can only smile in sheer disbelief.

Suzie Bates will be disappointed she didn't stop that, she's one of New Zealand's best fielders. Nat Sciver-Brunt has hit that so hard and it races away for four.

  18. Eng 56-2published at 8 overs

Amelia Kerr starts her over well before an over-pitched delivery allows Nat Sciver-Brunt to drive through the covers for four.

Suzie Bates probably should've stopped it at cover, instead diving over the top of it and leaving mid-off with an impossible chase.

A no-ball from Jess Kerr gifts England a free hit, but the bowler gets away with it as Capsey misses out with a big swish outside off stump.

But Kerr then gets a harsh lesson in Nat Sciver-Brunt's ridiculous ability to score all around the ground. She bowls full and straight, but Sciver-Brunt shimmies across her stumps and sweeps for four.

    Outrageous.
