Gaur almost got there. It was hit hard and just missed her finger tips.

That would have been a really good catch.

  2. Brave 28-1published at 75 balls left

    Target 96

Sophie Ecclestone is on for the last five of the powerplay - and twice comes close to a wicket.

Firstly when Laura Wolvaardt plants her front right in front of the stumps and tries to lap sweep. It misses the bat and there's a big appeal for lbw... not given.

No review and that's a good decision because it missed the bat but came off the glove.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge then nails a sweep in the air to end the set. It's at a catchable height but Mahika Gaur isn't quite quick enough to react and the ball flies millimetres from her fingertips and away for four.

Laura Wolvaardt is strong off the mark. She gives herself that little bit of room and hits the line of the ball.

This is a good match up, these batters complement each other well.

  4. Brave 20-1published at 80 balls left

    Target 96

Slower ball from Mahika Gaur but too wide and that give Laura Wolvaardt the chance to free her arms and drive handsomely through the covers for four.

Four more! Drilled straight on mid-on this time. Great start for Wolvaardt against her former team.

The fielding so far has been good. It always counts if you have intensity from ball one.

Originals have come out with good energy, despite their situation.

  6. Brave 11-1published at 85 balls left

    Target 96

Good start from Deandra Dottin, just two from her first set, plus the wicket.

Laura Wolvaardt has joined Danni-Wyatt Hodge in the middle for Brave, while Mahika Gaur is back to bowl the next five for Originals.

Sophie Ecclestone was tall enough, just about. She thought it was going over her head.

It hit her wrist and then went into her hand. You can see that she cannot believe she almost dropped that.

    Bouchier c Ecclestone b Dottin 6 (Brave 11-1)

    Deandra Dottin strikes!

Maia Bouchier tries to hit the West Indies all-rounder over the top but doesn't get the required elevation.

The ball goes straight towards Sophie Ecclestone for what should be a straightforward catch just above her head. There's a bit of a juggle from the England star but she just about clings on.

    Renewed hope for the Originals?

Mahika Gaur is most effective as a new ball bowler. The swing and carry that she gets, it's better to use her at the start of the innings.

She is working on her death bowling, but this is where she strikes the most.

  10. Brave 9-0published at 90 balls left

    Target 96

Maia Bouchier is really targeting the leg-side early on and manages to hit over the in-field towards deep mid-wicket.

There's no timing on the shot, though, and it stops short of the rope so she has to settle for two.

Just nine from Mahika Gaur's first 10 balls but that'll do just fine for Southern Brave.

Players will have net run-rate in mind. Sometimes that factor really comes into play later in the tournament. You don't want to risk things, but you want to get the job done.

  12. Brave 4-0published at 95 balls left

    Target 96

Steady start from Mahika Gaur, just four singles from her first five and forcing a play and miss from Danni Wyatt-Hodge.

Some extra bounce for the tall fast bowler making it tricky for Wyatt-Hodge.

And Gaur will continue for another five balls.

Southern Brave are the clear favourites, according to WinViz. It's hard to argue with Originals only putting up 95.

Mahika Gaur is making her comeback after being out for a long time. She will be itching to make a statement. She has been in great rhythm in the Vitality Blast.

She will be the key bowler.

  15. Brave 1-0published at 99 balls left

Southern Brave are away first ball with a single for Maia Bouchier, clipped down to fine leg off left-arm seamer Mahika Gaur.

Here come the Manchester Originals. After an underwhelming display with the bat, they have it all to do in the field.

Southern Brave have a formidable batting line-up with England pair Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Maia Bouchier striding out to open.

After a brilliant three-wicket performance for Lauren Bell, she is now on 44 wickets from 33 innings in The Hundred - one wicket behind her former Brave teammate, Amanda-Jade Wellington, on 45 from the same number of matches.

  18. 'It was a team effort'published at 16:22 British Summer Time 6 August

Southern Brave bowler Lauren Bell: "It was a great performance from the whole team. Spinners did the job and I picked up the wickets. A team effort. I haven't been getting a lot swing recently but today it came back!"

On winning the toss: "We were happy to get out there as a team and hopefully the batters can come and take it down."

On advice for the batters: "It is a very tricky pitch. We will try to hit is hard along the floor the batters will do their job I'm sure."

    Thanks, Mike.

Well, Seren Smale has at least given Manchester Originals a glimmer of hope with her unbeaten 40 but you'd still back a loaded Southern Brave batting line-up to knock off these runs.

They still have to do it, though, and the chase will begin shortly.

A simple chase for Southern Brave?

You'd have thought so, but their batters may also struggle on this Old Trafford pitch.

Here's Sam Drury to see how they get on.
