That shot caught everyone off guard. Smale smoked it down the ground. She is punching back to the Brave.

  2. Originals 53-6published at 61 overs

    50 up - finally.

Seren Smale cracks Lauren Bell down the ground for four - only the fourth of the innings.

  3. Originals 49-6published at 60 balls

Tilly Corteen-Coleman returns for a third set.

Seren Smale edges her first delivery through third for a single, but Fi Morris can't score off the next four balls.

I have been so impressed with Southern Brave. Their fielding settings and their energy levels.

They look really up for it and have set the tone for the series. It is always difficult starting away from home but they have played incredibly.

  5. Originals 48-6published at 55 balls

Can you reverse your side's fortunes, Fi Morris?

The Manchester Originals number eight takes a first ball single into the covers.

Awesome work at extra cover from Danni Wyatt-Hodge. Alice Monaghan took a risk taking her on, it was a little bit greedy trying to make that.

Fi Morris is coming out to a really tricky spot.

Monaghan run out 6 (Ori 47-6)

    Oh dear.

Seren Smale tennis forehands a shot into the covers off Chloe Tryon and sets off.

There's never a run there, and Alice Monaghan is well short of Danni Wyatt-Hodge's throw into the keeper.

It's an increasingly dismal showing from the home side.

This needs to be a strong partnership and these two need to set it up nicely for Sophie Ecclestone to come in at the back of the innings.

Alice Monaghan is doing well to make twos happen.

  9. Originals 47-5published at 50 balls

The Originals batters take three singles off Sophie Devine before hurrying through a two out to mid-wicket.

A bit of hurry to make the crease... but safe.

  10. Originals 42-5published at 45 balls

Alice Monaghan is the latest Originals batter to drop into the frying pan.

She and Seren Smale take three singles from the remainder of Villiers' set.

Originals are in a real pickle. That was a soft dismissal, not really showing much intent. Just a soft punch back to the bowler.

    A nothing shot, really.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 41 balls

    Jones c & b Villiers 7 (Ori 39-5)

...or Originals can lose another wicket.

Eve Jones chips a simple catch back to Mady Villiers to become the latest home batter dismissed for single figures.

To say Southern Brave are in the ascendancy would be an understatement.

Southern Brave are bowling in good areas and are cutting the options away from the batters. It is great to see this young 17 year-old, Tilly Corteen-Coleman, making a big impact in front of such a big crowd.

  14. Originals 39-4published at 40 balls

Five singles plus a wide off Tilly Corteen-Coleman's second set of five deliveries.

Originals need a few more of these, stem the tide of wickets and then maybe can try some bigger hitting towards the end of the innings if they get that far.

  15. Originals 33-4published at 35 balls

Seren Smale joins Eve Jones at the crease and takes a single into the covers from her first ball.

Corteen-Coleman is going to bowl a second set...

Deandra Dottin was looking to take that on, but that slight bit of turn meant she lost her stump. You have to play a little bit smarter when you have already lost early wickets.

This is a real statement from Southern Brave.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 34 balls

    Dottin b Corteen-Coleman 8 (Ori 32-4)

    But Deandra Dottin goes now!

17-year-old spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman accounts for the West Indies veteran, beating her attempted sweep shot and rattling the stumps.

It's an ugly shot, and an increasingly ugly scoreline for Manchester Originals.

This pitch has pace and carry in it. And the outfield looks lightning speed today.

Originals need to make the most of that and get a big score on the board.

  19. Originals 31-3published at 30 balls

Manchester Originals aren't lacking in batting - the big-hitting Deandra Dottin comes to the crease at five.

The West Indian lashes Mady Villiers' second ball through the covers for four, then follows up with a pair of twos.

The second of those does see Dottin drop the ball just in front of Freya Kemp at mid-off, but she's safe on this occasion.

    Rufus Bullough
    CricViz analyst

Lauren Bell’s technical change and her ability to swing the ball away from right-hand batters (RHB), has turned her into a totally different bowler.

Across the 2022 and 2023 editions of The Hundred, she swung just 5% of balls away from the RHB. In the 2024 edition this rose to 26%. This summer for England she has swung 40% of balls away from the RHB.
