  1. Afg 186-6published at 37 overs

Gulbadin Naib is the new batter.

Four leg byes fly past Josh Inglis to end the over with precious runs for Afghanistan.

Two amazing things have been done here.

Josh Inglis, the way he recovered, and the second one, Spencer Johnson could have been at the other end, but he charged down and got to the stumps.

  3. wicket

Nabi run out (Johnson) 1 (Afg 182-6)

Yep, this innings is unravelling. More fine work from Spencer Johnson but it is sloppy from Nabi.

He's meandering down the pitch after Josh Inglis fumbles the ball behind the stumps, but fires it back to the bowler quickly and Johnson manages to get to the non-striker's end in time with Nabi well short of his ground.

    Disaster.

Australia are confident that they've run out Mohammad Nabi.

  5. Afg 178-5published at 36 overs

A couple of singles end a successful Adam Zampa over.

The spinner has 2-34 so far, and crucially for Steve Smith and Australia, still has four overs remaining.

Hashmatullah Shahidi has been put out of his own misery. He had no touch and couldn't find the middle of the bat.

Here comes Mohammad Nabi, a man who's seen it all before.

He will have to play a blinder if Afghanistan are going to post a really high score.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 35.4 overs

    Hashmatullah c Labuschagne b Zampa 20 (Afg 176-5)

    The skipper departs.

This may not be the worst result for Afghanistan however, as Hashmatullah Shahidi falls for a tortuous 20 from 49 balls.

He tries to attack Adam Zampa with a slog sweep but completely loses his shape, only able to top-edge it straight to Marnus Labuschagne at square leg.

    I'm not surprised.

Afghanistan needed something and it's the new batter, Azmatullah Omarzai.

Can that be the impetus to restart this innings?

  9. 6 runs

    Afg 175-4published at 35 overs

    Here we go!

Azmatullah Omarzai finally gets one away, hammering a fuller delivery from Matt Short over mid-wicket for six.

That was the first boundary for 33 balls.

Azmatullah Omarzai has been such a good player for them for such a long time - he needs a bit of a cameo.

The scoring rate has just started to plummet.

  11. Afg 166-4published at 34 overs

Considering their depleted bowling resources, this has been a brilliant passage of play from Australia.

Afghanistan have lost all their momentum.

You feel that Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain, is under the pump. He needs a boundary to relieve the pressure.

  13. Afg 162-4published at 33 overs

Another miserly Matt Short over concedes just a single.

Afghanistan need something quite special now. It's such a good pitch, you feel they need at least 300 somehow.

  14. Afg 161-4published at 32 overs

A wicket and just two runs from a brilliant Spencer Johnson over.

Azmatullah Omarzai was Afghanistan's hero with the ball against England, and they need him to step up with the bat here.

The skipper Hashmatullah is struggling to get going with 17 from 40 balls at the other end.

    A big wicket.

It just felt like something was about to give. The youngster, Sediqullah Atal sees a cover drive go straight to short cover.

Steve Smith is the man. That's a big wicket for Australia.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 31.2 overs

    Sediqullah c Smith b Johnson 85 (Afg 159-4)

Steve Smith turns to Spencer Johnson to break the partnership, and he delivers!

Just as Afghanistan were accelerating into the last 20 overs, Sediqullah Atal throws it away with a soft dismissal, driving to a diving Smith at cover.

A fine innings but he's fallen at a crucial time.

  17. Afg 159-3published at 31 overs

Just three singles off another tidy Matt Short over.

Afghanistan could probably be a little more proactive against him, as they have been to Zampa, having bowled five overs for just 10 so far.

Afghanistan have a beautiful launch pad for the last 20 overs.

This is the situation where Australia would normally have experienced bowling depths to go to.

  19. Afg 156-3published at 30 overs

    Oh, hello!

That lbw that Nathan Ellis was pleading for, by the way, would have pitched in line and hit middle stump.

A huge reprieve when Sediqullah was on 74. Steve Smith better avoid eye contact with his bowler for a while.

I like that a lot. Down the ground.

Adam Zampa over-pitching and Sediqullah Atal went down the line and straight over the sight screen - a lovely shot.
