    Tector b Zafar 7 (Ire 41-3)

Uh oh. Sound the upset alarm.

This is a lovely delivery from Saad Zafar, the left-arm spinner getting one to hold its line, but Harry Tector has played all around it, losing the top of middle stump.

Canada believe. Ireland are getting dragged into deep water.

There's an American PA announcer here at the ground in Eisenhower Park. He's not quite Michael Buffer, but is doing his best to ramp up the atmosphere inside the ground.

He described back-to-back sixes off Irish seamer Josh Little the other day as "two huge bombs". However, his razzamatazz is punctuated by explanations about aspects of cricket to any fans who might be here for the first time.

Harry Tector is the new man and almost involved in a mix-up with Tucker right away. It's nervy out there.

This is a very tame dismissal for Andrew Balbirnie.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.2 overs

    Balbirnie c&b Siddiqui 17 (Ire 32-2)

    Game on now!

It's soft from Andrew Balbirnie, just patting the ball back to leg-spinner Junaid Siddiqui. A nothing shot, caught between trying to go low and high.

    Ireland wobbling.

    Hugh Morris.

Lorcan Tucker is the new man, watching on as Balbirnie gets a gift he can tickle fine for four. 31-1 after six. Powerplay is Ireland's. Just.

Paul Stirling falls to put Ireland under pressure.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.4 overs

    Stirling c Movva b Gordon 9 (Ire 26-1)

It was coming. Paul Stirling's tricky knock is over, ended with a shot of frustration. It's a swipe at Jeremy Gordon, a leading edge straight up and into the gloves of the keeper. Canada will feel in this.

After the 2021 World Cup in Oman, Ireland have gone the opposite way. They go ultra-attacking now.

  15. Ire 26-0published at 5.3 overs

    Target 138

Gordon is having another one, finishing the powerplay. Stirling looks for a big heave and is fortunate to see the ball go over middle. Ireland will be pleased they haven't lost wickets, but they haven't got away, either. Stirling is struggling a touch, too.

Ireland are in-and-around where they need to be.

They are doing what they are not used to doing in the powerplay.

I'm WFH watching cricket on a Friday evening. It's taking every ounce of willpower not to have a beer, Mark.

I've often wondered if the BBC would allow a live text after a couple. You know, after the watershed. Maybe for an overseas Ashes Test or a world title fight in the early hours. My writing would be miles better.

There's still some popping in this pitch. It's better than the other day, but still occasionally naughty. Like a toddler trying to be good in the run-up to Christmas. Gordon has bowled tidily. He's bowling at about 82mph, but I reckon there could be another couple to add on to that.
