    Coad c Brown b Hampton 9 (Hants 249 v Yorks 121 & 272-9)

Brett Hampton charges in again and that's a loose shot by Ben Coad which costs him his wicket.

An airy waft results in a nick through to the keeper and Coad is disgusted with himself.

Last man Jack White walks out with Yorkshire leading by 144.

  2. 'What an innings from Lyth'published at 13:53 British Summer Time 6 April

    Hampshire 249 v Yorkshire 121 & 272-8

    Kevan James

Adam Lyth is delighted with that and so are the few Yorkshire supporters in the crowd.

What an innings that has bee. and that is his 38th career first-class hundered for the 37-year-old.

    Somerset 670-7 dec v Worcs 154 & 71-2

Lewis Gregory brings himself on straight after lunch and serves up a wide and full delivery which gets Kashif Ali going with a boundary through point.

Ali repeats the dose two balls later to move to 27.

Jack Leach continues after lunch and Ethan Brookes picks up a brace of twos and single to go to 19.

    Notts 421-6 v Durham 378

Matthew Potts lets out a roar of exasperation as his third ball after lunch almost brings a wicket.

He finds the edge of Matthew Montgomery's bat and it squirts low through between wicketkeeper and first slip.

It would have been a sensational catch. Montgomery survives.

Lyndon James is quickly into his stride as he crunches a half-volley through the covers to his first ball after the break.

It brings up the 100 stand off 136 balls.

    Warks 323-5 v Sussex 528

We are into the fifth over with the new ball at Edgbaston.

Ollie Robinson has bowled very well today with both wickets to fall.

But Sussex might be dwelling on the one he didn't get when Dan Mousley was dropped before he had scored.

Mousley and Ed Barnard look nicely settled.

Brett Hampton opens up for Hampshire after lunch and Adam Lyth eases his first ball down to third man for four.

The left-hander made five Championship centuries last summer and after digging out a well directed yorker, there's another one as he square cuts for another boundary.

It has taken Lyth 238 balls - and it's been an absolutely priceless effort for his side.

Off we go for the third afternoon at Chelmsford.

We have nine overs until the new ball but you do wonder whether Essex will bother given the way Simon Harmer is bowling.

  8. Mousley takes advantage of let-offpublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 6 April

    Warwickshire 320-5 v Sussex 528 - lunch

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

By lunch, Warwickshire were looking more comfortable after facing some jeopardy in the morning session.

Currently out of favour England bowler Ollie Robinson produced an impressive spell in the first hour, removing overnight century-maker Rob Yates along with Ethan Bamber.

He should also have had Dan Mousley for a duck but Tom Alsop spilled the slip chance.

Mousley has taken advantage of his escape to share in a stand of 69 so far with Ed Barnard and the pair looked untroubled in the few overs with the second new ball before the break.

  10. Time for Pears batters to 'step up'published at 13:27 British Summer Time 6 April

    Somerset 67-7 dec v Worcestershire 154 & 58-2 - lunch

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

After Tom Banton’s magnificent innings, the deficit is still a massive 458 and saving the game is a very tall order for Worcestershire.

Jack Leach has picked up a wicket already and is finding a little bit of turn. He and Archie Vaughan could have quite a lot of bowling to do as the innings progresses.

It’s surely a chance, though, for one or two of the Worcestershire batsmen to step up on what remains a pretty decent surface.

    Somerset 670-7 dec v Worcestershire 154 & 58-2 - lunch

Somerset batter Tom Banton will never forget this match after scoring 371 - the highest first-class score in Somerset's history, surpassing the 342 by Australia opener Justin Langer in 2006.

"It's a weird feeling and I was a bit emotional up there in the dressing room," he had said at the end of day two against Worcestershire.

"This is the best day I've had in cricket and will probably be the best day I'll ever have. It feels special and you cannot take it for granted.

"I won't lie, I was pretty tired out there and I kept saying to myself 'just keep batting, keep going'.

"There were a few moments when I felt I wanted to be back in the dressing room, but I wanted to go for it (the record) tonight, so I tried to play my shots when possible.

"It was also a great day for James Rew and it was special seeing him go about his work."

There is a family connection with Worcestershire as Tom went to Bromsgrove School and his brother Jacques was on the Pears' books in 2021 and 2022, making four limited-overs appearances.

New head coach Darren Lehmann made no attempt to spin or sugar-coat Northamptonshire's 145-run defeat by Kent at Wantage Road, the match lasting just half-an-hour on the third morning.

It's the first time Kent have won three consecutive Championship matches against Northamptonshire since the 1930s.

"We need to bat a lot better - simple as that," Lehmann told BBC Radio Northampton. "The batting was really disappointing and the boys need to take some accountability for that."

He also alluded to three second-innings dismissals of batters not offering a shot, adding: "Bats cost about £500 or something like that - you might as well use it!"

  14. Lunch at Derbypublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 6 April

    Derbyshire 391 v Gloucestershire 222 & 202-6

Gloucestershire have added 74 to their overnight score but crucially lost three wickets in the process, including Ben Charlesworth, who departed for 110.

The visitors are just 33 in front with Tom Price and Zaman Akhter together at lunch and Luis Reece has picked up a couple of wickets for Derbyshire to take his match total to eight.

  15. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 6 April

    Middlesex 260 & 78-3 v Lancashire 359

Ryan Higgins plays out the morning session's final over from Luke Wells and he and Max Holden have shared an unbroken stand of 71 to steady Middlesex after a shaky start to their second innings.

They were 7-3 as Tom Bailey ran through the top order with the new ball are now only 21 behind, with Holden following his first-innings 69 with 37 not out, and Higgins unbeaten on 29.

Australian Marcus Harris was the last to go for Lancashire earlier on, lbw to Zafar Gohar for 138, an innings featuring 21 fours.

  16. Lunch at Sophia Gardenspublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 6 April

    Glamorgan 229 & 40-4 v Leicestershire 427

A deadly spell by Ian Holland has put Leicestershire in position to try and force a three-day win in Cardiff.

The all-rounder has 3-15 from seven overs and Glamorgan also lost Colin Ingram to Ben Green before reaching lunch still 158 runs behind.

The Foxes only managed to add one run to their overnight 426-8, with Andy Gorvin removing Ben Cox (51) and Chris Wright (74) for figures of 4-51.

A lot of work for the Welsh county to do this afternoon.

  17. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 6 April

    Somerset 670-7 dec v Worcs 154 & 58-2.

Somerset will have to be patient to take 10 wickets on a pitch which is not offering much for the bowlers.

Tom Banton's dismissal for his epic 371 brought the declaration which Worcestershire were both desperate for and, perhaps, dreading.

Craig Overton made an early breakthrough to trap Gareth Roderick for six, and Jack Leach also pinned fellow opener Jake Libby on 16.

The Pears go to lunch still 458 behind with Kashif Ali (16) and Ethan Brookes (14).

  18. Lunch at Utilita Bowlpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 6 April

    Hampshire 249 v Yorkshire 121 & 255-8

Brad Wheal again finds the edge of Ben Coad's bat in the penultimate over of the morning but it doesn't carry to slip.

A handy morning for Hampshire, though, as they managed to pick up a couple of wickets after Yorkshire resumed on 189-6 - both of them claimed by Kyle Abbott.

Opening bat Adam Lyth is still there on 91 not out and but for him, this game could already have been over.

Yorkshire's lead is 127. One decent partnership could make this a testing chase for the home side.

  19. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 6 April

    Notts 413-6 v Durham 378

After a watchful start, the runs have started to flow at quite a pace for Nottinghamshire.

After losing nightwatchman Farhan Ahmed, Matt Montgomery (62*) and Lyndon James (55*) have hit contrasting half-centuries and taken the hosts past Durham's first innings total.

Notts have added 116 runs this morning for the loss of that solitary wicket.

The lead is up to 35 with four wickets in hand. Time for a breather.

Simon Harmer bowling for EssexImage source, Rex Features

Simon Harmer (who else?) has turned this game on its head with the wickets of Rory Burns, Dan Lawrence and Ryan Patel.

At one point the South African bowled six successive maidens.

But the Surrey troubles were really started by Jamie Smith having his off-stump uprooted by Shane Snater.

Ollie Pope's issues at getting started resurfaced as he was removed by Jamie Porter.

Surrey are in the hole and need Ben Foakes and the tail to dig them out of it.
