WICKETpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 6 April

    Taylor b Critchley 26 (Essex 582-6d v Surrey 356-9)

Matt Critchley gets one through James Taylor's defences and has his first wicket of the game to go with his century.

Taylor has done very well though to frustrate Essex.

Kemar Roach is the last man in - can he do the same or will we have some fun and games?

Great effort by Kiran Carlson, who reaches his century from 199 balls with a boundary off Tom Scriven.

He has so far put on 79 with Andy Gorvin, who took four wickets in Leicestershire's first innings.

The Welsh county are now 14 runs in front.

  3. 250 runs

250 up for Worcestershirepublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 6 April

    Somerset 670-7 dec v Worcs 154 & 250-4

Brett D'Oliveira is watchful and rock solid is he plays out a maiden to Jack Leach - his seventh.

Adam Hose then pushes Archie Vaughan into the offside for a single which brings up the 250.

A fine rearguard from this pair who have added 134.

Just 10 deliveries until the new ball.

  4. 'Hampshire made a few less mistakes'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 6 April

Hampshire beat Yorkshire by 5 wickets

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

I think both sides will look back at this game and say that there were mistakes made but in the end Hampshire made a few less.

They pick up 19 points and Yorkshire three and this game is over in the third day with 19 overs to go.

Hampshire go to the Oval on Friday, so a real stiff test that one.

  5. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 6 April

    Essex 582-6d v Surrey 356-8

More Surrey resistance brings a third successive 50 partnership, this time between Ben Foakes and James Taylor.

Foakes has 84 from 184 balls.

  6. Postpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 6 April

    Notts 579 v Durham 378 & 30-2

More fortune for Ben McKinney as he tries to drive Dillon Pennington, but drags the ball into the legside. Could easily have played on.

The Notts slip cordon are in full voice.

  7. 'This going to be a real test for Durham'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 6 April

    Notts 579 v Durham 378 & 29-2

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Now this is going to be a real test of what Durham are made of because they are two down and 172 behind.

Gay's got a pair and now are 20 overs to still go today, so Notts could could inflict a bit of damage this evening.

Durham just have to get somebody in the middle and baton down the hatches.

    Hampshire 249 & 148-5 v Yorkshire 121 & 275

    Ben BrownImage source, Rex Features

New Hampshire captain Ben Brown needs just one ball to finish things off with a sharp single after his powerful drive is prevented from reaching the boundary.

Hampshire will be happy to start the new campaign with a victory but it wasn't all plain sailing after Adam Lyth's 106 had enabled Yorkshire to set them a target of 148.

Three catches were put down by the White Rose and Tom Prest's 57 off 69 balls carried the home side to the brink of victory before he fell to Dom Bess, who took 3-52.

Hampshire now travel to The Oval to face Surrey on Friday, while Yorkshire will be at home to Worcestershire.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 6 April

    Prest b Bess 57 (Hants 147-5 - target 148)

    What a shame.

Having done so much to carry Hampshire towards their target, and with the scores level, Tom Prest makes room to cut a ball which is too close for the shot and is bowled.

He put on 61 for the fifth wicket with Liam Dawson.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 6 April

    Gay b O'Neill 0 (Notts 579 v Durham 378 & 29-2)

    Emilio Gay bags a pair.

Facing his second ball, Gay gets nowhere near the pitch of the ball and Fergus O'Neill takes out his off-stump.

Two wickets in three balls and a seventh of the match for the Aussie.

    This makes things interesting.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 6 April

    Hughes c Davies v Yates 33 (Warks 454 v Sussex 528 & 59-1)

    Warwickshire have one.

Dan Hughes goes for a full-blooded cut shot and home skipper Alex Davies pulls off a fine catch at slip.

The Sussex lead is 133 runs.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 6 April

    Lees lbw b O'Neill 17 (Notts 579 v Durham 378 & 29-1)

    Breakthrough at Trent Bridge!

A big wicket, too, as Alex Lees goes for 17, playing around a ball from Fergus O'Neill which kept low and struck him above the knee roll on his front pad.

Lees is not happy and drags himself off the pitch. Perhaps he thinks it was a little high?

It's a sixth wicket in the match for the Notts debutant.

Emilio Gay is in looking to avoid a pair.

  13. 'Hard work for Somerset'published at 17:09 British Summer Time 6 April

    Somerset 670-7 dec v Worcs 154 & 241-4

    Annie Chave
    BBC Somerset

It's hard work for Somerset out there, a bit of an echo of yesterday for Worcestershire at the moment.

But it's not unexpected. It's not an easy-paced pitch, it's sunny and good batting conditions. If you get in, you get in and these two have got in.

  14. 350 up for Surreypublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 6 April

    Essex 582-6d v Surrey 350-8

Essex have had Simon Harmer and Matt Critchley operating in tandem for a while now but Ben Foakes and James Taylor are dealing with it well.

Taylor is now on 22 and is edging closer to his highest first-class score of 31 not out.

  15. Postpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 6 April

    Notts 579 v Durham 378 & 29-0

Nervy moment for Ben McKinney as Dillon Pennington almost sneaks one through.

He somehow managed to jam the toe of the bat on a ball which kept very low.

Not the first time the ball has skidded through. Perhaps there is hope for the bowlers here.

The young batter is then squared up a little by the next two deliveries but keeps them out.

    Probing over. Maiden.

  16. 50 runs

for Tom Prestpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 6 April

    Hants 140-4 - target 148

Tom Prest has converted four of his five previous fifties into a century.

He won't be doing that today but an extra cover drive for four off Dom Bess takes him to 50 and he dabs the next away for another.

  17. Postpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 6 April

    Notts 579 v Durham 378 & 29-0

We've had a lengthy delay as the ground staff are given more chores.

This time they bring out a tamper to hammer away and flatten out a troublesome spot in the bowler's run-up.

Fergus O'Neill gets back to work and Alex Lees picks up two more.

Quiet start - just as Durham would have liked.

  18. 50 runs

50 up for Sussexpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 6 April

    Warks 454 v Sussex 528 & 50-0

Tom Haines and Dan Hughes jog through for a single and up comes the 50 for the opening partnership.

They were three wickets down at the same stage in the first innings so It's a good example of how they have got themselves back into this game.

    Sussex lead by 124 runs.

  19. 50 runs

for Ben Geddespublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 6 April

    Middx 260 & 228-4 v Lancs 359

Ben Geddes marks his Championship debut for Middlesex with a 95-ball half-century as he collects a couple of runs off Luke Wells.

In case you haven't followed his career to date closely, he is a Benedict - like Cumberbatch - and his middle names are Brodie and Albert.

Geddes has so far added 119 with Max Holden, who continues on his merry way on 118 not out.

  20. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 6 April

    Warks 454 v Sussex 528 & 45-0

Rob Yates comes on to bowl some spin for Warwickshire.

Let's just say this is a quiet period of play.

Half the Edgbaston crowd are in the sunshine wearing t-shirts while the other half are in the shade with coats and hats on.
