    Sussex 294 & 10-0 v Somerset 201

Sussex have stretched their lead out over 100 in the very early stages of their second innings.

That's in part because Josh Davey had an expensive first over, with nine coming from it.

This game has gone along at rapid rate of knots so let's see what afternoon session brings us.

  3. Postpublished at 22 overs

    Yorks 456 v Worcs 76-0

Nice start for Worcestershire after lunch as Jake Libby runs George Hill down to third man for four.

Yorkshire need to break this partnership before the two Pears openers can re-establish themselves following the break.

    Surrey 253 v Hants 97-4

  8. 'Brilliant Cook helps Essex see off tail'published at 13:21 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 347 v Essex 54-2

Sam Cook takes a wicket for EssexImage source, Rex Features

The tired Essex bowlers finally dismissed the Nottinghamshire’s tail leaving Kyle Verreynne undefeated with a splendid 128 not out in his team's total of 347.

In reply, Essex lost Charlie Allison for 11, LBW to the Aussie Ferguson O’Neill, while Brett Hutton also gained an LBW against Essex skipper Tom Westley, for five, just before lunch - the first ball of Hutton's spell.

Brilliant Sam Cook finished up with the best Essex figures of 4-44 off 25 overs, taking the last two Notts wickets, Critchley snared Farhan Ahmed at slip for a characterful 31 runs, before Cook rearranged Dillon Pennington’s stumps for a single run.

  9. 'Belated fightback from Glamorgan'published at 13:15 British Summer Time 12 April

    Gloucestershire 491-7 v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Glamorgan’s bowlers staged a belated fightback in cloudier conditions on the second morning as they limited the damage already caused on day one.

Timm van der Gugten dismissed nightwatchman Matt Taylor and fizzed one through the defences of Miles Hammond, who had reached an attractive fifty.

Gloucestershire reached four batting points with ease but gifted Glamorgan a second bowling point with the last ball of the 110 overs, when James Bracey was run out for 25 after a poor call by Graeme van Buuren.

Chris Dent played a bright cameo of 27 before being caught behind, but the Shire could still push well upwards of 500 to leave Glamorgan with a formidable task to save the follow-on and the game.

  10. 'Swings and roundabouts'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 12 April

    Sussex 294 v Somerset 201

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Yet more swings and roundabouts in what is developing into a fascinating game of cricket.

After the early loss of Tom Lammonby and Kasey Aldridge, Somerset fought back strongly through a partnership of 110 between Lewis Gregory and James Rew, which oozed positivity.

Gregory contributing his characteristic handsome drives, and James Rew looking as classy as any young batsman in the country, seeming to have all the time in the world to play his shots, of which he has every conceivable variety.

But after Gregory had chipped a catch to Jayden Seales, the fightback faded away, as Sean Hunt picked up Migael Pretorius and Jack Leach in successive deliveries, to pick up career-best figures of 5-48 and leave Rew high and dry on 80 not out.

  12. 'It's been Durham's session'published at 13:08 British Summer Time 12 April

    Durham 387 v Warwickshire 65-2

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

Durham looked in danger of going into lunch without having made any inroads in their defence of a decent but not huge total.

They had been frustrated at having two impassioned LBW appeals turned down and were guilty of dropping Rob Yates in the slip cordon.

But a moment of brilliance gave them their breakthrough. Emilio Gay clung on to a sensational catch intercepting a firmly struck cover drive to dismiss Alex Davies.

Daniel Hogg was the bowler who benefitted and in his next over he knocked over Hamza Shaikh’s middle stump to make it Durham’s session.

Earlier Warwickshire teenage spin bowler Taz Ali continued the promising start to his first class career taking two wickets in an over for the second time in the match to end Durham’s innings.

  13. Lunch at Headingleypublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 12 April

    Yorkshire 456 v Worcestershire 70-0

Unquestionably Worcestershire's morning at Headingley despite some big hitting by Jordan Thompson for the home side.

He made 70 off 58 balls as Yorkshire collected maximum batting points but they only added 31 for their final two wickets.

The White Rose have tried five bowlers so far - including a couple of overs from spinner Dom Bess - but have been unable to separate Worcestershire's opening pair.

Jake Libby and Gareth Roderick are both 32 not out at the interval.

  14. Lunch at the Ovalpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 97-4

A chastening session for Hampshire who have struggled for runs all morning in seaming and swinging conditions.

Just 42 added so far today.

Superb discipline from the Surrey bowlers to exploit the conditions and hopes of an innings lead will be growing.

  15. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 347 v Essex 54-2

Essex make it over the 50 mark at the interval but they are two down.

Charlie Allison and Tom Westley the men to depart without really getting going.

Paul Walter and Jordan Cox will be at the crease when we resume.

  16. Lunch at the Riversidepublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 12 April

    Durham 387 v Warwickshire 65-2

Sam Hain shoulders arms to the final ball before lunch with Warwickshire left to reflect on the loss of two wickets in the final overs leading up to the interval.

Durham added 45 to their overnight 343-7 with Ben McKinney's superb innings coming to an end on 153 and Matthew Potts making 70 as spinner Taz Ali returned figures of 4-66.

Alex Davies and Rob Yates experienced few major alarms in posting a stand of 57 in reply but Daniel Hogg's double strike means the Bears will have to regroup when play resumes this afternoon.

  17. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 12 April

    Lancs v Northants 454-7

Calvin Harrison batting for NorthantsImage source, Rex Features

Northants pass 450 in the 128th over with a reverse sweep by Calvin Harrison off Tom Hartley for two.

Harrison is back in the crease to tap Hartley away for one more to move to 32.

That's a 50 partnership with Lewis McManus off 121 balls.

McManus moves to 83 with a single to mid on and Harrison blocks.

That's lunch and Northants win this session of play, adding 99 runs for two wickets.

The wicket is offering little in the way of turn or movement and Lancashire will regret not batting first on winning the toss.

  18. 'Painful one for Ben Foakes'published at 12:59 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 - Hampshire 97-4

    Ben FoakesImage source, Rex Features

Keepers are tough as old boots, but Ben Foakes is struggling here. He's going to need the physio to take a look at his finger.

He's got his gloves back on and we'll get one more over in before lunch.

SOMERSET ALL OUT FOR 201published at 12:57 British Summer Time 12 April

    Sussex 294 v Somerset 201

Jack Leach is out first ball!

That's the end of the Somerset innings and Sean Hunt has five wickets.

Well, that all ended very quickly didn't it?

Only about 10-15 minutes ago the momentum was hugely with Somerset as James Rew and Lewis Gregory put on 110 for the eighth wicket.

And boy did they need that partnership because the last three wickets fell for 12 runs.

A strange morning session that seemed to be going Somerset's way but is now definitely Sussex in the driving seat with a lead of 93.

A mention of course for James Rew who batted superbly and ended not out on 80 from 83 balls - I've no doubt he would have got to a century had his partners kept their wickets intact.

  20. Postpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 97-4

Liam Dawson shoulders arms as he leaves a back of a length ball from Dan Worrall outside off stump.

Runs have been painfully hard to come by this morning as Worrall pushes the next ball out a bit wider and Dawson is not tempted for now.

Just 42 runs scored this morning for three wickets.

We have a pause in play as Ben Foakes is clearly feeling discomfort in one of his fingers, which is being taped up by the physio.
