Caleb Jewell was dropped by Peter Handscomb on his way to 50

Caleb Jewell has made a fine start to life at Derbyshire.

After a first class ton on his last appearance for Tasmania last month and half-centuries in either innings on debut against Gloucestershire last week, the 27-year-old Australian has made another against Leicestershire at Grace Road, it's just a shame for him that nobody can stay with him, though he too had a stroke of luck as he was put down in the slips by Peter Handscomb.

The good news is the deficit is down to 390, the bad news is his side have six first innings wickets remaining.

Stephen Eskinazi has nudged Middlesex's lead over Kent above 60 at Canterbury, with the visitors still two down in their second innings.

Graeme van Buuren is eyeing a 50, and his side Gloucestershire are eyeing 550, just ten runs shy with one wicket remaining against Glamorgan at Bristol.

    Roderick c Lyth b White 37 (Yorks 456 v Worcs 90-1)

    The breakthrough.

Gareth Roderick pushes forward to Jack White and a thick edge is safely taken by Adam Lyth at second slip.

Jake Libby is still 44 not out as he is joined by Kashif Ali.

  4. Postpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 134-6

Brett Hampton is off the mark with four runs off Kemar Roach, glancing off an inside edge to fine leg.

He has four more a couple of overs later, shaping to drive Roach into the off side and getting a thick inside edge through mid on.

    But they all count.

  5. Postpublished at 22.3 overs

    Durham 387 v Warwicks 90-2

Durham skipper Alex Lees wants the ball changed.

The umpires test it in the circumference measuring device and hand it back.

    'Sorry, Alex. Nothing doing.'

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 12 April

    Guthrie b Hartley 1 (Lancs v Northants 485-9)

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 12 April

    McManus c Bohannon b Wells 95 (Lancs v Northants 484-8)

He misses out on a century but a fine knock even so.

Lewis McManus swings hard and the miscued ball flies off the bat and into the hands of Josh Bohannon running in to mid off.

Luke Wells strikes and Liam Guthrie is in next.

Ben Foakes celebratesImage source, Rex Features

One ball after his reprieve, Ben Brown again nicks off and is caught by the Surrey keeper and Kemar Roach has his first wicket of the innings.

The ball kept a bit low and he's followed it outside the off stump.

    Brett Hampton to bat next.

  9. Postpublished at 20.4 overs

    Durham 387 v Warwicks 84-2

    Matthew PottsImage source, Rex Features

It's been a tight spell by Matthew Potts since lunch, testing out both Warwickshire batsmen.

But he gives Rob Yates too much width with that one and the left-hander square cuts for four.

He is now 35 not out.

  10. dropped catch

Ben Brown dropped on 0published at 14:06 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 118-5

Dom Sibley tumbles to his left with both hands to the ball and spills it.

Derbyshire are staring down the barrel at Grace Road, now 79-4 following Leicestershire's 484.

Brooke Guest has departed for a 25-ball duck, pinned LBW by Logan van Beek.

Gloucestershire have sailed past 500 at Bristol, now 515-8 after Tom Price was trapped for 21 against Glamorgan.

  12. Postpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 12 April

    Lancs v Northants 481-7

Luke Wells spears a ball leg side and Calvin Harrison can't quite connect with an attempted nudge round the corner.

He connects with the fourth ball though, pushing it to extra cover for one and now he has 42 runs to his name.

Harrison survives an appeal for caught behind in the next over as he goes forward to block Tom Hartley and gets a single next ball driven to extra cover.

Lewis McManus swings and misses and the ball runs away for four leg byes. He's on 94.

A bit of turn is evident now. Good news for the Red Rose spinners and the Northants spinners later on in the game.

  13. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 19.2 overs

    Durham 387 v Warwicks 80-2

    Gone.......no.

That should have been the maiden Championship wicket for Brendan Doggett, but Will Rhodes shells the slip chance offered by Sam Hain.

    How costly will that prove?

  14. Postpublished at 25.1 overs

    Yorks 456 v Worcs 84-0

Put it there and the odds are that Jake Libby will make you pay.

Short and wide from George Hill and the Worcestershire opener helps himself and moves into the 40s.

  15. 'Dawson looks very grumpy'published at 13:57 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 243 v Hampshire 113-5

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Matt Fisher celebrates the wicket of Liam DawsonImage source, Rex Features

Matt Fisher looks delighted, Liam Dawson looks very grumpy. He shaped to whip it down the leg side. He thinks that's going a long way down.

I wouldn't go near Dawson for at least an hour and a half.

It looks a good shout from Fisher. I think when Dawson sees it again he'll realise he's come across his stumps.

He walked off as if someone had stolen his favourite pen...

Fisher deserves that wicket. It's his first wicket at The Oval for Surrey.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 12 April

    Dawson LBW b Fisher 11 (Surrey 253 v Hants 113-5)

Liam Dawson shapes to work the ball leg side and is visibly surprised to be adjudged out LBW to Matt Fisher.

He's across his stumps, barely in front of the popping crease and that ball looked good for middle and leg.

He walks off with a little shake of the head and now captain and keeper Ben Brown will bat.

  17. Postpublished at 17.4 overs

    Durham 387 v Warwicks 78-2

The first loose delivery by Brendan Doggett is put away through mid-wicket for four by Rob Yates - perfect timing.

Three balls later, Doggett is too full again and this time it is Sam Hain who finds the boundary.

  18. Postpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 113-4

This feels like a different game.

Another brace of fours, this time off the bowling of Kemar Roach.

Tom Prest is forward, driving into the off side and he gets another four tickling a leg side ball away fine.

  19. Postpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 105-4

The lesser spotted boundary has been spotted at the Oval as Liam Dawson drives Matt Fisher down the ground for four.

The Hampshire 100 comes in 45.5 overs.

Four more driven down the ground. Riches indeed after a real grind in the morning session of play.

  20. Division Two updatepublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 12 April

Derbyshire lost skipper Wayne Madsen just before lunch, pinned LBW by Ben Green for 22, with his side now 57-3 427 runs adrift of hosts Leicestershire.

Big session incoming at Grace Road.

Middlesex's lead over Kent has crept up to 41 with Leus du Plooy and Stephen Eskinazi settling in together at Canterbury with their side now 37-2 in their second innings.

Graeme van Buuren is into the 30s as Gloucestershire are just four runs away from 500, with three wickets still in hand against Glamorgan at Bristol.
