  2. 'Sussex completely dominated session'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 12 April

    Sussex 294 & 140-0 v Somerset 201

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A session completely dominated by Sussex who have extended their first innings lead of 93 to 233

Openers Tom Haines and Daniel Hughes have both reached half-centuries and been largely untroubled on a pitch that has flattened out and offered little of the seam movement which was evident yesterday.

With another 32 overs tonight and two full days to go Sussex will want to bat Somerset out of the game before declaring, but will be mindful of leaving enough time to bowl Somerset out a second time

  3. Tea at Hovepublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 12 April

    Sussex 294 & 140-0 v Somerset 201

Well, that couldn't have been a much better session for Sussex.

Openers Daniel Hughes (66*) and Tom Haines (65*) have almost matched each other stride for stride and have been making the Somerset bowling attack toil.

It's only tea on day two but Sussex's lead is already 233 and they have all ten wickets in hand.

  4. 'Hampshire must keep Surrey within reach'published at 15:51 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 219

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Last night and for most of today Surrey kept the Hampshire batting quiet.

Relentless accuracy combined with a little consistent movement from the seamers made the batters watchful.

This afternoon though the picture changed. Tom Prest and Brett Hampton combined well together and a late cameo from Kyle Abbott saw Hampshire score 101 runs in an hour-and-a-half.

They ended 34 runs adrift on the first innings. They must not let Surrey get too far ahead in the second.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 43.5 overs

    Barnard c Lees b Doggett 12 (Durham 387 v Warwicks 157-6)

Brendan Doggett bangs one in short, Ed Barnard tries to pull but gets right underneath it and it is then a case of Alex Lees, at mid-wicket, having to wait for it to come back down before taking the catch.

Warwickshire in some trouble now as Michael Booth comes out at number eight.

  6. Postpublished at 43.1 overs

    Durham 387 v Warwicks 156-5

Half volley from Brendan Doggett and 20-year-old Kai Smith square drives for four. Superb shot by the young Warwickshire keeper.

  7. Postpublished at 48.2 over

    Yorks 456 v Worcs 124-6

You have to admire the sheer guts being shown by Worcestershire skipper Brett D'Oliveira in this innings.

He dislocated a thumb earlier on, we are told, had it put back in and is now out there trying to rescue his side from the prospect of having to follow on.

  8. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 12 April

    Lancs 30-1 v Northants 496

Solid start for Lancashire, albeit with the early loss of Michael Jones.

30 overs left in the days play and the deficit is 466 runs.

Keaton Jennings is 12 not out and Josh Bohannon has a single.

  9. Hampshire all out for 219published at 15:43 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 219

Dan Lawrence strikes in the second over of his spell to wrap up the Hampshire innings.

Kyle Abbott is late on a forward defensive and the ball strikes middle and leg. He departs for 37 off 27 balls.

Superb bowling from Surrey, who rarely conceded easy runs today.

Three wickets each for Dan Worrall and Jordan Clark while Lawrence chips in with 2-7.

The innings lead is 34. That's tea.

  10. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 12 April

    Lancs 30-1 v Northants 496

Northants skipper has given the ball to leg spinner Calvin Harrison for the first time in the innings.

His first ball in a Northants shirt is a bit too full and driven into the on side for one.

He's round the wicket to the left-handed Keaton Jennings who defends, bat firmly next to pad in the off side.

Another overpitched delivery is driven over the bowler's head for four.

Sam Hain will be disappointed with that.

Brendan Doggett has bowled some excellent deliveries but that wasn't one of them.

The Australian has his first Championship wicket, though, as Hain is caught behind down the leg side.

The home side well on top now as young Kai Smith comes to the crease.

  12. 'This game is boiling up nicely'published at 15:38 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hampshire 219-9

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's boiling up to be a very interesting game of cricket, this.

The Surrey lead is 34 runs. Hampshire have one wicket remaining.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 12 April

    Wheal c Lawrence b Clark 6 (Surrey 253 v Hants 219-9)

Brad Wheal drives on the front foot and edges to Dan Lawrence at backward point!

Jordan Clark has his third wicket and Sonny Baker is in at 11 for Hampshire.

    34 behind.

  14. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 12 April

    Lancs 23-1 v Northants 496

    Maiden over from Justin Broad.

Raphy Weatherall is into his second over at the other end and some loose, leg side balls are well taken by Lewis McManus behind the stumps.

The over rate has been excellent today and we'll get a couple more overs in before tea.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Tom Hainespublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 12 April

    Sussex 294 & 119-0 v Somerset 201

Tom Haines joins batting partner Daniel Hughes in reaching 50.

Sussex's lead is 212 and Somerset seemingly have no answer to the hosts at present.

  16. 6 runs

Abbott hits the jackpotpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 214-8

Goodness me! Has he got a train to catch?

Short from Jordan Clark and Abbott flays the ball over square leg, bat rising up in the air like a periscope.

Who said batting was hard? Well, I did actually.

  17. 'Farhan Ahmed has got his reward'published at 15:26 British Summer Time 12 April

    Notts 347 v Essex 171-3

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Farhan Ahmed takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Paul Walter has gone. That's huge credit to the young man. The off-spinner Farhan Ahmed has not bowled badly, he's been hit into the Fox Road stand a few times but he's persevered and bowled in the right areas,

Walter made a valiant 95 last week and goes for 76 today.

Attitude is everything. In this situation, as a young spinner, it's very difficult with small boundaries, big bats, a 17-year-old fella with very little experience - I'm dead chuffed for him.

He deserves that wicket for being resilient, determined and full of character.

  18. Hampshire sail past 200published at 15:25 British Summer Time 12 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 208-8

Three fours in the over for Kyle Abbott, facing Matt Fisher.

He goes back and across to lash the bowler through cover, repeats the shot next ball and plays it again two balls later.

The innings 200 arrives in 65.2 overs. 45 behind.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 38.5 overs

    Mousley lbw Rhodes 24 (Durham 387 v Warwicks 138-4)

Alex Lees decides to give Will Rhodes his first over of the match and what an inspired change it is.

His fifth delivery ducks into Dan Mousley off the pitch and the left-hander is plum in front.

That is Rhodes' first wicket at the Riverside since his winter move from today's opponents.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 41.4 overs

    Walter c Clarke b Ahmed 76 (Essex 171-3 v Notts 347)

Paul Walter has gone and it's Farhan Ahmed who makes the breakthrough!

Walter decided to go after the young spinner and clubbed him for a six followed by a four.

He tried to go big again with the next ball but gets his timing wrong and it pops up really nicely to Joe Clarke - who is the only slip in place - to pouch it.

Walter made 95 last week and 76 today so he's been batting well but he might be disappointed to have given away his wicket like that and miss out on another opportunity to convert a 50 into a century.
