  2. Postpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 189-6

Ben Brown picks up two through mid-wicket off Jack Carson to advance to 54 and he holds the key to a competitive total for Hampshire here.

Quite what a competitive total would be is hard to say on this pitch where several deliveries have stuck in the pitch and made batting very hard work - against the short ball in particular.

James Coles will bowl the last over before tea.

  3. Play resumes at Northamptonpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 8 September

    Northants v Glamorgan 231-5

Chris Cooke will be on strike first up facing Justin Broad from the David Capel End.

  4. Tea at Grace Roadpublished at 64 overs

    Leicestershire v Gloucestershire 230-4

A similar session to the first one at Grace Road as Gloucestershire add 101 runs for the loss of two wickets.

Having resumed on 129-2, they lost Ben Charlesworth, who was bowled by a good one from Chris Wright for 74.

And Miles Hammond followed for exactly 50 when he became Josh Hull's third victim of the day, caught at square leg.

Four singles off Rishi Patel end the afternoon and James Bracey (36*) and Graeme van Buuren (22*) have so far added 48 in tandem.

    Worrall b Booth - Surrey 246 v Warwickshire

    Michael BoothImage source, Rex Features

Two in two balls for Michael Booth who bends his back and absolutely cleans up Dan Worrall, clattering the top of the stumps and the bails sending the ball flying into the sky.

Ryan Patel is stranded on 72* from 67 balls.

No batting points for Surrey. Rare.

A Surrey collapse of 84-7 either side of lunch gave Warwickshire all the momentum this afternoon and the visitors have finished off their work in pretty short order.

Still 36 overs to come after tea. This game is on fast forward, where will Bears be come stumps?

  6. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 179-6

James Fuller sweeps off spinner Jack Carson square for one and Ben Brown clips to square eg for one more.

The next ball is nearly steered to Oli Carter at forward short leg but it lands safely. Might have been pad only in fact.

Three overs left in the session before tea.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 8 September

    Fisher lbw b Booth 18 - Surrey 246-9 v Warwickshire

The stand is broken. Bears have a third bowling point. Michael Booth gets Matt Fisher absolutely plumb infront.

Dan Worrall joins Ryan Patel (72* from 67 balls) needing four runs for a batting point.

  8. 'Brown has held the innings together'published at 15:31 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 170-6

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Radio Sussex

Ben Brown has been doing it in singles but it doesn't matter how he's got there, he's still there leading the way.

The only batter to get to 50 today and face 100 balls.

It's been him holding the innings together.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Ben Brownpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 170-6

His fourth score of 50 or more this season - and how timely was this?

He also has two centuries and is averaging nearly 50 this season.

He reaches the landmark with a deft clip to fine lg for one off the bowling of Jack Carson.

A battling effort on a pitch that has offered turn, a bit of irregular bounce and seam movement.

    105 balls with five fours.

  10. 50 stand for Surreypublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 8 September

    Surrey 238-8 v Warwickshire

The ninth-wicket pair of Ryan Patel and Matt Fisher have added 50 runs from just 73 balls as the hosts close-in on a bonus point.

From looking like being skittled for sub-200, to thinking 300 might be a possibility, that's Surrey for you...

  11. Postpublished at 62 overs

    Leics v Glos 221-4

After 61 overs of seam, Leicestershire summon Rishi Patel to try his luck with a bit of off-spin.

He has been working hard on his bowling apparently, but only has two first-class wickets to his credit.

He gets away with a full toss to James Bracey and there are just a couple from it.

  12. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 168-6

A teasing line and length from James Coles as James Fuller drives and misses outside off.

The last ball of the over misses bat, stump and keeper to fizz away for four byes.

That turned sharply after drifting into the bat.

At the other end, Ben Brown sweeps off spinner Jack Carson square for one to move to 49.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 8 September

    Compton c Hurst b Stanley 77 - Kent 217-4 v Lancashire

Mitch Stanley has another for Lancashire, and it's a priceless one as the nuggety Ben Compton is caught behind by Matty Hurst for 77, with two wickets falling in quick succession with Tom Hartley also cleaning-up Tawanda Muyeye for 48.

Ekansh Singh and Joey Evison are the new batters at the crease at Canterbury.

  14. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 8 September

    Northants v Glamorgan 231-5

Asa Tribe and Chris Cooke see Glamorgan through to tea with a more than respectable score and an unbroken partnership of 67.

Tribe is unbeaten on 120 with Cooke on 35 as Glamorgan remain handily placed for promotion to the top flight next season.

  15. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 8 September

    Essex v Durham 240-3

Essex came back with a couple of quick wickets after lunch, Simon Harmer ousting Alex Lees for 94 and then David Bedingham needlessly running himself out for a golden duck, however the day belongs to Ben McKinney.

He brought up a 156-ball century with a huge six off Harmer, who had claimed a caught & bowled wicket off an obvious bump ball shortly earlier, and has dragged Durham within 10 runs of a bonus batting point at tea.

Essex need him out, and soon.

Colin Ackermann remains there on 13* at the break.

  16. Postpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 157-6

James Fuller sees out the rest of the over and we have spin at both ends with slow left arm bowler James Coles coming on to bowl.

Ben Brown defends down the pitch.

The fifth ball is on leg stump and pushed to mid on for one.

Fuller waits for a well-flighted delivery and pushes it safely into the off side for no run.

  17. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 8 September

    Surrey 227-8 v Warwickshire

Fine pull shot from Ryan Patel, using the pace of Michael Booth to pull away towards the deep midwicket boundary - his ninth.

    He has a run-a-ball 57*.

  18. 'Hampshire need captain's innings'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 8 September

  19. 'It's been a tough day batting for Hampshire'published at 15:14 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 156-6

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Radio Sussex

That's the end of Bjorn Fortuin and the wickets keep coming at regular intervals for this Sussex side.

It's been a tough day batting for Hampshire and it's not getting any easier.

  20. Postpublished at 59 overs

    Leics v Glos 210-4

James Bracey drives back down the pitch and hits the stumps at the bowler's end.

Did Logan van Beek get a touch in his follow through? Probably not, judging by his lack of reaction, but Graeme van Buuren's bat was grounded in any event.
