De Klerk is down on her knees. It's been a highly accurate spell and you could see the look the faces of the South Africa fielders as that ball looped up into the leg side.

    That could have been dangerous.

A couple of half chances for South Africa as Nadine de Klerk causes a few problems.

A leading edge from Nat Sciver-Brunt's bat falls just short of the fielder at mid on, then later in the over the England all-rounder works the ball to leg but it falls just short of diving Chloe Tryon at a short mid-wicket.

South Africa searching for wickets. A long way to go in this game.

Heather Knight has looked fairly unflappable so far and seems to be settling in nicely for a long spell at the crease. She calmly works Tumi Sekhukhune into the leg side for a single.

Bowlers are allowed to bowl well. That's what South Africa did well yesterday, they waited for the bad ball.

England might be waiting for the spinners, they know they're more inconsistent.

  5. Eng 44-2published at 21 overs

Heather Knight is a picture of concentration as she cautiously navigates the back end of a Nadine de Klerk over after Nat Sciver-Brunt gets herself off the mark with nudge to point.

It's the result of really good bowling, good pressure. Full credit to Tumi Sekhukhune and also Nadine de Klerk, who have fought hard and managed to get the breakthrough.

  7. Eng 43-2published at 20 overs

Those three maidens had cranked up the pressure on England. This could be a tricky period for them to negotiate. Anyway, Nat Sciver-Brunt has joined Heather Knight at the crease.

Sometimes you just have to accept that you've had a good one. Tammy Beaumont is trapped on the crease.

We've been talking about how she can be vulnerable to the lbw and she's been hit on the back pad trying to defend.

    Beaumont lbw b Sekhukhune 12 (Eng 42-1)

    That looks absolutely plumb.

Tammy Beaumont plants that front pad of hers in front of the stumps and a delivery from Tumi Sekhukhune jags in and stays low as the England opener attempts to defend.

A hint of swing for Sekhukhune, too. A smart piece of bowling.

It's been good from South Africa so far. Nadine de Klerk's first over was a bit of a loosener but since then, she's settled in nicely.

  11. Eng 40-1published at 19 overs

Six dots from Nadine de Klerk makes it three consecutive maidens for South Africa as they attempt to apply some pressure.

This feels like a key period for to Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight to get through.

That's not ideal for South Africa, they're already behind in this Test match.

Tazmin Brits is on the field for South Africa instead of Ayanda Hlubi and Marizanne Kapp is unlikely to bowl due to a shoulder issue. That would be two real losses, the two opening bowlers for South Africa.

  14. Eng 40-1published at 18 overs

Tumi Sekhukhune is probing outside Tammy Beaumont's off stump.

The England opener has a bit of an uncontrolled waft at a wider one from Sekhukhune but is unable to make contact and reverts to some stout defence to end the over.

    Another maiden.

Nadine de Klerk always looks up for the fight - there's a lot of hustle and bustle.

Nadine De Klerk is starting to get picked up in franchises, she played for the Blaze over here and was brilliant for them - wholehearted. She got a WPL deal at the weekend too.

  17. Eng 40-1published at 17 overs

    Lead by 154 runs

After a wayward first over Nadine de Klerk is on the money and England skipper Heather Knight sees off a maiden from the South Africa seamer.

England will be looking to bat for the majority of the day and will hope to be in a position to have an hour at the South African openers this evening.

The highest successful fourth-innings run chase in women's Test cricket is just 198 (Aus v Eng, Sydney 2011). England will be hoping to set a total well in excess of 350 from this position.

  19. Eng 39-1published at 16 overs

Tumi Sekhukhune starts from the other end and it is a tidy over from the South Africa seamer.

Much better control and just a single from it.

The way England have come out and batted this morning is very different to last night.

Seven off the over, it'll be exciting if they carry on like that.
