At one point yesterday we thought it could play out into a draw but things shifted quickly. For England, they will feel firmly in control now, it'll just be about the number of runs they want to set South Africa - and the time as well.

Nadine de Klerk starts with a rather unthreatening over as she attempts to settle into an early rhythm at the Mangaung Oval.

A couple of freebies on the pads of Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont are comfortably worked into the leg side.

Knight ends the over with a crunching drive through the covers, punishing a delivery which was slightly over pitched by De Klerk.

Seven runs off the first over is a very handy start.

I would love to see England go out and be aggressive then have a pop with the ball at South Africa tonight. That would be their best chance of forcing a result.

I think they will force a result and the have to. They haven't won a Test match for a decade and they have to find a way to win before going over to The Ashes.

South Africa's players are flipping up their collars, putting on their shades and adjusting their floppy sun hats as they prepare to enter the field.

Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont, meanwhile, are going through some last-minute stretches.

Play will commence in a couple of minutes.

The sun is cracking the flags in Bloemfontein at the moment, with the Mangaung Oval bathed in glorious sunshine. Play was interrupted by lightning strikes yesterday but we are set fare for the whole of day four.

A chance for England's batters to make hay.

The pitch is showing signs of deteriorating and Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight had to negotiate some uneven bounce at the end of the day.

England's healthy lead puts them in a commanding position, though a forecast for wet weather on day four could force them to move the game along at a quicker rate today.

England's men might have wrapped up their 2024 with a thumping defeat at the hands of New Zealand but the year is not quite done for the women's side.

We're finely poised with two days left of an intriguing one-off Test match against South Africa.

A disciplined bowling performance - spearheaded by Lauren Bell - then some gritty batting before the close yesterday put England in a strong position but there could be plenty of twists and turns yet.

Welcome to live text commentary of day three from Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
