Summary

  1. SA 64-8published at 19.1 overs

Tumi Sekhukhune gets in on the act, and pulls Sophie Ecclestone across the line for four.

Given the match situation the injured Ayanda Hlubi is unlikely to bat so one more wicket will do it for England by the looks of things.

  3. SA 59-8published at 19 overs

Nonkululeko Mlaba square drives Ryana MacDonald-Gay for four to get South Africa beyond the the fourth innings 50 made by the Netherlands in 2007.

Mlaba follows it up with two more boundaries - a smash down the ground and a rather fortunate slash through third.

Sophie Ecclestone is just getting better and better. She didn't have the best T20 World Cup, she'd didn't get the wickets or have the economy that she would have liked.

But she's come back, got a little fitter, worked on her game and to be able to bowl 25 overs in a day in the first innings is remarkable in itself, then to go at only 1.6 an over...

    She's just so good.

  5. SA 46-8published at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2024

Nonkululeko Mlaba slaps Sophie Ecclestone across the line to pick up a couple of runs after drinks. South Africa still need two more runs to ensure they are not the unwanted owners of the lowest fourth-innings total in women's Tests.

The best thing about the catch from Tammy Beaumont is the way she transfers her weight to get forward and take the catch low down.

    That's a stunner from Beaumont.

Take away all the controversy of the day, Tammy Beaumont is fielding very well there.

And look at Sophie Ecclestone's figures - two wickets for no runs!

    Kapp c Beaumont b Ecclestone 21 (SA 44-8)

A superb catch from Tammy Beaumont at silly point!

Marizanne Kapp pokes forward at a delivery outside off stump from Sophie Ecclestone and Beaumont, under the helmet, dives forward and manages to scoop her hands under the ball.

    Absolutely ruthless from England.

South Africa will feel a massive sense of injustice for the Annerie Dercksen wicket - especially in the way Laura Wolvaardt was dismissed yesterday.

  11. SA 44-7published at 17 overs

Tumi Sekhukhune with a bat pad off Lauren Bell to Tammy Beaumont at short leg, and there's an England appeal. It's turned down, and there's no pressure to send this one upstairs.

A couple of balls later, Bell strikes Sekhukhune on the pad and England ask the question again.

    Not out is the verdict.

It's that consistency that Lauren Bell has been able to find in this Test match. She's bowled pretty straight and that's why she's been able to take the wickets.

It's great to see after the struggles she has had changing her action.

Bell is bowling beautifully, South Africa are 44-7 and it's all falling apart.

It has all got an awkward feeling about it now.

  16. wicket

    Jafta lbw b Bell 0 (SA 44-7)

    Start the car.

While the furore about Annerie Dercksen's dismissal rumbles on Lauren Bell is producing a fine spell of bowling on this pitch.

Full and straight from Bell and she strikes Sinalo Jafta on the pads as the South Africa wicketkeeper plays across the line.

England on course to wrap this up inside three days.

The only reason the umpires should have sent it up to the third umpire is to check if it was a clean catch.

But that was never in doubt.

The underlying thing is that Cricket South Africa are going to massively regret not having DRS because it exposes everyone.

Unfortunately for South Africa, they have been on the wrong end of all these decisions.

It does come down to the fact that South Africa didn't want to fork out for DRS. But it is nothing to do with the coaching staff or Laura Wolvaardt, they've been hard done by.

The inconsistency is the frustration, I think.

  19. SA 44-6published at 14.4 overs

I think we're in 'release a transcript of the VAR dialogue' territory regarding this Annerie Dercksen dismissal.

That dismissal of Dercksen does not seam reasonable. The TV replays were inconclusive. What question did the field umpire have to the TV umpire?
