Bumrah has hit a good length with 83% of his deliveries in this match. This is the highest of any seamer in any match so far in this series. Siraj is backing this up with 80%, the second highest in the series.

India had a chance to nip this Jamie Smith innings in the bud with that dropped catch earlier. I wonder how costly it's going to be for them.

Even though they've seen off Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Chris Woakes in the opening 50 minutes, India will be dwelling on that KL Rahul drop with Jamie Smith on five.

He times a lovely drive through the covers for four.

After the ball change, he finishes the over with a second boundary, flicking Mohammed Siraj fine for four.

  5. Eng 287-7published at 90.4 overs

India ask for the ball to be changed and the umpires agree. Cue a lengthy pause as a replacement is sourced with no urgency.

Plenty happening for the bowlers. Looks like a good English wicket. England have enough already.

310 has to be the magic score from here, given the lift of Archer back and Woakes’ figures on this ground it should be more than competitive.

Brydon Carse gets off the mark with a four, putting away a rare poor delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. The ball whistled through point.

Washington Sundar, racing around the rope, denies Carse a second boundary.

Bumrah's five-for celebrations are on ice for the time being.

These two need to plan how they take this on. They need a bit of clarity here.

This was just the start we didn't want. Great bowling but you wonder whether we have anyone who could do the same as Bumrah? We lack a game changer.

It is the first time someone has taken out a team's fourth, fifth and sixth batter in the same innings at Lord's since Australian fast bowler Ted McDonald in 1921, and the only other time before that was England's Tom Richardson in 1896 against Australia.

  11. Eng 274-7published at 89 overs

    Another life for Jamie Smith!

He nearly chops onto his stumps and kicks out his right leg in a desperate attempt to divert the ball away from danger. He misses by a mile but to England's relief, the ball lands safely. Mohammed Siraj rearranges the bails.

Brydon Carse finishes the over by charging at Siraj and attempting to heave him down the ground. He doesn't connect but England collect two byes.

Definitely old school feel here ..Root gets a century then a collapse.

Bumrah is displaying an early reminder this morning of his ability to seam the ball both ways. In his first 12 balls today he has jagged one back into right-handed Root with 1.4º movement, and then the ball that dismissed Stokes nipped back into the left-hander with 1.1º.

And the one that got Root nipped back in 1.2º.
