Summary

  1. 50 runs

50 for Carlsonpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 97-4

And there it is for Kiran Carlson.

A seventh time past 50 for Carlson this season. He's only converted one of those though.

A rather flukey way to reach the milestone as he chases a wide one and inside edges just past his own stumps.

  2. ouch!

Bohannon wears one for Lancashirepublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 9 September

    Durham v Lancs 13-1

Matt Potts bowls over the wicket to Josh Bohannon, who defends into point.

Potts drops short and Bohannon gets into a mess with a ball shot as the ball strikes him on the mid riff.

    An awkward, skidding delivery.

The next delivery is full and smashed through cover for four.

  3. Play resumes at Hovepublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 91-4

Tom Clark takes the ball after lunch and begins with a tidy over. Just a pair of two from Ben Kellaway.

That will mean Kiran Carlson will take the strike in the next over...he's on 48.

  4. Play resumes at Northamptonpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 9 September

    Northants 75-5 v Derbys

Lewis McManus will take guard first up this afternoon, facing Harry Moore.

McManus is on eight and Saif Zaib is at the other end on 13.

  5. Play resumes at Lord'spublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 117-2 v Gloucs

Leus du Plooy will face the first ball of the session, to be bowled by Zaman Akhter.

Du Plooy has looked a bit jittery at times but survived the morning session on 20.

Max Holden is at the other end on 49.

  6. Testing times for Lancashire at Riversidepublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 9 September

    Durham v Lancs 9-1

Keaton Jennings defends Ben Raine down the pitch and then gets off the mark with a push through cover for two.

Plenty of pressure on the Lancashire captain after the loss of opening partner Luke Wells to the first ball of the match.

Matt Potts is getting the ball to shape away from Josh Bohannon at the other end.

He gets one to move the other way but the LBW shout is turned down. Close but maybe a tad high. Maiden over.

Have you ever seen a field like this?

At one point this morning, Ollie Robinson had all 10 of his fielders pretty much behind the wicket!

  8. Under way at Canterburypublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 9 September

Two and a half hours later than expected, Charlie Stobo delivers the first ball of this match.

Transfer windows are perfect for county cricket in my opinion, make it the whole off-season. The only exceptions should be player loans between counties for players under 20. Signing an overseas international for one match is ludicrous. In an age of growing the game and improved player pathway, we need teams using the youngsters in the circuit.

  11. wicket

WICKET Wells c Robinson b Raine 0published at 12:53 British Summer Time 9 September

    Durham v Lancashire 0-1

Another early wicket! First ball at that. Something in the bowlers' water today.

Lancashire really need something from this match in their battle for Division One survival - and they've made the worst possible start.

Durham far from safe either but they're in first-ball dreamland as Lancs opener Luke Wells edges Ben Raine behind to wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson.

If Somerset have made a decent start in a game they must win to have any chance of overhauling Surrey at the top of the Championship table, then Archie Vaughan has made a memorable one.

Pitched in to opening the innings against Surrey’s international attack, he has shown technique and temperament of the highest order in reaching lunch on 44.

Surrey’s one-game import, Shakib al Hasan, has bowled 12 tidy overs without so far getting much help from the pitch for his left-arm spin.

  13. Sussex's session on the south coastpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 91-4

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

It’s been Sussex’s first session after a good toss to win for the Division Two leaders in grey and chilly conditions on the coast, with two wickets each for Indian star Jaydev Unadkat and for Henry Crocombe.

Unadkat had rookie Asa Tribe caught at short-leg and then produced a jaffa of an inswinger to bowl Sam Northeast for nine, as Ollie Robinson bowled a mean opening spell to keep the pressure on.

Kiran Carlson and Colin Ingram put together a half-century stand before Crocombe got one through Ingram’s gate for 27 and had Billy Root edging to slip.

Carlson looked relatively safe but was put down off a difficult chance at short-leg off Unadkat before he survived to lunch in the company of young all-rounder Ben Kellaway, playing just his fourth first-class match.

  14. Toss at Canterburypublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 9 September

    Kent v Hampshire - 13:00 BST start

The clear-up is almost complete and play is around the corner. Play will start at 13:00 BST, with 75 overs left in the day.

Kent have won the toss and chosen to bat first - with Joe Denly back after three months of knee trouble sustained in the T20 Blast. Jas Singh also comes in.

For Hampshire, John Turner is now with England so Brad Wheal enters.

  15. Durham win toss and bowlpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 9 September

    Durham v Lancashire

We're finally about to get some cricket at Chester-le-Street where Durham have put their visitors in to bat after a drizzly morning has finally given way to a dry spell.

It really doesn't bother me that Surrey have signed Shakib just for this match, it's a good test for the Somerset batters, however it's a shame that Surrey have made it clear that they have no interest in promoting players from their academy, surely that should be much more of a priority?

  18. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 117-2 v Gloucs

Max Holden defends Singh-Dale to mid off and leaves the last ball of the morning outside off stump.

He'll remain on 49 going into lunch. Leus Du Plooy is on 20.

An entertaining session of play ends well for Middlesex, who have scored at a healthy rate after being put in this morning.

Sam Robson was bowled in the first ball of the match by Singh-Dale, while his opening partner Mark Stoneman was caught by keeper James Bracey via a micued pull.

Archie Bailey on debut bowled with good skill and pace this morning but has fallen just short of a maiden Championship wicket in the session as the edges didn't quite carry.

  19. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 9 September

    Essex 40-1 v Notts

A shortened morning session, just 50 minutes of play, ends at Chelmsford.

Rain delayed the start and both sides will have reason to be pleased with their starts.

Robin Das has looked composed for his 14no - but Nottinghamshire did the claim the wicket of his fellow opener, Dean Elgar, through Haseeb Hameed's catch.

  20. Lunch at Hovepublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 91-4

Another good morning and another point towards promotion for Sussex.

Two wickets for Jaydev Unadkat, two wickets for Henry Crocombe.

Kiran Carlson and Colin Ingram put on 51 for Glamorgan before the latter fell, with the former unbeaten on 48 at the interval.
