@Simon Mahon (11:12), even when that Sunday 3rd XI loses 8 players to the national team and their oppo also brings in a player for one round?

  2. wicket

WICKET Kashif Ali c Burgess b Barnard 16published at 11:32 British Summer Time 9 September

    Worcestershire 45-2 v Warwickshire

Worcestershire lose a second wicket - as former Pears allrounder Ed Barnard strikes in only his third over.

Just as Kashif Ali was looking comfortable, he edges behind to bring a second catch for Warwickshire wicketkeeper Michael Burgess.

A nice way to begin for Barnard after the shock of being left out of Friday night's T20 Blast flop.

New man in is Bears old boy Ethan Brookes, bumped up the batting order to number four in place of Rob Jones.

Gareth Roderick is still there after a steady 11 from 41 balls.

  3. wicket

WICKET: Trevaskis lbw b Fisher 4published at 11:30 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 15-7 v Yorks

But Matt Fisher then goes round the wicket and gets his man!

Full and swinging in, Liam Trevaskis falls over to the off side, misses with a flick to leg and is struck low on the pad to be lbw.

Two wickets in the over for Fisher.

  4. Postpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 65-1 v Gloucs

Mark Stoneman is in the mood here.

He moves to a run-a-ball 42 with successive fours off Tom Price, pulling the bowler square and pushing through cover off the back foot.

Making it look easy. It's not.

  5. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 15-6 v Yorks

Leicestershire can at least breathe a little sigh of relief.

Liam Trevaskis clips his first ball through square leg for four and the Foxes go past the lowest Championship total in history of 12, by Northamptonshire.

But their own lowest is 25 so still work to do.

  6. Postpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 9 September

    Northants 32-2 v Derbys

Middlesex loan player Martin Andersson is in the attack for Derbyshire - and the last ball of his first over is short and slapped through point for four runs.

Northants are ever so gently getting a foothold in this game after the early wickets of Prithvi Shaw and Luke Procter.

  7. wicket

WICKET: Rahane lbw b Fisher 8published at 11:23 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 11-6 v Yorks

Leicestershire's last remaining hope was India's Ajinkya Rahane.

But he's been beaten on the inside edge by the latest bit of sharp seam movement and is pinned on the front pad.

    Second wicket for Matt Fisher.

    This is ridiculous.

  8. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 53-1 v Gloucs

A heart in mouth moment for Max Holden, who is forward to Tom Price, edging the ball just past a diving gully for four.

Not the most convincing way to bring up the 50 partnership with Mark Stoneman, but these are precious runs in tough conditions after the early loss of Sam Robson.

The landmark comes in 66 balls.

  9. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 28-2

Time to bed in for Glamorgan, and boy are they bedding in.

Ollie Robinson has bowled three straight maidens, with the last 28 balls seeing just two singles.

Crawling along now while the ball is zipping around should mean they can flourish once this Kookaburra ball softens up.

No English style for the Welsh!

  10. wicket

WICKET: Kimber lbw b Coad 0published at 11:20 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 11-5 v Yorks

I think Louis Kimber has been watching England. Yesterday at least.

Either that or he decided within five balls that run scoring is impossible on this green mamba wicket.

He has a huge leg side swipe at a length ball from Ben Coad, misses, and is plumb lbw.

  11. wicket

WICKET Procter LBW b Reece 12published at 11:18 British Summer Time 9 September

    Northants 25-2 v Derbys

Luis Reece replaces Moore in the attack and the left armer strikes in his first over!

Cutting in off the seam and striking the pad in front of middle.

    Easy decision for the umpire.

Time for James Sales to have a bat.

  12. Early lunch at Riversidepublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 9 September

    Durham v Lancs

The rain shows no sign of abating here in the north-east and the umpires have decided to take lunch at 1200 BST.

A vital game for both teams, Lancashire especially so as far as Division One status is concerned, is on fold for a couple of hours at least.

  13. wicket

WICKET: Lammonby c Sibley b Clark 21published at 11:17 British Summer Time 9 September

    Somerset 33-2 v Surrey

Three boundaries in three balls for Tom Lammonby off Kemar Roach.

He flicked a low full-toss through square leg for four.

A delivery too straight was touched to fine leg.

And then a drive outside off sent an edge flying past third slip - but not certain it would have carried had a fourth catcher been in place.

But now he's fallen to Jordan Clark's first ball of the day!

Clark round the wicket squares Lammonby up and a flying edge is well caught by Dom Sibley above his head at second slip.

  14. Stoneman puts his foot downpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 41-1 v Gloucs

Middlesex continue to keep the pressure on promotion rivals Yorkshire, who are currently making short work of the Leicestershire top order, with four successive boundaries off the bowling of Singh-Dale.

Three of them are driven imperiously through wide mid off and the other is nudged just wide of gully.

That wicket off the first ball of the game feels like a distant memory.

Simon Mahon: Surrey signing Shakib Al Hasan to play against Somerset has the energy of a Sunday 3rd XI bringing in a player from the first team when going for promotion in club cricket.

  16. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 9 September

    Northants 25-1 v Derbys

Harry Moore is driven through mid off by Luke Procter for only the second four of the morning as the bowler is a tad too full and wide.

Moore loses his radar again with a leg side ball that disappears fine for four leg byes.

his last ball is too full and driven to long off for four more.

  17. wicket

WICKET: Ahmed c Lyth b Coad 0published at 11:09 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 3-4 v Yorks

Adam Lyth catches Rehan Ahmed at slip during Day 1 of the Vitality County Championship Two match between Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Yorkshire County Cricket ClubImage source, Rex Features

    Oh goodness another Leicestershire wicket!

Ben Coad strikes for a third time.

A length ball around off stump, a tentative prod from Rehan Ahmed without moving his feet, and a healthy edge well caught again by Adam Lyth at second slip.

Nine overs. Three runs. Four wickets.

  18. No news from Chelmsfordpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 9 September

Essex v Notts - start delayed

Looks more like a November evening than a September morning at Chelmsford.

No news of a start time in a big game at both ends of Division One.

The covers are on as rain delays the start of play during Essex CCC vs Nottinghamshire CCCImage source, Rex Features
  19. Postpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 26-2

Jaydev Unadkat has already picked up Asa Tribe to the bat pad catch.

And the Indian certainly sees that method of wicket as a potentially productive one against Glamorgan's right-handed batters, with TWO short legs in place when he's bowling at Kiran Carlson.

To the left-handed Colin Ingram, there is only one under the helmet, and he is miles away from doing anything about a controlled square drive to the boundary.

Shakib Al Hasan celebrates a Test hundred for BangladeshImage source, Getty Images

With Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith, Dan Lawrence, Gus Atkinson. Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Reece Topley and Sam Curran all away with various England squads, Surrey have brought in Shakib Al Hasan for the title charge.

They are, of course, not the only ones to recruit a fresh face for this round, but being able to bring in Bangladesh's greatest Test cricketer may have a few people muttering and grumbling.

So, does county cricket need a transfer window like football?
