Summary

  1. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 25-1 v Gloucs

This is very much a hands in pockets day between deliveries in the field here at a grey, chilly Lord's.

Max Holden is beaten again outside off stump by Singh-Dale.

Archie Bailey is a bit wayward at times but continues to show promise with a superb leg cutter that goes up the slope, fizzing straight across Mark Stoneman on the way to keeper James Bracey.

The next ball however is a full toss and pushed to wide mid off for two.

A single off the third ball and Holden clips to fine leg for four. Four more guided through gully.

  2. wicket

WICKET: Holland b Coad 0published at 11:02 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 3-3 v Yorks

    A third wicket for Yorkshire!

Good length from Ben Coad, Ian Holland plays forward but is totally done by a ball that jags back sharply and hits the top of leg stump.

This could get ugly for Leicestershire - and indeed the game.

Into the eighth over and only three runs scored.

  3. Postpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 9 September

    Somerset 13-1 v Surrey

The sun has appeared at Taunton and both batsmen have eased into driven fours of Kemar Roach.

First the left-hander Tom Lammonby takes him through cover-point.

And then Archie Vaughan, the right-hander out at number three, presses another overpitched delivery through cover.

  4. wicket

WICKET: Hill c Lyth b Fisher 3published at 10:57 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 3-2 v Yorks

    Yorkshire have a second!

Matt Fisher is a full of length around off stump, Lewis Hill props forward is a perfectly solid forward defence.

But some nip away finds his outside edge and the catch is taken at second slip.

Batting looks a precarious occupation at Grace Road.

  5. Near miss for Archie Baileypublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 10-1 v Gloucs

This is good bowling from Tom Price, round the wicket and drawing Max Holden into repeated plays and misses.

Mark Stoneman shoulders arms and leaves Ajeet Singh-Dale well outside off.

Archie Bailey is given his first bowl in Championship cricket and Holden edges just short of Ben Charlesworth at slip.

Holden gets away with three driven through mid off.

Stoneman plays and misses outside off. Encouraging start for Bailey.

  6. wicket

WICKET Northeast b Unadkat 9published at 10:53 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 19-2

    Offffttt that is comprehensively bowled!

The left arm of Jaydev Unadkat brings one back and sends Sam Northeast's middle stump for a backward tumble.

A rare away day failure for Northeast (see 10:46 post) and a second of the morning for Unadkat.

  7. wicket

    WICKET Libby c Burgess b Hannon-Dalby 13published at 10:52 British Summer Time 9 September

    Worcestershire 19-1 v Warwickshire

    Ged Scott
BBC Sport at Visit Worcestershire New Road

Worcestershire have been put into bat at New Road by neighbours Warwickshire with an attack averaging six foot four and a half - and an average age of 36 and a half.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby, 33 and 6 ft 8 in, from the New Road End, and Chris Rushworth, 38 and 6 ft in, from the Diglis End.

And it's first strike for the Bears as OHD has Jake Libby caught behind.

The Pears have left out a batsman, Rob Jones - and brought in young Shropshire fast bowler Jack Home for his first-class debut

The Bears have made one change. England one-day international Danny Briggs in for Jacob Bethell, who is in the T20 squad.

Weather: Clear and relatively sunny, but starting to cloud over a little. Today is supposedly the best forecast day of the week.

  8. Postpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 9 September

    Northants 7-1 v Derbys

This is a tough watch for Northants, who have barely got into second gear since the early loss of Prithvi Shaw.

Gus Miller is struck on the pad by Zak Chappell but the ball is too leg side for the LBW.

The next ball is again leg side and clipped away for two.

Seven runs scored off five overs.

  9. rain stops play

Update from Canterburypublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 9 September

Kent v Hampshire - delayed start

The umpires have inspected the outfield at Canterbury and decided that no play will be possible before lunch.

That lunch will, however, be brought forward to 12:00 BST.

  10. Toss at 10:50 BST at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 9 September

    Durham v Lancashire

Hopefully, it won't be too long before play gets under way in the Division One relegation tussle at Chester-le-Street.

The drizzle has departed and the toss is set for 10:50 BST - with umpires hopeful of play beginning at 11:15.

  11. Northeast's 'extraordinary' 2024 recordpublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 14-1

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Sam Northeast's away record is brilliant, his home record is awful.

In away Championship innings this season he has scored 872 runs for eight times out. He has also been out eight times in Cardiff but has only managed 43 runs!

So he averages five and a bit at home and 100-odd away. It is extraordinary.

  12. Postpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 7-1 v Gloucs

Mark Stoneman tries to work Tom Price into the leg side but is unable to get the ball away.

Max Holden scrambles a leg bye off Singh-Dale and Stoneman drives gloriously past a diving cover for four.

Stoneman plays just inside the line off the last ball to see out the over.

It's a very grey day and the floodlights are likely to be on for the duration.

  13. Start delayed in three gamespublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 9 September

Rain at Chester-le-Street and Canterbury has meant tosses haven't occurred at either ground.

Looks like play isn't too far away at Durham and there's also good news for Kent and Hampshire supporters with the umpires taking a look at conditions.

There will also be a delayed start at Chelmsford, where Nottinghamshire won the toss and stuck Essex in before the clouds burst.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Patel c Bean b Coad 0published at 10:38 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 0-1 v Yorks

My days this wicket at Grace Road looks to have some live grass on it!

And Yorkshire strike fifth ball of the game.

Ben Coad is in the channel just outside off, Rishi Patel pushes out too firmly and edges low into the gully.

  15. wicket

WICKET Shaw c Donald b Chappell 4published at 10:38 British Summer Time 9 September

    Northants 4-1 v Derbys

The Northants bogeyman Zak Chappell strikes with the second ball of the match.

Prithvi Shaw had just eased his first ball through cover off the back foot for four but he's stuck on the crease here with an angled bat, nicking off to Aneurin Donald in the slips.

Northants captain Luke Procter is in next.

  16. wicket

WICKET Tribe c Hughes b Unadkat 0published at 10:36 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex v Glamorgan 4-1

aydev Unadkat of Sussex (centre) celebrates with team mates after dismissing Asa Tribe of Glamorgan during the Vitality County Championship Division 2 match between Sussex and GlamorganImage source, Getty Images

Asa Tribe isn't a natural opener and looks particularly uncomfortable against Jaydev Unadkat.

The Indian bowls straight and thigh-length to Tribe, who flicks straight to overseas Daniel Hughes under the helmet at short leg.

A great start for the promotion-chasing Sussex.

    First ball of the match!

That cut back sharply down the slope and beat the forward block.

Max Holden is in earlier than he might have expected.

  19. Play begins at Lord'spublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 0-0 v Gloucs

You can hear the wind blowing on the BBC microphone as Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman make their way to the middle to open the batting.

Ajeet Singh Dale will bowl to Robson.

  20. wicket

WICKET: Goldsworthy b Roach 0published at 10:32 British Summer Time 9 September

    Somerset 0-1 v Surrey

Kemar Roach is back after a month out injured.

And he strikes second ball of the match!

A big inswinger that beats the outside edge of Lewis Goldsworthy and takes out off stump.

    What a start for Surrey.
